Edith d'Inglaterra (910, Reinu de Wessex – 26 de xineru de 946, Magdeburgu), tamién escrita Eadgyth, Ædgyth o Ēadgȳð (en inglés antiguu), o Edith, Edgith, Edgitha (n'alemán), foi la fía d'Eduardo'l Viejo (rei d'Inglaterra) y d'Elfleda de Wessex; y la primer esposa d'Otón I, emperador del Sacru Imperiu (23 de payares del 912 - 7 de mayu del 973).

Vida

Los sos güelos paternos fueron Alfredo'l Grande (rei de Wessex) y la so esposa Ethelswitha.

Col fin de sellar una alianza ente dos reinos saxones, el so mediohermanu, el rei Athelstán d'Inglaterra (c. 895 – 27 d'ochobre del 939), unvió a dos de les sos hermanes a Alemaña, diciéndo-y al duque de Saxonia (más tarde Otón I, emperador del Sacru Imperiu) qu'escoyera la que más-y prestara. Otto escoyó a Edith y casóse con ella nel 929.

La hermana restante, Algiva o Adiva, tuvo casada con un rei cerca de los montes Xúpiter» (los Alpes). La identidá precisa d'esta hermana ye oxetu d'alderique. Pudo ser Edgiva de Wessex, quien se casó col rei Carlos III de Francia, o otra persona desconocida pa la hestoria.

Al igual que'l so hermanu Athelstan, Edith dedicar al cultu de san Osvaldo de Northumbria y —dempués del so matrimoniu col emperador— foi un elementu clave na introducción d'esta devoción n'Alemaña. La so duradera influencia puede causar que ciertos monesterios ya ilesies de Saxonia dedicar a esti santu.[4]

Tumba

La so tumba atópase na Catedral de Magdeburgu. En 2008, mientres los trabayos d'arqueoloxía nel edificiu, atopóse un ataúd de plomu dientro d'un sarcófagu de piedra que tenía grabáu'l so nome. Una inscripción dicía que yera'l cuerpu de Edgyth, que fuera reenterrado en 1510.

Los restos esaminar en 2009, y en 2010 llevar a Bristol (Inglaterra), pa más pruebes. Científicos de la Universidá de Bristol comprobaron, por aciu pruebes sobre l'esmalte dental per mediu del tecneciu-99m (un isótopu del tecneciu), que nació y crióse en Wessex y Mercia, tal como suxirió la hestoria. Un voceru de la universidá afirmó que los güesos constituyíen los restos humanos sobrevivientes más antiguos de la Familia Real Británica.[5]
