El Centru d'Analís y Procesamientu Infrarroxu (IPAC) ye'l Centru de Ciencies de la NASA responsable del procesamientu de datos, analises y archivamiento d'imáxenes astronómiques infrarroxes y misiones d'astrofísica. Ta asitiáu nel campus del Institutu Teunolóxicu de California.

Historia

IPAC foi creáu en 1986 pa brindar sofitu al Infrared Astronomical Satellite (ROXURES). La misión ROXURES realizó un estudiu imparcial y sensible del 96% el cielu a llonxitúes d'onda de 12, 25, 60 y 100µm con resoluciones d'ente 0,5 y 2 minutos d'arcu en 1983. Dempués que la misión terminó, creóse'l Infrared Science Archive (IRSA).

Más tarde, la NASA designa a IPAC como'l centru de sofitu d'EE.XX. pal Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) européu, que terminó les operaciones en 1998. Nesi mesmu tiempu, IPAC tamién foi designáu como'l centru científicu del Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) (camudó'l nome a Telescopiu Espacial Spitzer dempués del so llanzamientu).

IPAC tamién asumió un papel principal en delles otres misiones espaciales infrarroxes, incluyíu'l Wide-field Infrared Explorer (WIRE) y el Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX). IPAC tamién sofitó misiones en tierra cola asunción de responsabilidaes nel proyeutu Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS), un estudiu del infrarroxu cercanu de tol cielu realizaes polos observatorios ximielgos nos hemisferios norte y sur.

En 1999, IPAC formó un centru de ciencies de interferometría, orixinalmente llamáu Michelson Science Center (MSC) pol pioneru en interferometría Albert A. Michelson. Apocayá camudó'l nome a NASA Exoplanet Science Institute (NExScI).

Güei, IPAC inclúi'l Spitzer Science Center, el NASA Exoplanet Science Institute, el NASA Herschel Science Center, y coopera con más d'una docena de misiones científiques distintes.
