Hello all! I just found out about this WikiProject and came over here to see about contributing. I already submitted an article I wrote about a woman for GA review this month (and also submitted it for DYK) so I guess I was already kinda contributing without realizing, LOL. But anyway, I'm here because I spent a pretty good chunk of time last night improving the article for photographer Sarah Bahbah. (It came up as a suggestion for editing on my homepage, I worked on it until I felt the flag templates on it didn't apply anymore and removed them.) I don't think the article is really at GA level yet, and in particular I think a lot more could be added to the Career section, but I had already stayed up way later than I meant to working on it and I needed to go to bed hahaha. But yeah, just bringing it to the attention of the folks here in case anyone wants to pick up where I left off and expand the article more. Hi @Governor Sheng! The Women in Green project scope covers all articles about women and women's works (e.g., books, films or artwork by women). We include candidates for GA under that scope as well, yes -- we're focused on the work of article improvement (every little bit helps), and once an article about women or women's works has been improved and formally nominated for GA status, the nominator is welcome to list the article under Goal #1 of our annual group goals page. @Governor Sheng: if it's not connected to a specific event, you can tag it by year by adding a "date=2024" parameter to our project talk page tag. However, most Women in Green editors wait until the article has been nominated for GA before tagging it this way (if the review is ultimately unsuccessful, you can still leave the Women in Green tag on -- it just helps us track which articles within our scope have gone through the GA nomination process). The core contest is back and ... since the 2021 reboot we've not improved a single biography of a woman during the contest and I was hoping somebody here would be willing to break the streak.

The Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—runs from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. There is £300 of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". Signups are open now. Hey all, hope everyone's had a good start to their new year. I've been thinking lately about getting started with the coordination for our next edit-a-thon. Per our discussions some time last year, I figured it would be a good idea to do a "Back in time" theme this year, focusing on women throughout history in order to address our tendency towards recentism. Like the Around the World edit-a-thon, when we had a map showing pins in each country where we nominated or reviewed articles about women and women's works, I was thinking we could have a timeline template set up that shows our progress on articles throughout history.

Provisionally setting the date for June 2024, would anyone else here be interested in joining in and/or helping out with this? This is a good idea. I wonder if there's a way to help people find articles for this. I imagine it's easier to find articles about women from a specific country than from a specific century. There's Category:Women by century to help find women from a particular century. Category:Ancient women, Category:Medieval women and Category:Renaissance women may also be of use. Really looking forward to this. As an aside, something I think I've mentioned before: the Hot 100 seems rather biased towards the modern/the American/the cultural. We have a mediocre article on pioneering archaeologist Katherine Routledge on enwiki, but fr:Katherine Routledge is GA- if not FA-level. If there is anyone who is interested in expanding it by translating from French, it could be an easy win for WiG. Hi everyone! If like me, you watched the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics yesterday, you might have felt a bit moved by the section on Sororité, which highlighted the role of women in French society and prominent women in French history. To draw attention to the gender imbalance of statues in the city, 10 women were honoured with gold statues during the procession:

• Christine de Pizan (1364–1430), a Medieval protofeminist writer;
• Jeanne Baret (1740–1807), the first woman to circumnavigate the globe;
• Olympe de Gouges (1748–1793), the author of the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen;
• Louise Michel (1830–1905), Communard and leader of the French anarchist movement;
• Alice Guy-Blaché (1873–1968), the first woman filmmaker;
• Alice Milliat (1884–1957), a pioneer of women's sports;
• Paulette Nardal (1896–1985), a founder of the Négritude literary genre;
• Simone de Beauvoir (1908–1986), pioneer of feminist existentialism;
• Gisèle Halimi (1927–2020), a lawyer and advocate for women's rights to abortion;
• Simone Veil (1927–2017), Minister of Health that promulgated the legalisation of abortion.

Of these ten, only Milliat's article is currently GA-rated, so I thought I'd raise them here as targets for improvement over the course of this year's Olympiad. I wouldn't say I'm a Christine specialist, but I've written professionally on Christine and am familiar with the historiography. I think it’s almost there. I wish the article had more modern scholarship, but I really think the article needs more of her other works in the “Works” section; several more than the big two have full articles, but only Book and Treasure are mentioned on her page. Hello, I would like some advice about the copyvio tool. I have been updating this article Australian women in World War I, with the intention of getting it to GA status. There is still a bit more to fix up, so I am not ready to submit it yet.

I just put it through the Copyvio tool, just to check if I have inadvertently copied something too closely, and it highlighted a few websites as quite similar. One of which is over 54% similar. They are pages that I have definitely used as references. But the things that it highlights as similar are primarily titles of things, such as "Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS)" and "in the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS)", or quotes which I have referenced. I don't think these are things that I would think of as being a plagiarism. But I want to check, do you think there are things I need to change? These tools only check similarity, so it's quite common for titles and direct quotes to contribute to the percentage. So long as the quotes are properly attributed in-text, it shouldn't be an issue. Though, if you're worried about having inadvertently copied too closely, make sure you go down the list further than just those 54% similar ones. I stopped checking at like 20% or so when I was helping someone else prep an article for GAN before, and the reviewer found a sentence that had been almost completely lifted that I'd missed because it was only at 14% or something. The ones at 54% are fine. I realise this discussion is stale, but for future reference... A while back I wrote an essay on the mistakes people make using our copyvio detection tools, which includes a section on precisely this issue. Reviewers do sometimes say "Earwig gave a [percentage] chance of this being copyvio, therefore it fails criterion 2d" but they shouldn't and if you can explain why it's not problematic despite Earwig flagging the article they should accept that. Comparing the "by country" and "by century" themes, my takeaway is that we want a theme where there's probably something for your interests across the board. If you're interested in writing about actresses, just about any country will have a subject to write about, but you're only going to be able to go back two or three centuries. "One per country" is probably my favorite theme, but here's some brainstorming: one for each letter, as many different professions or claims to notability as possible, women that have won different awards (Nobel prizes, Olympic medals, etc), born in each month of the year or day of the month, or as many different native languages as possible. Some of these would be harder to search for with categories, but there are options. I just went through all of the articles marked as nominated but not yet reviewed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Green/Goal Tracking/2024 because I noticed a couple which I knew had since become GAs, and I noticed that Tamara Bunke is no longer a GA nominee not because it has been reviewed but because it was procedurally removed due to the nominator being blocked. Do we have an agreed way of dealing with this? The options I see are either to mark it as a failed nominee, or to simply remove it from the list. I'm inclined towards the former (it was nominated in good faith, and it did fail to become a good article, even if not through precisely the usual route) but it's a sufficiently unusual situation I thought I'd ask here first...
