This month, after a discussion, our project was renamed from WP:FILMS to simply WP:FILM. As our project covers more than just films in its scope, simplifying our name better represents our project's focus. The name change required hundreds of page moves for the name transition. Special thanks go to the editors that helped in this tedious task, including Big Bird, Fuhghettaboutit, Kollision, MSGJ, PC78, PeterSymonds, and anyone else who assisted.
Throughout the history of our project, our members have worked hard to improve articles to higher classes, including GA and FAs. A breakdown of our project's Spotlight articles can be seen here, which list the films' basic genre, Rotten Tomatoes rating, and box office gross (when available). The tables and charts illustrate what types of film articles our members have worked on, and may indicate what type of articles we should branch into to better represent all years, countries, genres, and other attributes. The tables may also be helpful for finding examples of articles that you may want to improve.
To encourage the use of sourcing statements and expanding articles, a new template has been created for adding to article talk pages. If you stumble across a newspaper or journal article, book, television show, or other potential source for an article and do not have time to add it, you can list it on the talk page in a "references to use" section or subpage. The template can then be included at the top of the page to direct editors to the potential sources that can be used for improving the article.
Metacritic recently changed the urls for its links. This change may cause some of the current links in articles to not work properly. If you notice any articles that have the older urls, please correct them to ensure readers are redirected correctly.
Based on views, the top five most popular articles from our project this month were: The Social Network, Paranormal Activity, Paranormal Activity 2, Internet Movie Database, and Saw 3D. For a list of our project's top 1,000 most popular articles, see here. Consider helping to improve one of these articles that is seen by thousands to millions of people each month.
Our project currently has over 76,700 film-related articles, with over three hundred unassessed articles, thanks to the assessment department! Remember to always add the {{Film|class=}} template to a film article's talk page so the project can get a better idea of what work still needs to be done. If you believe that an article should be assessed at a certain class, feel free to follow the assessment scale and assess the article yourself (it's not too difficult to determine the basic classes such as stubs, categories, or lists). Below is a table showing a breakdown of our articles by class.
Spotlight Update: Multiple films and film-related articles have reached GA status in October 2010.
Remember that any editor can give the WikiProject Film Award to another WP:Films member. If you do present this award, please make mention of it here or tell one of the newsletter editors who will then include it in the next issue.
Please add your name to the member list if you have not already.
... that upon the release of the 1934 Pre-Code film Hitler's Reign of Terror, Film Daily scoffed at the film's prediction that Hitler's Germany was a future threat to world peace?
If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject Film. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!
Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 11 – November 2010). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Staxringold (submissions) and ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.
Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.
The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! Ten years back when I was a Permanent resident in khunti. It was one of the most peaceful places to live. Last year I went to khunti during my summer vacations, the bus was stopped in between and I had to walk back to my home with my Luggage. The reason behind this was the arrest of a criminal. Our khunti police after putting lot of effort arrested this wanted criminal but people came protesting against that as if he was the Robin Hood. All the streets were blocked and no one was allowed to move. The protestors were protesting because that criminal was getting married in 10 days. Where are we heading towards? Do we have any rights to blame the administration for the problem we are facing? Don’t we have any responsibility towards our next generation? What will we answer our next generation when they ask us the big question that who has to be blamed for this? Cribbing about the administration is very easy all of us has got a basic right to do that, but only when we perform our duty.

English WikiProject News
After a missed issue, the WP:IND newsletter is back on track to being a regular bimonthly feature. The Indian WikiProject has seen plenty of online and off-line action, both in English as well as other Indian languages, and we now have a bigger, better format that intends to feature content and news from the English as well as other Indian language Wikipedias.
Reaching out to Indians has been the theme of the Indian Wikiproject over the past couple of months, aiming to involve a greater number of Indians in editing both the English and Indian language Wikipedias. To this end, efforts to set up the Indian chapter of Wikimedia have moved into their final stages, and registration of the society is currently pending. An effort is underway to push for "WikiMarathons" at meetups, where attendees will be encouraged to edit the English and/or Indian language Wikipedias. This is intended to popularise Wikipedia editing among the general public. In addition, a bot to post DYK's from the Indian Wikiproject to Twitter was created and launched by User:Logicwiki.
What's New?
Regrettably, the number of Featured Articles has dropped from 63 in June to 58 at the end of October 2010. Several FAs came up for review and were delisted, while Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India was saved. Meanwhile, Chalukya Dynasty appeared on the main page on July 9, 2010. Hearteningly, the number of Good Articles increased from 130 to 136 during the same period, while the number of Featured Lists remained constant at 16.
The date change vandal mentioned briefly in the previous issue made a reappearance when the range block on his IP range expired in September. Consequently the block was extended till September 2011.
In October there was a heated discussion in the India project noticeboard regarding the copyright status of the Indian party symbols. The discussion was triggered by the deletion of Wiki San Roze's party symbol images by Hammersoft as copyright violations. No resolution was reached, partly because of our inability to explain to Hammersoft how election symbols in India differ from party logos. Comments are requested from anyone with a background in Indian copyright law to clarify this issue.
The Bengali Wikisource, which contains the literary works of many prominent writers of Bengali language including Rabindranath Tagore, has crossed the 5,000 pages milestone. According to List of Wikisource page, Bengali Wikisource is now at rank 21 among 56 Wikisource based on number of content pages.
The uploading of Tamil technical words donated by Tamil Virtual University to the Tamil Wiktionary was completed in October. The words were donated by the Government of Tamil Nadu due to lobbying efforts by Tamil Wikipedians during the runup to the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 (WCTC) in June. Nearly 70,000 words were uploaded increasing the word count in Tamil Wiktionary from 1,20,000+ to 1,90,000+. This has brought Tamil to the 10th place (from 17) in the list of largest wiktionaries and has earned it a place in the Wiktionary front page logo. In addition, Tamil Wikipedians set up a stall at the WCTC and introduced Tamil Wiki projects to people from all walks of life.
The Hindi Wikipedia and its sister wiki projects migrated to the new vector interface on September 1, 2010. In addition, Hindi is the first (and so far the only) Indian language to be incorporated into the WikiBhasha translation and contribution toolkit developed by Microsoft Research.
Mumbai and Delhi held their first meetups in September, where Wikimedia Board members Barry Newstead and Bishakha Datta met up with Wikipedians and other interested members of the public in these cities. A month later, Hyderabad also held its first meetup.
Wikipedians in Bangalore continued their tradition of meeting up regularly at the Centre for Internet and Society, with the nineteenth meetup in September featuring Barry and Bishaka as attendees, and marking the release of the community newsletter. Along with Delhi and Mumbai, Bangalore is reported to be one of the three cities in contention for the Indian office of the Wikipedia Foundation.
The first Wikimarathon, where Wikipedians and members of the public were encouraged to contribute to Wikimedia projects onsite, was held simultaneously at the meetups in Bangalore and Chennai on November 14, 2010. Wikipedians in Delhi also held a meetup the same day.
The Malayalam Wikipedia held several academies in different parts of Kerala over the past few months.
This interesting discussion on the quality of editing in India-related articles has been underway for on the noticeboard a few days. Feel free to join in and express your opinion.

Hi there! I thought you might be interested in the December 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. We're currently recruiting help to clear a massive backlog (22,000+ articles), and we need your help! Participants in the drive will receive barnstars for their contributions! If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. Thanks!
