I'd like to start sketching out the Education Program Working Group task work related to enlisting support from Wikiprojects, and I'm glad we'll be collaborating on that. Would you be happy to do this on wiki, perhaps in one of our user spaces? Are you aware of any others who want to help us? --Jgmikulay (talk) 14:40, 26 July 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-07-26T14:40:00.000Z","author":"Jgmikulay","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Jgmikulay-2012-07-26T14:40:00.000Z-Taskmastering","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-07-26T17:02:00.000Z-Jgmikulay-2012-07-26T14:40:00.000Z"]}}-->

Hey Jenny, good to hear from you. I'm going to set up a draft page in my userspace and start collating data on projects. Maybe a table or such. You comfortable working with wiki tables? They look a bit gnarly in the edit window, but they're useful and if you look at my edits you can see how I add to the fields. I'll link it for you when i've got it up. What do you think are good metrics for measuring how active/influential a project is? I was thinking -
  1. number of posts to project talk pages in last 6 mo.
  2. number of active members (this only works for projects with a sign-up list/category listing)
  3. ?
As for other members interested, I don't remember anyone else mentioning interest during the speed-session in DC. We're such sharp tacks that we could probably get this done on our own. Some of the other task forces seem much more onerous. I'm comfortable with tables, and I like the process you propose. For indicators of activity/influence, I was also thinking about:

  1. projects to which past EP classes or students have contributed
  2. projects that correspond directly to academic disciplines and specializations from which EP draws participation

I'm also curious about whether the community has done any analysis of projects in the past--are you aware of any inquiry or results upon which we could build? --Jgmikulay (talk) 17:58, 26 July 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-07-26T17:58:00.000Z","author":"Jgmikulay","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Jgmikulay-2012-07-26T17:58:00.000Z-Taskmastering","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-07-26T19:24:00.000Z-Jgmikulay-2012-07-26T17:58:00.000Z"]}}-->

I'm looking into past analyses, there appears to be a Council that oversees the wpjs (my new shorthand), we should drop them a line. Here's a start to our task force page:

Look at you, making stuff happen! Thank you. I am watching this page and the new one for our task force, and I hope to be adding my own contributions soon. --Jgmikulay (talk) 20:30, 26 July 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-07-26T20:30:00.000Z","author":"Jgmikulay","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Jgmikulay-2012-07-26T20:30:00.000Z-Taskmastering","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-07-26T21:03:00.000Z-Jgmikulay-2012-07-26T20:30:00.000Z"]}}-->

Minor change to analysis table - rather than number of posts to talk page, we'll look at the number of "watchers". We can find this with one click - go to the project talk page, go to the "history" tab, and there will be a link to "Number of watchers". Give a good indication of how many people might check out a message posted there. I'm very sorry. I stopped reading the article, and just looked for your response here or on the GA1 page. When they're weren't any, I jumped to the conclusion that the changes hadn't been by the 26th as stated. My fault. Why don't you renominate it and let me know on my talk page? I can't undo the fail, but I can add a few more comments (mainly about the quotes and the recent data being 10 years old) and put it on hold until the Mary Vaux image is cleared. It don't think the request for the IPA is part of the GA criteria. Good stuff, Mathew. I'm going to wait a week or so to see if we can get Mary into the public domain. If you want to leave me any more specific notes, I can try to get them cleared up before re-nominating. The IPA thing is a pain, you really have to be a competent linguist to even set it up! The National Atlas of Canada Koppen is small-scale and pertains to 1921-1950, before climate change. The actual figures for the last few decades tell a different story-

7.7(mean annual temp. In *c)x20+140=154+140=294 mm steppe cutoff. Kelowna receives 380.5 mm – it is a humid climate. Jan. mean temp -3.8= D climate Hottest month (July)= 19.1 = Dfb

I cannot find any set of figures that suggests Kelowna is BSk.24.108.61.172 (talk) 06:18, 6 October 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-10-06T06:18:00.000Z","author":"24.108.61.172","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-24.108.61.172-2012-10-06T06:18:00.000Z-Kelowna_Climate_Dfb","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-10-06T06:22:00.000Z-24.108.61.172-2012-10-06T06:18:00.000Z"]}}-->

Yeah, I've been searching the web for anything more recent, but haven't found anything reliable. Do you have a source for Dfb, or just the climate charts? This switches back and forth constantly - we need a good ref for Dfb if that's that current classification. Otherwise someone will just switch it back. Well, that's sort of original research, and frowned upon. There must be some sort of reliable Koppen database. But I agree that the precip seems to be above the Bsk cutoff. The Interior (Talk)

These are two sources that determine the precipitation threshold and the koppen climate classification.

Based on these sources, the data taken at Kelowna Airport would qualify as a humid continental climate as 7.7(mean annual temp. In *c)x20+140=154+140=294 mm steppe cutoff. (as 30-70% of the precipitation occurs from April to September) Kelowna receives 380.5 mm – it is a humid climate. Jan. mean temp -3.8= D climate Hottest month (July)= 19.1 = Dfb (as precipitation is evenly spread throughout the year)Ssbbplayer (talk) 20:07, 6 October 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-10-06T20:07:00.000Z","author":"Ssbbplayer","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ssbbplayer-2012-10-06T20:07:00.000Z-Kelowna_Climate_Dfb","replies":[]}}-->

Hello The Interior, Kyle isn't in class today, so our group has gone over the topics that we thought were interesting, located in Kyle's Sandbox. The bolded lines are the ones we were discussing on doing articles over. We are very interested in The Dark Side of Chocolate and have found a lot of information on the topic. Do you think this would be a viable topic to do an article over? Hey The Interior! Our group has somewhat figured out what we'd like to research a bit. Hopefully it's a good topic. We think it'd be cool to research something that Ball State students really love and actually use everyday oddly enough. Here's what we have and some links: "Naked Lady" in Bracken Library. Here's an idea for a DYK from the article on Forest Idyll: "The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden in Winter Park, Florida also contains a copy of the 1924 version and another, one-of-a-kind version completed in 1964, unique because it bears the face of Polasek’s second wife, Emily, rather than the original face that was created for the sculpture." Let's do it. We'll have to shorten the "hook" a bit, needs to be under 200 characters. I'll nominate when I take a break from schoolwork later on today. Created the nomination here: Template:Did you know nominations/Forest Idyl. As the reviewer may ask for some changes, it would be good if the team members could "watchlist" this page. Yes, the "hook" sounds fine. Thanks for the nomination! I've alerted the group to watch the page. I'm not fully familiar with the DYK process--may I act as a reviewer? I suggested the possibility but I'm not the official nominator. It's best to have someone uninvolved do the review, to avoid any accusations of shenanigans. We only need a single reviewer to approve it, but I could see them requesting a bit more work - i.e. the lead section needs a copyedit (kind of confusing), and it needs a few more wikilinks. I can tinker at it, but I'm very busy with term projects this weekend/next week. I also need to review another nomination, due to the "quid pro quo" requirement for more experienced DYK nominators. (always a shortage of reviewers over there, hence the QPQ thing). I understand that the students are moving on, but maybe you could help with a copyedit? For the love of the Wiki, hmm?  ;) Anyways, students did a great job this term, and let me know if you need more ambassador help in the future. Did a QPQ review, so it's ready for review now. Might happen soon, as Doug Coldwell nominated 30 articles (!) in a bunch, and did thirty reviews, so ours is closer to the top of the unreviewed queue. Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). A big thank you for trimming the BC section of the above article. With BC's list now much more manageable, I may motivate myself to find reliable references for the remaining BC entries. Yes, let's get that list cleaned up a bit. 'Berta's looking good! Those Squamish names were great. BC is nearly done. I'm having difficulty with "Sun City" for Kelowna. There are numerous businesses there named "Sun City X", but I've not yet found a reliable source that specifically refers to the city as the "Sun City". Hi. I had a look. The informal pronunciation as it is transcribed looked very unlikely in terms of the "ah"—too strong a vowel for unstressed syllables in English. So I listened to a couple of YouTube videos from Canada about the river/glacier. As I suspected, the "ah" is actually schwa (normally represented informally as "uh"). The IPA transcription would be:

ɪl ə ˈsɪl ə wɛt

This coincides with the pronunciation in the Columbia Enclyclopedia [1]. Note that their phonetic transcription differs slightly from the IPA:

They use ĕ instead of ɛ and ĭ instead of ɪ

But they represent the same sounds. (Another slight difference is that the CE puts the stress mark following the stressed syllable instead of preceding it as in the IPA.) See the charts here. Hope that helps. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 08:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-10-18T08:59:00.000Z","author":"Voceditenore","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Voceditenore-2012-10-18T08:59:00.000Z-Illecillewaet_Glacier_and_the_IPA","replies":["c-Voceditenore-2012-10-18T11:30:00.000Z-Voceditenore-2012-10-18T08:59:00.000Z"]}}-->

PS I separated the syllables in the IPA transcription above for ease of reading, but normally the transcription would be without the spaces. The CE also gives an alternative pronunciation for the final syllable which I also noticed on one of the videos: weɪt. Much thanks, Voced. When I visited last summer, the Parks girl definitely ended it with "wet", but she had a heavy Quebecoise accent, so who knows. I guess a complication with this one, and a lot of BC names derived from First Nations languages, is that the pronunciation is invariably a cock-up of what they used. I grew up near a place everyone called "Squilax", then I heard a Shuswap fellow say it. There was another syllable, some sort of voiced stop in the middle, and lots of back of the throat sounds. He tried to teach it to me, but it was hopeless. You participated earlier in Wikipedia talk:Did you know/GibraltarPediA Options, in which a proposed moratorium on Gibraltar-related DYKs was rejected and a set of options was agreed. There is currently a suggestion from editors who did not participate in that discussion that a moratorium should be imposed, overturning the earlier agreement. If you have any views on this, please feel free to comment at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Time-sensitive DYK nomination. Since you've been involved with articles on non-tropical cyclones in the past, I thought this might be a relevant area for you to give some input. At the moment, there is discussion going on about whether we should adopt The Weather Channel's new procedure of using names for winter storms that will have a significant impact. There are two discussions going on: an AFD of the article about the current winter storm season and a proposal to not use TWC's naming system as the title for an ongoing storm. Out of full disclosure, I've started both of those discussions, and while I have my own opinions, I wanted to get fresh opinions from editors who, like me, have a history of editing similar articles in the past. Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Hi, sorry it took so long to reply I'm just getting the hang of Wikipedia right now, ok your right so I'm not really all that qualified to edit the articles but I do believe my opinion/ analysis of the Current Population of Canadian Cities is very accurate, & I believe these article are actually outdated (yes even when it comes to the population breakdowns from which the year they where supposedly taken). Take the actual Stats Canada website for example! http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/91-214-x/2010000/t013-eng.htm The Population of Calgary's Metropolitan area is said to have been: 1,265,119 @ July 1st 2011, but why is the Wikipedia Article now saying that it was only? 1,214,839 how can that be true? & the article also says the City itself (not counting Metro) was 1,096,833. Furthermore look @ this website: http://www.surrealplaces.com/calgary-population.html it says the current population of Calgary is: 1,223,408 & counting (remember this is a Population Clock website Are u telling me people left Calgary between now & last year? Well yea that happens, but I live here a City like this only keeps growing it doesn't get smaller + I don't believe its absurd to think that Calgary's (Cities Population not counting Metro) could have increased by: 126,575 Between July of 2011 to November of this year, when u factor in immigrants people moving in from other provinces births (which is a natural increase in itself etc.) + How do u explain Facebook which says that: 1,367,236 people have been here (or checked in if u will) Alberta's Population Clock today as it stands is approaching 4 Million, & even though B.C. has a higher Population Alberta is actually the fastest growing Province in Western Canada, for a number of reasons I believe.. The Majority of imigrants flock to the big cities because there's work there among other things.. infact since July 1st of last year Canada's Population has almost increased by 1 Million already (that's Nationwide) The UN Says Canada is one of the fastest growing G8 Countries in the world, http://canindia.com/2012/10/and-the-fastest-growing-g8-country-is-canada/ & clearly thats evidence of it. Infact right now Canada's Current population is: 34,980,241 (& Counting) adding immigrants & births nationwide its a big number! Ok I love my City & I love my Country, I know out demography is low but people worldwide that look up some of our Cities (like Calgary for example) look for recent stats & encouraging/ imposing Stats, naturally every U.S. City tends to have a higher population than Canadian ones & I'm just trying to make ours look more impressive so I can attract immigrants. Please @ least allow me to update the proper 2011 Census date if anything, to the end of that Calender year. Now about the question u asked me earlier, where do u get ur Stats from & claiming I was vandalizing the article? On the contrary, I was merely improving it to suit my analysis/ predictions.. You see u tally up the population trends on that first website I gave u, annually divide it by the number tallied, & find the mean number (which is the typical annual growth for said City) if u want to be a bit more specific then u can even divide it further by 12 to discover the monthly net growth & further by 30 to discover the daily net growth (of if ur like me & u know that not every month has 30 days in it then u get even more technical). Finally u add said number to whatever the population was @ the time & u have a finished product. (Metropolitan Areas tend to grow faster than Cities population for a number of reasons as well & Economic Regions). I believe these estimates are fair & u look & the trends when a City is growing or a dwelling is shrinking.. Anyway enough said ttyl have a great Day & God Bless, thanks 4 ur time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by TosinMeb (talkcontribs) 01:58, 16 November 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-11-16T01:58:00.000Z","author":"TosinMeb","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-TosinMeb-2012-11-16T01:58:00.000Z-Edits","replies":["c-Hwy43-2012-11-16T03:18:00.000Z-TosinMeb-2012-11-16T01:58:00.000Z","c-Hwy43-2012-11-16T03:28:00.000Z-TosinMeb-2012-11-16T01:58:00.000Z"]}}-->

(talk page stalker) TosinMeb, please review the population section at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Canada-related articles (aka WP:CANSTYLE), which states, among other things:
A population clock is not a reliable source for population estimates and cannot be added to articles per WP:CANSTYLE. Hi TosinMeb. I appreciate your effort to make our pop. stats up-to-date, and I apologize for accusing you of vandalism. I see that you are using a method. But what Hwy43 says above is true, and it's how the wikipedia has to work. We need to use the published official census sources, even if they have a five-year lag. Otherwise, anybody could theorize about demographic/population trends, and we would have many competing numbers, and no way to discern the most reliable. The best way to improve the project is to stick to reliable sources when making edits. Things will go much smoother, and you won't have three editors breathing down your neck like this time. Good luck, and don't hesitate to post questions here, or at WP:CANTALK (the national project's noticeboard), if you are unsure about policies. Should we move it up to "commerce", then? The rest of the entries in "Food and drink" are food items/dishes/drinks, rather than brands, so it might be a better fit up above. It's funny, I was just thinking how "Tim Hortons", "Timmys", or "Tims" has supplanted the word "coffee" in many places in rural Canada. There's a word for that process (where the brand takes over the product), but I forget it right now. Yes, the whole xerox/band-aid thing. I can't remember the name either. There could be some reorganization. However, there are a number of brands listed among food and drink, not just Tim's (i.e. Molson's), so they should all be grouped together as either brands/companies under food and drink, or organized somehow under some other appropriate classifications under commerce. I don't realy think of Tim's as retail, but I suppose it is. I'm not all that fussed where they go, as long as they are included somewhere. I wanted to thank you for all the much appreciated help you have contributed on the Ginger article. If you enjoy working on these Canadian articles in general, it would be great if you took interest on a larger scale. I can really use the help. I took an interest in the Edna Staebler Award. When I started editing, it was in this condition. I've made progress, but the whole package is rife for development. Eventually I hope to have all the authors and titles written including the shortlist titles. {{Edna Staebler Award honorees}} shows all the titles. In the end I hope to make List of Edna Staebler Award recipients a Featured List. Does any of that interest you? You have been wonderful on the Ginger article nevertheless. Aww, shucks. Absolutely, Strat. I love working on CanLit articles. Keep me updated about what you're working on, and I can definitely help out. That is very nice to see. I will definitely keep you informed. All of the titles in Edna Staebler Award are recently created stubs. Most are very interesting, and may even be more so for you, having better familiarity with the region and subjects. By all means, indulge at your leisure, and enjoy. I found his obituary. Looks like it will be a private ceremony for family. Do you think it's proper to add some biographical details to his entry on the Deceased Wikipedians page? (talk page stalker)

Your question is very interesting. I was unable to find clear guidance, noting that no clear exception is granted at wp:outing either. In the past when I have seen the obituary posted, it was at the request of surviving next of kin (NOK). At the same time, the majority of entries at wp:rip are supported by the inclusion of an obit.

Although I can not discount the possibility that each example is preceded by a NOK request, it appears improbable to me. Additionally the super-vast-majority of entries is within a section that includes their real life name, followed by their user name, Again it seems improbable that they all were requested in advance. I would naturally suspect any request to remove information by a NOK would be honored, with oversight.

The deceased listing on meta-wiki states "If you are aware ... please add them to the list, along with a short biography if possible."[2] The "if possible" clause is ambiguous as it is not clear if it is possible when it is within ones capability, or possible because it has been properly authorized.

It seems prudent to me to seek official clarification via an Arbcom request for clarification, which would not produce a timely enough result to allow editors to post condolences to the obituary for Franamax, but it might clear the way for future situations of similar complexity. My personal opinion is that it should be allowed, but short of clear guidance, I would be reluctant to consider it within the realm of wp:bold editing. If an RfC of any form is started to ask this question, please advise me for I would be interested to comment and follow the outcome. It's an interesting question. Franamax did keep his identity anonymous on his user page, but he also attended RL events where he let other editors know his real name, and used it in email correspondences. If I had the impression that the anonymity was very important to him (i.e. if he had given a pseudonym at the local meetups), I wouldn't even consider it. I think as an admin doing the work he sometimes did, it was only prudent to keep his identity private.
The details I read in the obit aren't potentially damaging to his reputation or his loved one's well-being. (He wasn't a mafia don, or actually a 34-year old woman) Still, it's a question of balancing the Wikipedian's right to privacy with the desire of grieving friends to celebrate his life. It's not something I would take to ArbCom. Personally, I'd like to remember him as a human, rather than a username, but I already have that luxury. I'm really not sure. The DYK for Ginger got a deserved tick from Gatoclass, and the credit is all yours for this one. I even like the alternative hook much better. I have one question, is it entirely accurate to call the work a biography? The better emphasis appears to me to be creative non-fiction. It's definitely a nuance, but I think it is sufficient enough to prevent it from rising to a biography. Some of the included sources opine that a downside was that it missed that opportunity to have included several important facets which would have given the work the status of a biography, or some such. Unless you are very comfortable with it being called a biography, I'd opt for c n-f. Cheers. Nyttend's fault. No need to continue clogging up this page, unless of course The Interior disagrees.
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would explain in detail your process for reviewing DYK nominations. You approved Intraplate deformation for the Main Page despite the fact that it had no page numbers for anything, and despite the fact that nothing in the hook was supported by the claimed reference. Your explanation should appear at the "Main page error reports are ignored" section of WP:AN. The problem was that the article content has changed since my review, specifically the section and ref the hook was based on. Here is the version I reviewed : http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Intraplate_deformation&oldid=525380751#cite_note-earthquake-7
The section of text the hook was based upon was removed by another editor here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Intraplate_deformation&diff=526645536&oldid=526643474 along with the ref that had supported the hook. No edit summary.
As for my reviewing process, it's more involved than many. First, use the DYK check tool to establish basic eligibility. Second, read through the article for obvious errors and bad grammar (at which point I usually do a quick copyedit). Third, I survey the sources looking for unreliable ones. Fourth, I open the most used sources, and use the duplication detector to look for plagiarism. Lastly, check out the hook and ref.
I suppose I bear some responsibility for missing that change on my watchlist, but it isn't the job of the reviewer to monitor every change made to a reviewed article. That responsibility I'd put more on the nominator. Without an edit summary, I would have little idea that the chunk and ref I based my hook review on was yanked. So, perhaps a bit research could be done on your part before dragging someone's name through the mud on the administrator's noticeboard. The Interior (Talk) 19:05, 9 December 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-12-09T19:05:00.000Z","author":"The Interior","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-The_Interior-2012-12-09T19:05:00.000Z-Nyttend-2012-12-09T13:24:00.000Z","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-12-09T19:09:00.000Z-The_Interior-2012-12-09T19:05:00.000Z"]}}-->
On page numbers, they are not a requirement for DYK refs. I usually request them though if the content is hard to find. The problem is that the source for the ice bit doesn't address ice caps anywhere that I could find. Page numbers are required for verifiability on multi-page documents, which is a basic requirement of all pages; if you found it, I'd greatly appreciate you restoring it and citing the page number. Replied on AN. I won't be adding anything to that article because this is not my area of expertise. May I ask what is up with the aggressive questioning here? I think you are getting a bit of a rough treatment here. As you are not in control of later edits. The talk at AN has gone into the content of the articles and is nothing really to do with Adminstrators any more. I did a check myself that there was a reference for the hook, beofre nominating, but I would be happier for these criticisms by others to come up earlier before people get upset about it.
I would suggest that you just leave this behind you but in future check the reference to confirm the hook. If you cannot do it then ask at WT:DYK or leave it for someone else. Sigh. I did check the ref, Graeme, but thanks for the support. I agree that everyone should move on, but there is unfortunately this situation, where Nyttend has put one of my own nominations on hold because of this business, and repeated the claim that I was lying in my review. A) I don't think he has the right to do this (strike a QPQ review because he erroneously thought it was incomplete), and B) the accusation really should be struck. I take my editing here seriously, and I don't claim to have done things I haven't done in reviews, especially something as minor as a ref check.
I don't want bad blood between Nyttend and myself going forward, and I would really appreciate some resolution for this little dust-up. I'm a bit doubtful about my involvement with DYK after this. It's left a very bad taste in my mouth. I see why you are distressed. OK my next suggestion would be to do an easy QPQ to satisfy Nyttend. Since those other articles have already finished the DYK process completely there is nothing further for DYK. When I check a DYK I will see if the QPQ is done, but not do a complete DYK check on the QPQ article to confirm that it was done accurately or fully. (Actually we have quite a few slapdash reviews where we don't know what was checked). I did not erroneously think that it was incomplete. At the moment when you reviewed it, the hook was based on a citation to a document that did not discuss the information that the hook said it did, and the article contained several citations that lacked a basic element. If post-reviewing changes were the issue, I wouldn't have bothered you one bit, because I'm well aware that reviewers aren't responsible for post-reviewing changes; I can't remember the last time that I paid attention to an article after approving it. I'm sorry to bother you, but we absolutely must do our best to ensure that Main Page content is accurate. "the hook was based on a citation to a document that did not discuss the information that the hook said it did" This is the third time you've repeated this, and I responded on AN: From the source: "GIA [[[Glacial isostatic adjustment]]] affects most of the North American continent, with a maximum predicted present-day uplift rate of 15 mm/yr centered on Hudson Bay, decaying radially with distance." pg. 17 of the PDF. Hook statement: "that tectonic plates in the Earth's crust are not completely rigid but can be deformed by the melting of an ice cap?" By the definition of GIA, the plates are not stable because of the rising crust in areas of geologically recent glacial retreat. I'm not sure what else I can do to convince you that I did check the source, and it did contain information that I felt supported the hook statement. If we disagree, that's a point for discussion. But it isn't a good reason to publicly shame someone at a widely read noticeboard, or a reason to strike a qpq review. Why assume bad faith here? Have I given you some prior reason to doubt my motives? I'm really, really saddened by this, Nyttend. I don't recall interacting with you before, and I'm confused why this has worked out so badly. I'm very sorry and ask your forgiveness. Since you've replied here, I wasn't looking at WP:AN, so I didn't know that you'd addressed this there. I couldn't find the passage you cited when looking at the article before, because there wasn't any page numbers. Could you go back to Mac DeMarco and add a source or two for his discography? That's the only thing I'm seeing to hold back that nomination; I've not reviewed the album article, so I can't give any informed comments on it. Sorry to keep piling on the orange banners. I've hatted the majority of this thread, but of course I won't object if you un-hat, since it's your talk page. Bedtime for me, so I'll say no more, but feel free to copy my apology to WP:AN or anywhere else that you think it appropriate; I hope that this will end the matter by showing that you didn't do anything wrongly. Apology happily accepted, Nyttend. I think we were sort of talking past each other, and my admittedly defensive reaction probably didn't help the situation. I'm in exam season right now, and a bit stressed. I do appreciate your efforts to keep DYK respectable; it is an uphill battle, I know, between poorly written articles, poor reviewing, and vociferous critics, it is challenging. There is still a lot of great content that goes through the project, and I enjoy taking part. My takeaway from this episode: Page Numbers Are Important in Reviews, and always try to react calmly to criticism, even if you think it is in error. I cussed for the first time on WP - bad form! Anyways, I'll do a bit of work on Mr. DeMarco this evening or tomorrow, thank you for reviewing. I'm glad we were able to resolve this, Nyttend. Enjoy your holidays! Thank you for accepting the apology. Because I was sleepy, my last comment didn't make enough sense — in the final sentence, I meant "I hope that copying my apology wherever necessary will show everyone that you shouldn't be criticised here". I'm in my final semester of library school, although as I'm doing two master's degrees simultaneously, I won't graduate until May because I'm not quite done with my history MA. Unfortunately, I couldn't take a cataloging class due to schedule; they have a highly theoretical "Representation" course that fulfills the same requirement, and due to scheduling issues, that was the one I had to take. I really wish I had some sort of experience with cataloging...Nyttend (talk) 22:41, 11 December 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-12-11T22:41:00.000Z","author":"Nyttend","type":"comment","level":6,"id":"c-Nyttend-2012-12-11T22:41:00.000Z-The_Interior-2012-12-11T17:11:00.000Z","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-12-12T22:16:00.000Z-Nyttend-2012-12-11T22:41:00.000Z"]}}-->
Concurrent master's? You must be a maniac behind the books, and on the keyboard! I've really enjoyed our cataloguing section. MARC coding was intimidating at first, 999 fields, plus limiters and subfields, but it's a logical system and it grows on you. Of course, the job market for full-time cataloguers is shrinking, so it's up in the air how much I'll actually use it. But it's good to know, checking derived records and such. Hi J, I was just typing a message to you as the little message bar popped up! Marcus was worried that when you make copy/paste moves, the record of other editor's contribs might get lost, which is a problem in articlespace. However, as long as you are the only contributor to your drafts, it's fine to do it as you have been. The other way is to use the "move" function (accessed from the little down arrow beside "View history" on the top o' page. You'll be asked which "space" to move it to ("article") and the new title (make sure to take out the "User:xxxx/" bit) This is a bit cleaner, as it preserves the edit history from the draft page. However, if it's all you, it's pretty much moot. The second method is what I use, so it obviously is awesomer. just realized you've tried this, reading apprehension low this morning. It's an extra step, yes. We love extra steps.
Yes, no more Mexico for this muchacho. Was good while it lasted. Tho the sun is shining here in Van, I should go take advantage. How were your holidays? I'm glad the sunshine has followed you home--hopefully the relaxed vibe too! Our holidaze have been just fine in Milwaukee--it's been nice for me to have a little break.
So of course I want to do things your awesomer way/the right way, but what hangs me up with using "move" is that I have to then set up a whole new draft space each time I want to create a new article instead of just revising within the one drafty space. I guess I'm curious about what method you'd recommend for starting a new article draft in userspace. After contact with Marcus, I followed the recommended move procedure: I created a draft in my userspace (I called it T1) and then moved it, but this made T1 into something I couldn't recycle the next time I wanted to write an article. (And, yes, my current Stub Fest involves many rather similar articles.) But presumably T1 is something I can now delete from my userpage because its history moved with it to articlespace, no? All of this seems like stuff I should have learned long, long ago so I thank you for your generosity and patience. It's fun being someone who can simultaneously wrangle 50 people to get videos into the encyclopedia and yet rankles admins with my amateurism! --Jgmikulay (talk) 21:04, 30 December 2012 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-12-30T21:04:00.000Z","author":"Jgmikulay","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Jgmikulay-2012-12-30T21:04:00.000Z-The_Interior-2012-12-30T19:20:00.000Z","replies":["c-The_Interior-2012-12-30T21:52:00.000Z-Jgmikulay-2012-12-30T21:04:00.000Z"]}}-->
Good to hear. I'm staying warm by writing about forest fires (my latest: Chinchaga fire). I'm enjoying my final "nothing to do" day before the new term starts up, bike ride on the Seawall, then junk food and Homeland. Oh the pleasures of the single life!
You've identified the weaknesses of the "move" method. There is really no right or wrong way, such is the hodgepodge of Wikipedia. You're right that for every moved draft, a "redirect" is created, and that draft space is now hard to edit. To delete the old redirect pages, place {{db-g7}} on the page, and someone will come by and zap it. I start each draft by typing in "User:The Interior/New Article name" into my "User:The Interior/Under Construction" space, creating a redlink. I then start drafting on that page. It makes keeping track of my many not-followed-through-on efforts easier. Is any of this really necessary? No. The cut/paste way is perfectly acceptable. It would be problematic for a student draft, when there are multiple editors. But for your own drafts, do it how you like to. I guess it's a question of whether you like a a single, permanent draft space in which to work, or a new one for every article. This part of Wikipedia really should be streamlined, there are currently three ways to do it (including WP:Articles for Creation (mostly for new users)) and it's an obvious area of confusion. Don't worry about rankling, I think in this case Marcus learned something new, so net gain. Keep it up with the Stub Fest! (tho by rights your articles are solid "Start" class at least!) Always here for questions like this, Jenny. Makes my own stumbling mistake-ridden process seem worthwhile if I can pass on something useful. Which I'm not sure I have here, but so it goes. Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.

You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.

Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.

If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.

Please do these steps as soon as possible

First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.

Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:

Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).

After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)

As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.

Communication and keeping up to date

In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:

  1. The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
  2. The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
  3. If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadors connect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.
Ambassador training and resources

We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)

Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.

The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.

Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

As you were one of a number of editors who participated in Wikipedia talk:Did you know/GibraltarPediA Options last September, I thought I would notify you that I have suggested a change to the wording of the restrictions to clarify what is being restricted. Please see WT:DYK#Proposed minor wording change to Gibraltarpedia restrictions for the details. Sorry, but this whole Gib business I am so tired of. It's been very divisive, and I'm unhappy to see yet more disagreements related to it. Will not take part. I know exactly what you mean, and I hope to see the back of it soon myself. Sorry to bother you. No worries, not bothered, just saddened by continual discord and drama among colleagues. Yep. I've been a contributor here since 2003 and in all that time I've never experienced anything like what I've witnessed over the last four months or so. It's indeed very sad.
