Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. Please don't use edit summaries like this. If you have a problem with an editor, go to their talk page and explain (politely) what it is that bothers you. Using templates in edit summaries to ping me doesn't work anyway, and your accusations are baseless. Apparently you have less of an issue with the editor adding false claims and using sources which don't support their edits, than with the editor checking these things. Nothing I have done has been "disruptive to the creation of the article", I have made the grand total of 2 edits since you started editing it (I was editing it before you showed up), so your reaction is completely over the top. Please also take a look at MOS:LEADLENGTH: there is no need to wait for a GA check to indicate such issues, and there is no requirement that one needs to fulfill some edit request or listen to some WP:OWN issues from another editor before such issues can be tagged. Collaboration doesn't mean only editing in the way you like it, but accepting the contributions of others, no matter the type of edit they made, as long as they aren't vandalizing. Fram Please do not return to my page. Perhaps it is that English may not be your first language, but your tone is not collegial and to me is condescending. If you have a problem with the article, please feel free "explain (politely) what it is that bothers you" on the talk page, or as I invited you to do, just edit it. What is clear is that it was being actively edited and you were adding tags. That is and will continue to be disruptive. I am not known to have ownership issues with articles, in fact, quite the opposite. I ask for critique and input from numerous editors in improving articles and rarely reject any constructive changes. I strongly believe that together we build a better encyclopedia than anyone could do on their own. 16:24, 30 November 2023 (UTC) SusunW (talk) 16:24, 30 November 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231130162400","author":"Fram","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Fram-20231130162400-Fram-20231130155200","replies":["c-Fram-20231130172800-Fram-20231130162400"]}}-->
I'll probably not return after this, but a) you can't directly address an editor (in an edit summary, with a failed template) and then expect them not to answer: and the place to discuss editor concerns is user talk pages; and b) adding a tag is editing and is explaining what the problem is. If it wasn't clear, you could have asked. I "was adding tags", well, once, you seem to have an extremely low threshold for what you consider to be "disruptive". And if you want a collegial tone, perhaps try to contact someone in a civil manner on their talk page instead of going all-in from the start in a rather abusive edit summary on the article. I have read your comments to another editor throughout the work on this article, and thus, your characterizing my threshold as low is unfounded. For those who know me, I avoid conflict like the plague and typically never speak out, unless poor behavior is repetitive. While your initial concerns were valid, your approach, in my opinion, was not. Rather than "school someone", my approach is typically to attempt to correct problems and collaborate in a friendly manner. I apologize if you thought my edit was "abusive", that was not my intent, which was rather to ask you to help, instead of your repeated behavior. It would never have occurred to me to go to your talk page, given my observations over many years of how you speak to editors. I've had a first go at copy editing but I think the text could still benefit from further improvement. I noticed that the lead states that "the United Nations declared 1975 as International Women's Year" but this is not specifically reflected in the body of the article. Under Cold War changes, I think we could mention that they met in North Korea (not just Korea), as mentioned in various sources. Fleeting mention of the various congresses and conferences held over the years will no doubt be improved as further interest in the organization begins to emerge. For now, the article provides a good overview. As you may have noticed, I've started to compile a list of names which I'll try to extend as time permits.--Ipigott (talk) 13:10, 10 November 2023 (UTC) Have we any information when Women of the Whole World began and ceased publication?--Ipigott (talk) 13:27, 10 November 2023 (UTC) Don't want to complicate things further but I've just come across this CIA document which doesn't seem to be among your sources. Thanks Ipigott Good catch - leaving out IWY in the body is a big deal. I'll look to fix that. And yes, obviously it's been around for almost 80 years, so a lot to try to condense. There wasn't much to go on from where I started Special:PermanentLink/1169781840. (I think the Korea trip probably deserves its own article, but that won't be for me to write.) As source materials are found (de Haan said something about negotiations being underway for private holders to donate the materials from the Paris years to an archive in 2012, but no clue if that happened) and academics begin writing more about it, I am sure the article can be further improved. I also couldn't find any scholarly assessments about the organization in its "after the 1990s" modern form. Could have expanded it a bit with newspaper snippets, but since there was so much controversy about the organization, I felt scholarly work was best. I think the journal began at the outset. Various sources talk about articles in 1946 and 1947. I have no idea if it is still in publication. I'll do a bit more checking after I finish working through the names. So much to do with it. Everyone has been pretty generous in jumping in and I am very grateful for all the help on it. You and I both know that access to sourcing depends on where one "is" so people outside of Mexico probably have access to sources I don't. In any case, the whole thing seems to be progressing well and has opened up a new chapter for us in covering the biographies of women associated with "democratic" organizations. I've just discovered that the two Danes mentioned in the CIA document, Ruth Hermann [da] and Alvilda Larsen [da], already have articles in Danish and could easily be covered in English (now that we are focusing on women in politics). The same is probably true for many more. Looks like we should be compiling some red lists. Please let me know when you are happy with the article and I'll take a new look.
From here I see that Women of the Whole World was published from 1951 to 1990. monthly 1951-65, quarterly 1966-89, bimonthly 1990.--Ipigott (talk) 14:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231110145700","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Ipigott-20231110145700-SusunW-20231110141600","replies":["c-SusunW-20231110152200-Ipigott-20231110145700"]}}-->
Ipigott Great that you found some Danish women. Both the Danish and Luxembourgish organizations could be done too. I totally agree on the redlist bit. Lots of women/organizations to cover. I kind of have been holding off posting them in activists/organizations until we confirm the names. It's slow going. I keep having to phone a friend. LOL. Good on the publication (which also should probably have an article), but I truly think I saw info that it started earlier. Anyway, I'll add dates. Yes, I agree we could cover lots of their organizations too, starting with the Union des femmes luxembourgeoises [fr] or Union of Luxembourg Women. But please, Susun, don't get into the habit of calling everything to do with Luxembourg "Luxembourgish"- Unfortunately the Luxembourg authorities (mis)use it all the time but unless you are referring to the language, in English we just use "Luxembourg" as the qualifier, e.g. Luxembourg football, Luxembourg weather, Luxembourg organizations (just like New Zealand football, New Zealand weather, New Zealand organizations). Another horror is the Wikipedia invention "Luxembourgian". Just look at all those categories: Luxembourgian people, Luxembourgian architecture, Luxembourgian art, etc., etc. I once considered trying to have them all corrected but I realized I would be overruled by "experts" who have little knowledge of the English language and its usage. And of course the Luxembourgers themselves (Luxembourgians???) would probably want to change them to Luxembourgish based on the widely used adjective "letzeburgesch" in Luxembourgish. Nevertheless I'm pleased to see that the actual titles of articles of things relating to Luxembourg are generally correct: Luxembourg Armed Forces, Luxembourg Film Award, Luxembourg women's national football team. Sorry about all that but it's one of those things that always upsets me.--Ipigott (talk) 17:10, 10 November 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231110171000","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Ipigott-20231110171000-SusunW-20231110152200","replies":["c-SusunW-20231110172200-Ipigott-20231110171000"]}}-->

It's a small world. I didn't realize you had such close connections with Luxembourg. Clemency or Kënzeg is a charming little village in Luxembourg about 12 km west of Mamer where we live, while Messancy is a bit further away in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. Perhaps you have visited them yourself? Luxemburg without the O is also an acceptable spelling for the country and the people are often referred to as Luxemburgers, especially in historical accounts. But as Luxemburg is also the name of the country in German, current usage now prefers the French Luxembourg. That is also the spelling used in all official European Union documents. Interesting that your family use Luxemburger more generally as an adjective. Do any of them still speak Luxembourgish? You might be interested to see from here that there are almost as many records of people called Theis in America as there are in Luxembourg. Clemency is listed with 112. Indeed a small world. Been to Luxembourg, but not Clemency. (Been to Belgium, but not Messancy and been to Wisconsin, but not to Belgium, LOL) Amazing you live close to there. Whenever I say some of my family came from Luxembourg, people ask where that is. None of them still speak anything but English as far as I know. It's my only line that came in the 19th century and they lived in Belgium, Wisconsin, before they made the 1895 land run. They came in 1867-1868. The rest of my whole family were southerners and came before the US was the US. No New England blue bloods, just proud southern dirt farmers. The judge who tried the Silkwood case is a distant Theis relative. (I'm also distantly related to Clarence Darrow, 17th cousin or something, but by the time the Darrows married in, the line I come from was living in the south). Many Americans seem to think Luxembourg is in Germany. I've even received mail addressed to Luxembourg, Germany! Thousands of Luxembourgers emigrated to Chicago from the mid-19th century where they established a close-knit community, including their own newspaper (Luxemburger Post from 1897) which from time to time published articles in Luxembourgish. I can remember people used to joke about the fact that the world's only Luxembourgish-language newspaper was printed in Chicago. Ahalenia Thank you. I have a particular affinity for research and having grown up in Oklahoma recognize the importance of Native people and the influences they have had on our culture. Ahalenia I think that is truth about many Native women who are artists. It may give me an edge that I took art classes they offered for kids at Philbook, Bacone, and Gilcrease, attended exhibits at those places and the Five Civilized Tribes Museum (and spent my honeymoon at an art exhibit at Philbook). I truth, have insider information on Oklahoma Native artists, although I don't consider it to be a COI if I don't know them personally. Hello SusunW, I wanted to let you know that I have nominated the article Education for featured article status. So far, there has not been much response from reviewers. I was wondering whether you are inclined to have a look at it. I saw that you brought several education-related articles to GA status. So if you have the time, your expertise in this field would be appreciated. The nomination page can be found at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Education/archive1. Phlsph7 I am happy to take a look. I am not an expert on education, although my lived experience is that life is a continuous journey of education and I spent a decade in university. (I love learning and would have been a perpetual student except for the fact that no one wanted to pay me to study and instead expected me to pay them. .) I do not know if asilvering also would be interested in assisting you with the article, but it is her field. I very much agree with you about the prospects and financial woes of being a perpetual student. Thanks for reviewing this article and for mentioning asilvering, I left a message on their talk page. It's my field inasmuch as I'm an educator, though that isn't quite the same as having a degree in Education specifically. If you can find someone in theory of education I'm sure they'd be an enormous help, and possibly a librarian would be a good person to ask also? The article does wander into my field in the history section, possibly to your chagrin, so I've left some more detailed comments there. I need to go do something else for a while right now, but I'll happily be a non-expert reader on the rest later, maybe after you've addressed the comments you've got from others so far? Kudos again for getting into such a huge topic. I'm hesitant to try FA-ing anything, but I sure wouldn't want to try something so vast as "Education". I'm impressed! -- asilvering (talk) 22:58, 5 December 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231205225800","author":"Asilvering","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Asilvering-20231205225800-Phlsph7-20231205170600","replies":["c-SusunW-20231205233000-Asilvering-20231205225800","c-Phlsph7-20231206091200-Asilvering-20231205225800"]}}-->
asilvering, it takes a village to get an article to FA and like you, I wouldn't even attempt something so broad as education, it's too important. I am definitely a non-expert reader. The cool thing about FA review is that contributions can be to a specific section or the article as a whole. Your suggestions here and in the review are sound. Pinging Phlsph7 to ensure that they see them. Thanks for the detailed comments and improvement suggestions! It's true that articles on broad topics like this one are challenging and many things can go wrong. For example, it's easy to miss something or to present it in an idiosyncratic way. The feedback given by reviewers from diverse backgrounds is essential to finding such blind spots. I know, Susun, that you have built up quite an effective network of people who have been able to help you out with technical problems. LOL ARoseWolf send me a photo, it's the only way I do snow. Same with cookies, virtual ones are best. I am fairly sure it has been yeeeeeears since I actually ate a cookie. My usual habit is never to eat them, but then once in a blue moon to take one bite the minute it is cool enough out of the oven and then to give the rest of it to my husband. I do however eat pie and had a lovely slice of pumpkin for Thanksgiving. I wish, Asareel, but the snowbirds who are fleeing that northern snow won't be here to bring the new computer until after the Christmas holidays. Patience is a virtue . You make me smile. I should send you pictures of winter we had in Haines years ago if I can find them. They had to bring out the heavy equipment to cut paths down roads in town. The snow and ice was 5-6 meters thick in some locations. A literal tunnel of ice. We do have snow piling up higher than that here where I am now but its mostly wind driven. We don't have very many windows on the lower level of our home for that reason and because it's just another avenue for the heat to escape. When we were kids we would catch butterflies. We wouldn't keep them because they were so delicate but to examine their colors and patterns for a brief time was fascinating. I observe each human smile with much the same wonder and awe. I catch as many are offered in all their splendid colors. Keep smiling! --ARoseWolf 19:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231130194600","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20231130194600-SusunW-20231130191400","replies":["c-Mujinga-20231130200100-ARoseWolf-20231130194600","c-SusunW-20231130200300-ARoseWolf-20231130194600"],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->

I cannot imagine that amount of snow. Never lived anywhere that it was ever 6 inches or less and I think the deepest snow I have ever personally been in was about 1 meter. I thought that was awful! We have hundreds of butterflies at certain times of year and many varieties of bees (and ants and mosquitos, ugh) year round. I am thankful we made it through this rainy season without any flooding. Hello SusunW! I hope this message finds you well? I have started work on a page for Victoria Howard a Clackamas story teller born on the Grand Ronde reservation in Oregon, USA. I am awaiting access to a useful book. In the meantime, I wondered if you would know an editor who has lived experience of indigenous people in North America? I have a few questions to ask and would greatly benefit from their eyeballing the text once I have got as far as I can. No hurry from my side as I am waiting for a book to arrive! All pointers welcome! ARoseWolf I'm honest. My coding abilities generally suck. Balance person A word about these collections:
1) Hathitrust has items that are out of copyright. They only offer in-copyright items to people with visual disabilities. I usually search in quotes and then narrow by place or date. See example. Once I think I have found the topic, I then search in the document, using the "search in this text" box on the left, which will create links you can jump to for the specific pages the subject is on, like in this.
2) Archive.org has items in and out of copyright BUT for that reason results vary country by country. I mean by that if I find something searching from Mexico I might not be able to access a full view, if I am in say the UK. (Similar to google books) Search using quote marks otherwise you'll get way too much stuff. The first bullet below the search bar, marked "Search metadata" is sometimes helpful for finding titles, but doesn't always work. I typically use the second bullet, marked "Search text contents" and you end up with something like this. If you leave the search results open and right click on your choice, you can open it in a new window. That will give you for example, this, which tells you you can borrow it. If you are signed in, you can borrow the book. At the bottom on the right, you can select single page view or increase the text size. If you borrow it, you can go to page 123 and find a lovely photo which could be downloaded as fair use.
3) The RX is fabulous. It cannot get you whole books, but it can give you journal articles and/or chapters of books.
Hope that helps. (Just my brief searches here absolutely confirm she meets WP notability requirements. Your suggestions are so valuable that I copy and paste them so I can save them in a Word doc on my PC..in case things here get archived and I have no idea how to find them. I work on editing sporadically so it is sometimes a while before I need the exact advice again. So I am salting away all your goodies for when I do. Thanks very much indeed. There is so much I don't know! But I do like learning so this is fun! And I am really glad that VH is in the encyclopedia now. If you look at my user page, not my talk, I write all kinds of stuff there about how to code stuff, etc. because I won't remember and won't know how to find it again. Hi @SusunW. I wanted to thank you again for your comprehensive GA review of Louise Nevelson Plaza. It was a pleasure to work with you! Ppt91 Thank you. I also enjoyed our experience. Reviewing is hard for me because I struggle with critiquing other people's work and holding them to standards I hold myself to, if that makes sense. Regardless, I push myself to do it because it is a part of the learning process and I genuinely think articles are improved by intentional collaboration (far different from drive by editing ). I also hope that my own articles are reviewed by others with the spirit of a review being a conversation and collaboration for improvement. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Wishing you a lovely holiday season too. The article Mrs. Ngo Ba Thanh you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Mrs. Ngo Ba Thanh for comments about the article, and Talk:Mrs. Ngo Ba Thanh/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. My apologies, I didn't intend to drag you into this hostile debate. No worries Bender235. I wasn't aware of it, but I make thousands of edits. If someone reverts them, they do. Anyone can edit. I rarely revert changes someone makes to my edits unless they are misrepresenting what a source says, but I will almost never jump into a contentious debate. For the most part I strive to avoid conflict of any kind. It does not usually lend itself to building the encyclopedia. Today, I managed to get the pics to snow (on 28 Nov), and heard a lovely concert, after listening to a miracle of meditative dreaming on 6 December (or just click on music). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:28, 8 December 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231208222800","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20231208222800-SusunW-20231202174000","replies":["c-SusunW-20231209133500-Gerda_Arendt-20231208222800"]}}-->
Snow is pretty from a distance. Those poor horses. At 7:30 a.m. it's 24C here. You're right, lovely music. The horses seemed quite calm - heads down for minutes, all of them. - Today, to Paris (29 Nov, no snow there) with a visit to the Palais Garnier, - to match the story of Medea Amiranashvili, - don't miss listening to her expressive voice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:22, 9 December 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231209202200","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":7,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20231209202200-SusunW-20231209133500","replies":["c-SusunW-20231209204200-Gerda_Arendt-20231209202200"]}}-->
I am ahead of you . I saw your conversation earlier with George and played the link. Would that I were visiting my dear friend in Paris right now. I'd brave even snow just to visit with her a while. Reading his story makes me think of my childhood - freedom rallies and Hebrew school (my godparents were Jewish and my mom was afraid that if something happened to them (my parents) I would need to understand the language. Cool. I finally finished by Cuban anti-war activist. Really, really hard article to write and I still don't know if she was a villain or a victim, but that said, she was an architect of the cultural policies in Cuba founding music, dance, art, and literary schools in post-Revolutionary Cuba. Gerda Arendt Lovely! I love adding gender studies/gender historians to the encyclopedia. Without them, the work I do wouldn't be possible. Happy Eve of the Eve as my friend Ben would say. Enjoy getting together! - I uploaded more pics, with Christmas trees and related artworks, and I have two women on the Main page (for a sad reason). Our Christmas singing (of my user's infobox music "singen, singen") was pictured. Today's story is again a woman, mentioning seven others, - not possible on real DYK, that's why I make my own. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:36, 30 December 2023 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20231230233600","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":17,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20231230233600-SusunW-20231230140100","replies":[]}}-->
