Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 10,605 last month to 10,659 on July 29th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 105 is ahead of WP:GM who have 79. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,269 articles.
Currently we have thirty Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The August 2013 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.
Monitoring is essential Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Westgate, Canterbury, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Thomas (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wiki Loves Monuments
This month sees the UK participating in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition for the first time. The aim is to capture images of Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings and to upload them to Commons. Many monuments have no images available for them or need better ones without clutter in view. The lists of the monuments have been produced on a county basis, some already existed as wiki articles, and have been enhanced as part of this process. A full list of the English lists for use in the competition are available at listed buildings in England. If you are interested in taking part then take a look at the UK home page for further details. You do not have to take images in Yorkshire but it would be helpful if those in the area would help out to try and get at least one image for every monument in our area. Would be good to get some of the unusual or overlooked ones, for example we have several of "Sewerby House", but no good ones of the "Terrace Balustrade and Attached Garden Wall and Archway to Sewerby House" as this appears as an incidental item in images of the main house.

Hi again. I am interested in him because he designed a church close to where I live: St John the Baptist's Church, Hove. Would you please consider creating a page for his brother William, and possibly another one for his father, who was an architect too as I recall? Btw I don't think the middle name is necessary. I suppose it depends on which other buildings they designed. I suggest you add red links for the father and brother. Meanwhile, it would be wonderful if you could expand Gilbert Blount's page--are you interested? I am stuck with the Sassoons right now, but very interested in the architecture and notable residents of Brighton & Hove--mostly Hove, actually.Zigzig20s (talk) 08:27, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-10-12T08:27:00.000Z","author":"Zigzig20s","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T08:27:00.000Z-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T08:07:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

Cool. I think it would be great to create pages for each church, as long as they are listed. I am working on the Sassoon family at the moment--some of whom lived in Brighton & Hove--and it's a lot more work than I anticipated--LOTS of info out there, but all over the place, and the dates or names aren't always consistent. Let me know if you work on Gilbert Blount. Since I'm here, I am happy to take pictures if I can--inside churches is a bit tricky as it doesn't only depend on me, but I've noticed quite a few parks don't have pictures in the public domain for example.Zigzig20s (talk) 10:27, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-10-12T10:27:00.000Z","author":"Zigzig20s","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T10:27:00.000Z-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T09:14:00.000Z","replies":["c-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T10:41:00.000Z-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T10:27:00.000Z"]}}-->
What do you mean? Why? Inside or outside? I don't take pictures of graves if that's what you're referring to--that would be a little strange I think. I did do that at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery last summer, but everyone does--that's different--they are celebrities. Oh yes, I see what you mean now. For some reason I thought you were suggesting I take a picture of graves/tombs around churches lol! I am reluctant to take pictures inside churches without asking the priest/pastor if I am allowed to do it, because some of them are opposed to it (sometimes to avoid burglaries, sometimes because they are supposed to be holy/sacred places)...Zigzig20s (talk) 12:30, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-10-12T12:30:00.000Z","author":"Zigzig20s","type":"comment","level":6,"id":"c-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T12:30:00.000Z-Zigzig20s-2013-10-12T10:41:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Emil Fuchs (artist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page High society (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 10,706 last month to 10,787 on October 30th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 108 is ahead of WP:GM who have 81. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,294 articles.
Currently we have thirty one Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The November 2013 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.

Thanks but being a Gnome blushed a bit, on the different note want to thank you for such a wonderful article. Did you really do that in one edit or edited in a text editor like word or notepad cause amassing that in one edit needs tremendous concentration which in my cases lapses after 4,000 or 8000 bytes. Thank you for your kind comment - much appreciated. You ask how the article about King's Hall, Herne Bay was created. I guess I did what many of our dedicated editors do. I created the article over two years in my sandbox. I did the basic research in 2011 and brought home many photocopies of newspaper reports, took photographs of the subject onsite, and bought a number of very old postcards of the subject via the internet. I wrote a small part of the article at the end of 2011, then had a long break. I took it up again in autumn 2013 and worked for many hours and what felt like many days - it involved hundreds of edits in the sandbox. The postcards have been donated to the archive which holds the local museum exhibits. I see the article as a public service to my home town, because knowledge of the building and what it represents will aid its preservation for the future.--Storye book (talk) 17:41, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-11-23T17:41:00.000Z","author":"Storye book","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Storye_book-2013-11-23T17:41:00.000Z-Sohambanerjee1998-2013-11-23T16:34:00.000Z","replies":["c-Sohambanerjee1998-2013-11-24T06:10:00.000Z-Storye_book-2013-11-23T17:41:00.000Z"]}}-->
Everything's right but one thing, the article was not moved to mainspace as is required in DYK but thats a minor problem the DYK reviewer will overlook, next time onwards move the article instead of copy-pasting from sandbox if you intend to nominate it for DYK. Thats a heads up. Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know I had to move the page, even after preparing 40+ DYKs already. It looks like an onerous task, but I'll make the effort next time. Yes I had thought of trying for Good Article for King's Hall, Herne Bay - thanks for the encouragement! I had also considered Herne Bay Pier and Hampton-on-Sea for GA, but hadn't got around to it. --Storye book (talk) 09:17, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-11-24T09:17:00.000Z","author":"Storye book","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Storye_book-2013-11-24T09:17:00.000Z-Sohambanerjee1998-2013-11-24T06:14:00.000Z","replies":["c-Sohambanerjee1998-2013-11-25T08:51:00.000Z-Storye_book-2013-11-24T09:17:00.000Z"]}}-->
Yeah, notice the move in moved to mainpace(from userspace). Before you go for a GA Nom list your article for a copyedit here as copyediting is a must before one, GA nomination that is. It's not just the move, though, is it; it's all the housekeeping tasks immediately afterwards, especially moving the correct amount of edit history across from my sandbox, which is full of previous history from previous articles also. Yes exactly, sandbox is a testing space, therefore if you move it unwanted edit also moves with it to namespace. To avoid you should create a new subpage of your user page i.e. starting with the prefix User:Storye book/(the article name goes here). For example whenever I create new articles I create a subpage like User:Sohambanerjee1998/Tooh (song) and then when the article is fleshed out I move it to namespace, therefore avoiding the junk present in my sandbox. Ah, I'd been vaguely wondering whether that would work - thanks for that. I'll cut and paste the article to its own subpage now. It will lose some of its early edit history, but what the hey - it will amass plenty more before publication. --Storye book (talk) 13:19, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-11-25T13:19:00.000Z","author":"Storye book","type":"comment","level":9,"id":"c-Storye_book-2013-11-25T13:19:00.000Z-Sohambanerjee1998-2013-11-25T13:01:00.000Z","replies":["c-Sohambanerjee1998-2013-11-26T12:30:00.000Z-Storye_book-2013-11-25T13:19:00.000Z"]}}-->

Thanks for the info. I think the point is that assertions that can't be sourced should be, at minimum, flagged - and in some cases it's best to simply remove them. Wikipedia doesn't need to be in the business of claiming to give a comprehensive list of "official" Red Army Choirs at all, and it really can't be if there's no reliable source for such a thing. In any case, I'm happy to leave the "according to whom" tag up for the time being and see if someone can fill it in. Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 10,787 last month to 10,842 on November 29th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 108 is ahead of WP:GM who have 81. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,299 articles.
Currently we have thirty one Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
Happy Christmas
It is nearly the end of another year and Christmas will soon be upon us so Happy Christmas to all project members.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The December 2013 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.

Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 10,842 last month to 10,844 on December 14th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 108 is ahead of WP:GM who have 81. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 57 out of a total number of 3,300 articles.
Currently we have thirty one Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
Happy New Year
It is the start of another year and so Happy New Year to all project members.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The January 2014 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.
You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.
