Hi Slambo,

Could I possibly ask for your help in debugging some templates at my Wikia Wiki?

I need help in fixing Template:Infobox, Template:Infobox Public transit, Template:Infobox Bus transit and Template:Ambox. Luckily i remembered that TSW have a "nice" version of Infobox Rail for the articles that call that!

Hi Slambo,

Quick update if you don't mind?:

1. The infobox templates should really look like wikia:c:trams:Template:Infobox rail if you can do that!
2. The navbox issue is also on wikia:c:trams:Template:UK light rail and extends to all related templates. We have change Historic UK trams for now, but would like to revert in the future as we would like it to collapse!
3. Finally, wiki:c:trams:Template:Stub has some random code in it that I can't get rid of!

I hope you don't mind helping me out Slambo, but please do it whenever your able - it's low priority!

Rewards (probably in the form of barnstars with you being in America and be being in the UK!) will be given!

The WikiProject Good Articles Newsletter Volume I, No. 6 - April 2008 March issue | May issue Project News There are currently 3,868 Good Articles listed at WP:GA. The backlog at Good Article Nominations is 195 unreviewed articles. Out of 267 total nominations, 57 are on hold, 13 are under review, and 2 are seeking a second opinion. Please go to WP:GAN and review an article or three as soon as you have a chance! The oldest unreviewed articles are: A4232 road, New York State Route 63, Great American Boycott, First Great Western, Duck Soup, Sanja Matsuri, Code of Conduct (affiliate marketing), Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, Aliens (film), and Roanoke Regional Airport. Thank you to all! To delist or not to delist, that is the question So you’ve found an article that, on the face of it, does not merit its good article status. What next? Especially where there are many glaring issues that need addressing, it’s tempting to just revoke its GA status and remove it from the list, but although we are encouraged as editors to be bold, this approach (known to some as "bold delisting") is not recommended good practice. There are many reasons why a listed article might not meet the assessment criteria—it’s always possible that it never did, and was passed in error, but more likely the criteria have changed or the article quality has degraded since its original assessment. Either way, we should treat its reassessment with no less tact and patience than we would a fresh nomination. This, in fact, provides a good starting point for the delisting process. Approach the article as though it has been nominated for GA review. Read it and the GA criteria carefully, and provide a full reassessment on the article talk page. Explain where and why the article no longer meets the criteria, and suggest remedies. Having explained why the article no longer meets current GA criteria, allow its editors time to fix it! In keeping with the above approach, it may help to treat the article as on hold. There is no need to tag it as such, but give editors a reasonable deadline, and consider helping out with the repair work. Bear in mind that more flexibility may be required than for a normal hold—the editors did not request or expect your reassessment and will probably have other projects taking up their time. They may not have worked on the article for months or even years, and at worst the article may have been abandoned and its authors no longer active. As always, communication is the key. It sometimes helps to post messages to relevant WikiProjects (found at the top of the article talk page), or to contact editors directly (this tool is useful for identifying active editors for any given article). Only once the above process has run its course, and sufficient improvement has not been forthcoming, is it time to think about delisting the article. Communicate your final decision on the article talk page, even if there was no response to your reassessment and hold, and take the time to fill in the various edit summaries on the article talk and GA list pages to ensure the delisting is transparent and trackable. If you have any doubts about your final decision, you can list the article at Good article reassessment or contact one of the GA mentors, who will be happy to advise. Article reassessment is perhaps the single most controversial function of our WikiProject, and the one with the most potential to upset and alienate editors. Yet it is one of the most necessary too, since without the ability to revoke an article’s status we would be unable to maintain quality within the project. However, if we approach reassessment sensitively and with the goal of improving articles to the point where sanctions are unnecessary, we will ensure that delisting is the last resort, not the first. Delisting instructions From the Editors As we near the 4,000 Good Articles milestone, the project continues to grow and to gain respect in the Wikipedia community. A tag has been placed on Image:110-1063 IMG.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

I've just sorted out that issue of a ref for every sentence. If there are four sentences with the same reference, then it only needs the reference at the end of the fourth sentence, not every one! Thanks for your work on the article with the conversions and finding a more descriptive future template. Now you do realize the the citation templates are simply crutches for people who do not know how to properly format a citation, right? So you really didn't need to add those. Further, when you do, you should not leave the article worse off, as the publication names are no longer italicized, and every style guide I've ever used calls for italics for newspaper names. So, when you have a chance, could you go back and rectify this? Thanks. The use of citation templates is preferred by many editors in WikiProject Trains and subprojects for uniform and consistent presentation of references. Their use also simplifies coding for bots when changes need to be made on a wide scale as the information is saved in a standard format within the article text. We defer to the discussions on the individual templates for the proper rendering and display of reference information using these templates. I'll check my copy of the MLA guide when I get home; this is something that should be brought up on the template talk pages if it hasn't already been. WikiProject Trains does not own the article. This article was not created by a trains person, and after this experience I don't think I would want to assist a project like that, where they think their style should override written Wikipedia wide style guidelines. They do not get to impose standards that are in contravention of WP:CITE:

"The use of citation templates is neither encouraged nor discouraged. Templates may be used or removed at the discretion of individual editors, subject to agreement with other editors on the article. Because templates can be contentious, editors should not change an article with a distinctive citation format to another without gaining consensus." (emphasis in the original)

The citation template is working fine, because not all style guides would add italics to the publisher part, as the publisher is normally not the newspaper name, but the name of the company. For instance the Oregonian Publishing Company is the publisher of The Oregonian so the newspaper is italicized, not the publisher. Again, that's why I don't use the templates, I just format them in the proper format. If you compare the original version to the version there now you should notice that the order of the information is exactly the same. I think that would be the "uniform and consistent presentation of references" you seek. But again, this is not a trains article anymore than it is an Oregon article, which is why one project does not impose its standards on articles, since most articles have multiple projects they fall under. Which is where WP:CITE comes in as a uniform standard, which talks of this very issue as I quoted above. Citation templates are simply crutches for those who need help properly formatting a citation. I never tried to claim ownership of the article, I was just explaining why I made the change; WP Trains doesn't own the article, neither does WP Oregon. Looking at the template again, it appears that using the work= parameter instead of publisher= does what you want it to. Hello Slambo, I've just finished expanding this article in the area of B&O construction and operations 1856-1980s (ie. pre-MARC). It is better than a stub now.

One question, though, pertains to the article title. It seems to me that Camden Station would be better than the current title. From 1856 to the present, under B&O and now MARC, it is only called Camden Station in their timetables and all other company references. Only the light rail operator chooses to call their stop "Camden Yards", after the nearby Orioles baseball stadium. I'd like to rename it accordingly over the redirect. Your thoughts? Thanks, Slambo, for your reply. I still think that, as a railroad station, the article should be titled according to the historically accurate station's name and as presently listed in the serving railroad (MARC) schedule, not the MTA's light rail stop. But I can understand that the nearby Camden Yards ballpark is certainly more familiar nowadays as a prominent landmark. Anyway, I've proposed renaming the article at Talk:Camden Yards station to see if maybe there's consensus in support of this change. Hi Slambo, I'm writing a paper for a course that deals with credibility of online users and how credibility is established in the context of online communities.
