I should inform you, Rosie, that after enthusiastically participating in Women in Red for almost nine years, I have decided it is time for me to turn my attention to other matters, in particular new (and older) page patrol, assisting new editors, reviewing and assessing OKA translations, and helping with new projects such as Elit. My top priority has always been to avoid any kind of editing conflict but in the light of recent developments, I am finding this increasingly difficult and lack the resilience shown by Roger. I have noticed the enthusiasm of several more recent contributors and think it is time we should benefit from their assistance in ensuring the success of the project. I hope they will find it interesting to become more involved in welcoming new members, maintaining our showcase, press and research listings, and above all in selecting topics and ideas for effective future focus. I will of course always be happy to offer assistance to anyone who contacts me although I will not be creating any more new articles about women myself. Maybe I'll feel like returning when things are more settled but for the time being I am simply no longer sufficiently motivated. I would however like to thank you most sincerely, Rosie, for the outstanding leadership you have ensured in maintaining and promoting the project on a global basis. It has always been a pleasure to collaborate with you on WiR and other projects. Drop me a line if ever you think I can be of assistance. Dear Ian, I am so s-a-d reading this. I can't imagine not working with you at WiR. I appreciate you and what you have done so much and I believe Roger and everyone at WiR would say the same. Don't worry, Rosie. I think you'll see that other enthusiasts will be ready to help things along. I looked at MSGJ's proposal to delete all our earlier templates and could see he had already received substantial support from his friends. Unless he withdraws his proposal, it looks to me as if they will soon be deleted. Like most other contributors, I edit on Wikipedia because I enjoy it. Over the past two or three months, I have been faced with an increasing number of situations which seemed liable to cause disagreements, in some cases with participants who have made major contributions to the project. I have never been happy dealing with potential disagreements and conflicts and have therefore decided I should devote more time to supporting other areas in need of attention. While I will not be creating any more new articles on Women in Red, I might nevertheless try to improve and update past contributions, especially lists. And I'll still be around for you and anyone else who thinks I can help with anything. Thanks for your concern, Rosie. I appreciate your kind thoughts.--Ipigott (talk) 15:48, 1 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240501154800","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Ipigott-20240501154800-Rosiestep-20240501144200","replies":["c-Victuallers-20240501155200-Ipigott-20240501154800"]}}-->
Well I am also disappointed and I know I'm only posting a new article every day to one of the projects. I'm surprised that you didn't raise your specific point about me, with me, before posting here, but that is your choice. Our last exchange was about how much I valued your contribution. I remain faithful to you and hope that you may reconsider or at least have a discussion. The point about templates has been keeping me awake and I had some suggestions. Sorry, Roger, I was trying to hold on as long as possible without complaint but the developments yesterday convinced me that I could no longer participate successfully under the evolving changes. Your earlier unwarrented treatment was also one of the reasons I decided I needed to move õn. Day after day I come across your NPP additions accompanied by your phenomenal number of edits. I'm afraid we're just no longer being taken seriously by those who should be supporting our efforts. It seems to me the project needs a new boost of enthusiasm from younger participants such as those who have supported the recent changes and all the other new Wikipedians who have joined the project over the past few months. Let's hope they can live up to our expectations. I'll always remember your original proposal, Roger, about targeting more women as a fantastic idea which as you know is the reason I have devoted the last nine years to trying to move forward on women and their works. To some extent we have progressed but we need new incentives if we are to make any significant impact. I have not completely abandoned the project but will no longer be creating new articles. @Ipigott, I (a not-so-young editor) am very sorry to read this news and admit that I, too, found the number of changes and how they were introduced and implemented most disturbing. Editing is supposed to be enjoyable and some of the past months has been anything but, until I shared my concerns with Rosiestep by email. I was on the point of walking away from the May prep myself until I realised that WIR as a whole and the editors led by @Rosiestep and @Victuallers need the behind-the-scenes editors to make our Event pages and so on to keep the project alive. I will miss your active participation at WIR, you will always be welcome back. I wish you well for your future editing. @Oronsay: I too wondered if I should discuss these matters by email but I finally decided it would be more useful to comment here and on mu own talk page where anyone interested would be able to follow my reasoning. I have really appreciated your regular involvement in helping to firm up our month-by-month events and to update the WiR main WiR page with the latest figures from Humaniki on the status of women's biographies (now 19.81%) as they become available. I very much hope that many of the more recent "recruits" will be ready to provide support too, in particular by helping to increase membership of the project and assisting those who join. Less critical are the additions to other WiR pages such as Showcase (which attracts less than nine page views a day and has had no other contributors for quite some time). As for Research and Press, these items each receive only one page view a day but I thought it was useful to maintain a record in connection with the history of the project. So the only really significant change is my decision not to create any more new articles about women. Here I notified the project some time ago that I would no longer be creating so many and in fact in April I created only four biographies and one list. On the other hand, I will continue to help with articles created by other editors, in particular SusunW and Balance person, and will always be available to offer advice or assistance to anyone in need of assistance. I hope this clarifies my position and helps to make things look less dramatic. I am pleased to see, Rosie, that there has now been significant support on Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 April 29 for not deleting all our original event templates. There seems to be increasing interest in ensuring that technical changes are first discussed in consultation with content editors rather than just with those primarily interested in technical issues. This is an important step in the right direction.--Ipigott (talk) 13:39, 2 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240502133900","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Ipigott-20240502133900-Ipigott-20240501061000","replies":["c-SusunW-20240502140200-Ipigott-20240502133900"]}}-->
I was surprised but not surprised to see your message Ian. (Sorry I didn't reply before now, but it was my birthday yesterday and I was offline from the day before.) WIR will not be the same with you gone, but I respect your decision. I agree with Oronsay that "the number of changes and how they were introduced and implemented [is] most disturbing". But, I think on a project where anyone can edit, that is always an issue. For the most part, I just try to stay in my writing bubble and ignore the politics and technical changes until I am forced to deal with them. The feeling is mutual, Rosie. We should certainly stay connected. I thought I had identified an important new activity with OKA but it very much looks as if it will now be brought to a standstill. Not a very successful month for me so far but let's see how everything works out. One thing is quite certain: there's always more than enough for me to do on Wikipedia. But if you feel like working on other topics from time to time, that might indeed be fun. I was also considering contributing to Elit more intensively. It would be good to see more activity there.--Ipigott (talk) 16:28, 6 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240506162800","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Ipigott-20240506162800-Rosiestep-20240506154700","replies":[]}}-->
New wikiprojects
Ipigott, I think OKA will be fine, and I'd be happy to work on this with you and others. It does need a helping hand with workflows... something you and I have quite a bit of experience at WiR. While being required to go through AfC is an extra step, I don't think it's a bad thing. I actually think it's good, if it will prove the worth of the articles in general (e.g., they aren't about companies or BLP), and OKA in particular. What's missing is the on-wiki info. I get why OKA wanted to stay under the radar initially, but I don't think that concept will serve it well at this point as it's matured past its start-up phase. I think it's time for it to become a wikiproject where there's a defined mainpage, talkpage, table (e.g., like this), article talkpage template, etc. But I won't push it. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:55, 6 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240506165500","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20240506165500-New_wikiprojects","replies":["c-Ipigott-20240506172100-Rosiestep-20240506165500"]}}-->
That sounds very positive, Rosie. As for listing their drafts, they could simply be added to the bottom of this list where all their new articles/additions appear. I for one would be only too happy to promote their drafts to mainspace (without necessarily going through AfC procedures). I would be far happier to help with OKA translations than with the many other paid creations I am asked to review. (For some reason I have gained a reputation for helping with these.) If the OKA editors simply list them in their user space (User:ABC/new article name) it will be easy to identify them. As far as I know, even with COI that should still be possible. Up to now, I have only needed to make major changes to one article. Nearly all of them have been well up to standard from the start although minor changes to the lead are frequently needed. So if we can put something together to help them along these lines, there should be clear benefits for both OKA and the English wiki.--Ipigott (talk) 17:21, 6 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240506172100","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Ipigott-20240506172100-Rosiestep-20240506165500","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20240506165500-Ipigott-20240506172100"]}}-->

Ipigott, IMHO ... I don't think the list you link to is the way to go any longer. The days of OKA "staying under the radar" have passed; it is no longer a newbie community. The AfC requirement is evidence that it's time to be more aligned with EN-WP processes. In order for it to continue flourishing -and I truly support that- I believe it's time for OKA to have a more mature integration into EN-WP, e.g., articles should be listed on-wiki on a WikiProject subpage. It could be a subpage of WP:WikiProject Intertranswiki, or a subpage of a newly-create WP:WikiProject OKA. It could have components of this and/or be in table format like this. This requires the commitment of its leadership. I'd be glad to help as an advisor in an on-wiki capacity as time allows. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 6 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240506174500","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":6,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20240506174500-Ipigott-20240506175000","replies":["c-Ipigott-20240506175600-Rosiestep-20240506174500"]}}-->
Yes, you are probably right about the need for a completely new setup for OKA. If we organize an Intertranswiki task force, the coordinator will have to bring things in line. you click on "story" below the image, and if the day passed, you scroll up ;) - similarly, for the pics you click on "places", and scroll up - if that doesn't help look for Hedi Schoop, pic from 1957. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240516132300","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":9,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20240516132300-Rosiestep-20240516112300","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20240516132800-Gerda_Arendt-20240516132300"]}}-->

I heard lovely chamber music today, and the DYK mentions "profoundly human" singing (that you can watch), connected to a place where we'll sing in September - sorry about the misleading description: in the story, there's the link to the complete year, and within that, you can scroll (or add the date as day and three digit month, such as _14_May for the cat). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:37, 17 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240517223700","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":11,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20240517223700-Rosiestep-20240516132800","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20240518120300-Gerda_Arendt-20240517223700"]}}-->

Well, proud, no, that was rather easy, - I'm proud that I noticed that Pentecost Sunday in 1714 was Pentecost Monday in 2024. OTD insists that it has to be the day (20 May) not the occasion, but this matched, sort of. I am proud of today's story which mentions a concert I loved to hear (DYK, and the memorable discussion is on the talk) and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD, - that was little discussion but a lot of sourcing and expanding work yesterday. And then I noticed today that I had forgotten to write the article about Schönberg's Op. 1 (now at least begun) and the translation of the baritone into German ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 22 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240522152700","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20240522152700-May_music","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20240523195500-Gerda_Arendt-20240522152700"]}}-->

Hi Rosie. In connection with OKA, today I've come across articles by the paid editor Mathieulalie. From here and from M's talk page, you can see that submitting drafts to AfC seems to be working quite well. I think Liz probably deleted the articles I moved because I am not an established member of AfC. I think it will therefore be better if from now on I discontinue any involvement with OKA as I seem to be creating problems for their members. I still think it would be useful to have an OKA task force on Intertranswiki but you are probably the best person to take this forward.--Ipigott (talk) 16:50, 22 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240522165000","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ipigott-20240522165000-Paid_editors","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20240522172200-Ipigott-20240522165000"]}}-->
Ipigott, I think you've been as supportive as you could be with intertranswiki article improvement. The paid editing issue is really complicated, and I totally get why you want to step back from involvement with OKA articles. I enjoy being involved in conversations related to intertranswiki article translations, and for that reason, I joined and continue to support WP:WikiProject Intertranswiki. Where I draw a red line is involvement with paid editing issues as I think others have more experience with this, and, ergo, are better suited to do the needful follow-up. I would be supportive of an OKA task force to WP Intertranswiki if the OKA leadership goes in that direction. It's their decision, of course. On my part, it was only a suggestion so that paid editing discussions could be compartmentalized separate from translations themselves, e.g., if OKA weren't a paid editing organization, there'd be no need for the task force. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240522172200","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20240522172200-Ipigott-20240522165000","replies":[]}}-->

I am impressed! - On the occasion of your 17 years, Graham is turning a barrel-organ, - I uploaded a particularly happy pic, with the consent of his mother. I can also offer a brandnew GA, about a woman, - the one that was supposed to be deleted ;) - I took a pic of a black cat, but don't like it enough. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 4 June 2024 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20240604211900","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20240604211900-Rosiestep-20240603161700","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20240606142500-Gerda_Arendt-20240604211900"]}}-->
