In reply to September: so after the last concert, I had to write about that wonderful young woman (in red!) who energetically embraced her cello, and found that not only had she been a student of the academy, but also just in September started teaching where she had studied before. I'll try to say some of that in her DYK, but hard to say in 200 chars. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 1 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221001133700","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20221001133700-October_music","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221001134700-Gerda_Arendt-20221001133700"]}}-->
Gerda Arendt, she certainly did stand out in that red dress. yes - the circus festival is run biennially but the last two years nothing because of the pandemic, and before, it was the job of the children's choir every four years, because of Catholic - Protestant alternation. Only, the new conductor has first to make a new children's choir. In case he succeeds, it was also the last time of me performing, unless I count just going for the fun of it and joining in the rounds. Rheingau Musik Festival is unique in the world, with all these historic venues. I am a bit proud of having helped it a bit in the beginning, when posters were hung by volunteers, and I once had to show the 3 buses carrying the Dresdner Kreuzchor from the Youth Hostel in Frankfurt to Marktkirche, Wiesbaden during rush hour, - this was in the 1980s, so the choir still from East Germany, and I remember the relief when we managed in time. - This year, they returned, because boys' choirs were one of the themes. That's why Thomanerchor came, for their one and only concert outside Thuringia, - so we were blessed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:04, 20 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221020150400","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20221020150400-Rosiestep-20221020145400","replies":[]}}-->

Gerda Arendt Yes. Most of the women I write about have black+white or sepia images, if any image at all. Take, for example, the article I wrote today: Edith Julia Griswold. Can't ascertain much about what she's wearing. I wonder how she chose that dress when she was preparing for her portrait sitting. She was a lawyer, so probably picked something subdued. I'm assuming it wasn't red, but I certainly don't know. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:06, 28 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221028210600","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":14,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221028210600-Gerda_Arendt-20221028190000","replies":["c-Gerda_Arendt-20221028211400-Rosiestep-20221028210600","c-Gerda_Arendt-20221030211700-Rosiestep-20221028210600"]}}-->

Hi Rosie. You have no doubt seen I've mentioned this on the WiR talk page. With all your high-level contacts, do you know of anyone who can either sort out the current problems so that they do not keep recurring or better still devise a new method of handling new registrations and maintaining active and inactive membership lists? Most of the names are in Category:WikiProject Women in Red members but only if members have included the WiR user box on thier user page. Before we run into any further problems, it would be good if we could also add this category to all of those on our mailing lists. Perhaps there's some easy way of doing this.--Ipigott (talk) 14:32, 12 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221012143200","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ipigott-20221012143200-Problems_with_the_Women_in_Red_membership_list","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221012161700-Ipigott-20221012143200"]}}-->
Hi Ian. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who can fix the issues associated with Project X's membership list. Except for Phabricator, to my knowledge, there's no centralized place on-wiki where one can log a technical issue that someone else will fix. Pinging @Headbomb and Tagishsimon who are more technical than I am. It may just be time to do away with the Project X's membership list, and move all the names (plus info) to a WiR subpage; this would be a lot of work but surely doable. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221012161700","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221012161700-Ipigott-20221012143200","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221012161700-Rosiestep-20221012161700"]}}-->

I realize you were one of the most enthusiastic supporters of the contest I had hoped to run to attract new members. In the meantime, one of our most constructive editors has expressed strong opposition for reasons I do not really understand. In any case, I've now announced on the Ideas page that there's no point in holding the contest until we can sort out our membership listings. This should probably be announced in our November invitation. Hope you agree.--Ipigott (talk) 14:32, 12 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221012143200","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ipigott-20221012143200-Problems_with_the_Women_in_Red_membership_list-1","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221012161700-Ipigott-20221012143200-1"]}}-->
I don't think we need to announce in our Nov invitation that we are not running a contest. Within the broad wiki movement, editors discuss contests ALL the time; postponing or not moving forward with something that's been under discussion is not unusual. If/When WiR is ready to run a contest and has the meetup page set up, I think it will be sufficient to make the announcement on the monthly invitation prepared at that time. Would you remind me please regarding what problems have been encountered with the contest, e.g. no one wants to apply for a grant? lack of technical know-how/support in setting it up (e.g., like Wikipedia Asia Month)? If yes to either of these, I'd be happy to reach out to one or more Chapters to see if they have the bandwidth to assist (ping Gamaliel). --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221012161700","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221012161700-Ipigott-20221012143200-1","replies":["c-Ipigott-20221012174900-Rosiestep-20221012161700"]}}-->
Thanks, Rosie, for responding to this. I really don't think it would be very instructive to go into the background on the contest. For me, what is far more important is the membership list. Perhaps we can wait a day or two to see if there are any more responses from those I pinged, but I really think we need to move away from the Project X approach. As Harej is not prepared to help us, I think we need to find another solution. Maybe you can find someone to help us along. For me, this is the most important matter in connection with Women in Red.--Ipigott (talk) 17:49, 12 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221012174900","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Ipigott-20221012174900-Rosiestep-20221012161700","replies":["c-Ipigott-20221013060600-Ipigott-20221012174900"]}}-->
I'm still waiting to hear from MarioGom who has not been active since the 11th but if there is no response over the next couple of days, I think we should replace the current registration box with a link to a new page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. It could be set up to list additions on a month-by-month basis, rather like our lists for new articles, etc. New members could simply add the four tildes and possibly express any special interests. This would at least ensure we are aware of new registrations. What do you think?--Ipigott (talk) 06:06, 13 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221013060600","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Ipigott-20221013060600-Ipigott-20221012174900","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221013112500-Ipigott-20221013060600","c-MarioGom-20221014102800-Ipigott-20221013060600"]}}-->
Ian, I think WiR is ready for the change. It would probably be good to write up all the steps that have to happen (project plan) on the WiR talkpage and give an opportunity for other editors to comment and/or volunteer to help. Effective date of November 1st? --Rosiestep (talk) 11:25, 13 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221013112500","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221013112500-Ipigott-20221013060600","replies":["c-Ipigott-20221013120300-Rosiestep-20221013112500"]}}-->
I was actually thinking of quite simply removing the current registration box and replacing it with a link to the New members page. Rather than listing the steps, I think it would be simpler to create a draft of that page and ask for comments on our main WiR talk page. Unless we receive further reactions, I don't think there's much more we can do. I'll wait another couple of days and then create a first draft of the page. I agree we should introduce the change on 1 November. I might need your assistance in displaying the new registration link in the top RH corner of the main WiR page. I think it would be sufficient to have a clickable box with "Join Women in Red", e.g. by replacing the current template:WPX member box by Join Women in Red linked to the new page, correctly positioned and with a slightly larger font size. That should not be too difficult.--Ipigott (talk) 12:03, 13 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221013120300","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":6,"id":"c-Ipigott-20221013120300-Rosiestep-20221013112500","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221013121700-Ipigott-20221013120300"]}}-->

This is all explained on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. I therefore think it can be deleted from the main page. While keeping close checks on membership since the beginning of the project, I have not experienced any dissatisfaction with our WiR membership category. For years it has been added automatically whenever users add the WiR user box. I'm not really worried about membership listings as (a) the old active member and non-active member lists can be preserved as archives and (b) we have the three mailing lists which contain the names of all those who have not specifically asked to be removed or who have removed their names themselves. Overall, I think we have a far better record of all those who have participated in the project than most other wikiprojects.--Ipigott (talk) 06:12, 19 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221019061200","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":9,"id":"c-Ipigott-20221019061200-Rosiestep-20221018160800","replies":[]}}-->

Ipigott, agree, the clickable looks fine. Hope it's visible enough so that those who wish to join, see it, click it, and add their names. ... new color for WiR nav template (#D0F0C0)
... new color for WiR nav template subsection (#F0FFF0)
In the meantime, I decided to change the WiR navigation template into shades of green (D0F0C0 and F0FFF0). ARoseWolf what do you think about these colors vs. what we were using (gray)? Also, do you prefer either of these green shades for the WiR mainpage infobox, instead of the #90EE90? Your expertise with color is so valuable. Am really interested in your point of view including if other options would be better. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:18, 18 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221018201800","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221018201800-Template:Women_in_Red_navigation","replies":["c-ARoseWolf-20221018203300-Rosiestep-20221018201800"]}}-->
I love red but shades of green do it for me. Ha! Seriously though, I think having them how they are is perfect. That Nav template looks so good now. Green is such a strong color. I've always heard "thriving, not just surviving" when I see it. It is the color of life's essence. Each color of the Rainbow means something to me. It's a part of who each of us is. I just share it with anyone willing to listen. It's not right, it's not wrong, it's just Asareel. I'm thankful I have an opportunity to share small tidbits of who I am with such amazing people here. Thank you, Rosie and you too Ipigott. Such beautiful eyes on that tabby. My eye color ranges from a lighter brown, especially around the edges to a darker brown in the center. I've never seen it but my daughter and family tell me when I'm really focused on something my entire eye color changes to a very dark brown (I say out loud what I type and my daughter just quipped "almost black, Mama."). shrugs Another Asareel'ism. --ARoseWolf20:56, 18 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221018205600","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":6,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20221018205600-Rosiestep-20221018204700","replies":["c-Ipigott-20221019063700-ARoseWolf-20221018205600"],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->
I agree with ARoseWolf that green gives a much more positive look to Navigation. In future, when we draw attention to the need to recruit new members, we can simply refer to the green navigation box at the top of the WiR page. @ARoseWolf and Ipigott, I'm so happy with your reactions. Back in the mid-1990s, when I was in school for my MBA, I took 1 or 2 classes in marketing, where I learned about the effects of color choices in marketing materials. I wish I had applied that learning -the positivity associated with green- before yesterday, but -you know what they say- better late than never. :)
There are a few more areas where WiR has been uses periwinkle blue (e.g., our monthly invitation; the very top of the WiR mainpage; etc.), and I think in time, we'll want to change them to green. But I think to leave that for another day. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:47, 19 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221019154700","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":8,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221019154700-Ipigott-20221019063700","replies":["c-ARoseWolf-20221019164400-Rosiestep-20221019154700"]}}-->
And we may determine that there may be other suitable colors to use in those instances. Colors are as positive as we allow them to be and I always leave room that they can mean different things to different people. I do believe, deep in our psyche, there are root meanings that we don't always understand. I have seen some have a visceral reaction to certain colors and that sometimes denotes a traumatic experience they had. We associate colors with memories, thoughts, experiences. For me, I have two competing sides to this. One side associates words to colors and colors to tastes and smells. The other side associates colors to states of being, places we are, if that makes sense. More or less our state of being in that moment. Not feelings, which do tie into that but more as a consequence of our state. It's complicated and probably too much for a discussion on Wikipedia but it's me. Quite an enigma. --ARoseWolf16:44, 19 October 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221019164400","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":9,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20221019164400-Rosiestep-20221019154700","replies":[],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->

SusunW (and pagestalkers), while doing some gnome work on articles in Category:19th-century American women physicians, I came across the biography of Susan La Flesche Picotte, an "Omaha Indigenous physician and reformer". will tell him at the big concert on Saturday, - I wrote about his mother, and it's all puzzle, I found not a single bio anywhere, no date and place and name of birth. I can ask him, but spoken son's word is no reliable source :) - I didn't see her often, yes for the wedding, - last time was after a concert when piano pieces dedicated to G.A. and E.W. were played, and she said that mine was more beautiful :) - well, there's no not W in music, while G and A sound interesting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:17, 3 November 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221103151700","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20221103151700-Rosiestep-20221103150200","replies":["c-ARoseWolf-20221103155400-Gerda_Arendt-20221103151700"]}}-->

Gerda Arendt, not often that I create a woman's biography associated with opera in some way, but here's one, Mary Lewis Langworthy, who did a lot of things in her day, including writing the libretto for Elijah, a religious opera in 6 scenes, being a dramatization of Mendelssohn's oratorio (1921). --Rosiestep (talk) 19:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221105191200","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20221105191200-November_music","replies":["c-Gerda_Arendt-20221106090100-Rosiestep-20221105191200"]}}-->

rest, sort of, slept twice on the flight to friends in the U.S., now in jet lag, morning coffee when it would have been noon yesterday, - met a black cat when arriving in the dark, but too fast and dark to photograph, - perhaps I'll get a chance over the week here. - All three concerts were of the "once in a lifetime"-sort and required travelling as well which was more exhausting than listening which was pure joy for all. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:07, 9 November 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221109120700","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":11,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20221109120700-Rosiestep-20221108121300","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221109124400-Gerda_Arendt-20221109120700"]}}-->

Today, we sing for a Marian feast, I learned that Yvonne Ciannella died, the soprano who impressed me in my first night at the opera, and as she died in March, sadly no Main page reverence is possible, - at least she had a good DYK, at a time when opera singers were considered interesting. I'm proud today that Christiane Hörbiger made it to that corner, and happy that we celebrate the birthday of Jean Sibelius again. - I heard an excellent Christmas concert yesterday, by Tenebrae, and a short excerpt of only the women singing "Deo gracias" is also linked from my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:35, 8 December 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221208203500","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20221208203500-Rosiestep-20221206151300","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221208234100-Gerda_Arendt-20221208203500"]}}-->

Thank you. Ferrier: I nominated her for a repeated TFA on her birthday last year, but then saw that the 110th birthday was this year. However, then we had instead a singer with a birthday who is still alive, and next year there's something else, - a bit chilling to make plans for 2024 :) - Only today I realised that she sang that premiere already between cancer treatments, and the composer ranked the collaboration (with her and his partner) the best of his life. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 15 December 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221215212200","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":10,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20221215212200-Rosiestep-20221215211500","replies":[]}}-->

It's getting close to my time to hibernate. I don't know exactly when that will be but I will thoroughly miss your cat pictures. I imagine I have a about two weeks but our fuel gauge is really the indicator for that. We have to especially conserve fuel for January and February which are our coldest and harshest months and we have burned a lot of fuel the past two months due to the waning daylight and my daughters insatiable desire for Youtube videos and movies. It's always hard to leave and it's possible I might can sneak on a few times a month during that time but I believe the break always does me some good. It gives me time to evaluate the past year's experiences here and really retune my understanding of what our purpose, my purpose is on Wikipedia. --ARoseWolf17:28, 15 December 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221215172800","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20221215172800-Getting_close","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221215180900-ARoseWolf-20221215172800"],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->

The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendritestalk \\ 18:36, 22 December 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221222183600","author":"Rhododendrites","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rhododendrites-20221222183600-Happy_holidays!","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20221223144100-Rhododendrites-20221222183600"]}}-->

Dear Rosiestep/Archive 62,
Christmas Greetings and a Happy New Year 2023,
You are humbly invited to organize the Feminism and Folklore 2023 writing competition from February 1, 2023, to March 31, 2023. This year, Feminism and Folklore will focus on feminism, women's issues, and gender-focused topics for the project, with a Wiki Loves Folklore gender gap focus and a folk culture theme on Wikipedia.
You can help Wikipedia's coverage of folklore from your area by writing or improving articles about things like folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, women and queer folklore figures, folk game athletes, women in mythology, women warriors in folklore, witches and witch hunting, fairy tales, and more. Users can help create new articles, expand or translate from a list of suggested articles.
Organisers are requested to work on the following action items to sign up their communities for the project:
Create a page for the contest on the local wiki.
Set up a fountain tool or dashboard.
Create the local list and mention the timeline and local and international prizes.
Request local admins for site notice.
Link the local page and the fountain/dashboard link on the meta project page.
This year we would be supporting the community's financial aid for Internet and childcare support. This would be provided for the local team including their jury and coordinator team. This support is opt-in and non mandatory. Kindly fill in this Google form and mark a mail to [email protected] with the subject line starting as [Stipend] Name or Username/Language. The last date to sign up for internet and childcare aid from our team is 20th of January 2023, We encourage the language coordinators to sign up their community on this link by the 25th of January 2023.
Learn more about the contest and prizes on our project page. Feel free to contact us on our meta talk page or by email us if you need any assistance.
