While I'm delighted to see another article on a forgotten Milwaukee reformer, the 19th-century materials you borrowed from have a coy and playful tone quite unsuitable for an encyclopedia article. I would suggest you join me in turning the cuteness into straightforward prose. Rosie, Thank you for the sweet comment on my talk page. I have always felt that connection with you too. Our interactions were few but it isn't necessarily the words that are written that speak the most. Sometimes it's the unwritten that means so much more. I have always felt your depth. It has inspired and awed me. You are such a remarkable person and a beautiful woman. I have looked up to you from the moment I joined WiR. I am not an amazing writer. I keep journals full of grammatical errors detailing my life experiences, sometimes as they happened or shortly after. I paint, well enough for myself and it's something I can do with my daughter that gives her a love for colors. I play music, that my ears enjoy but the biggest enjoyment is seeing my family dance to the songs I play. I do sing, my voice is something I have become accustomed to and may make others cringe at times. My point is that the impact we have on others is often times unspoken. You never had to speak much. I hear you all the time. So when you do speak it has that much more impact. I am convinced you are one reason I am still alive. Your love for me. Your compassion and empathy. Your words spoken and unspoken, all I have heard. And it is beautiful. I will always cherish you. --ARoseWolf15:01, 25 July 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220725150100","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20220725150100-Thank_you","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20220725180500-ARoseWolf-20220725150100"],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->
ARoseWolf, I love how we understand each other. Did I ever mention to you that I, too, paint? Or, more precisely, I used to paint and want to get back at it, just haven't nudged myself to do so. I see images, when I'm out and about, or in a magazine, or whatever, and I think to myself, I want to paint something like that... not "that" in its exact form, but something abstractly like that. Anyway, I want you to know that even if you're not "on" Wikipedia, I'll still think about you, and if you return, even if for a short visit, please ping me. All the best to you, wherever your path may take you... --Rosiestep (talk) 18:05, 25 July 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220725180500","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20220725180500-ARoseWolf-20220725150100","replies":[]}}-->

Hi Gerda. Missed you! I see you've been busy. Hoping that the hike in the Swiss Alps was awesome for you. Funeral with flowers on a bench... did you know that I take photos of benches everywhere I go? I must have 100s of them, which I mean to upload to WikiCommons just never get around to it. Listened to some Rilke poetry on Youtube as I wasn't familiar with his work; lovely. Thanks for sharing; really do appreciate and enjoy it. I always learn something. Without purposeful intention, I worked on temperance-related articles this month. There were women's biogs and a couple of men, a U.S. and an Irish union, a French society, a Chicago temple, New Hampshire seminary, and a Chilean college. I listened to a lot of music this month at various local outdoor venues (my partner plays trumpet). Very enjoyable. Occasionally sat through rehearsals, enjoying the grass under my feet, while finishing Andy Weir's book, Project Hail Mary (music notes are in the storyline!). --Rosiestep (talk) 08:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220729085500","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20220729085500-Gerda_Arendt-20220728220800","replies":["c-Gerda_Arendt-20220729091100-Rosiestep-20220729085500"]}}-->

Hi Rosie. I realize you are tied up with all kinds of administrative tasks and preparations for Wikimania but I thought it would be useful to sound you out on how we can revive some of the old enthusiasm for Women in Red. As you have probably noticed, over the past year our metrics have been falling steadily from 2,867 new biographies in July 2021 to some 1,300 in July 2022. For the past month, the monthly percentage of women's biographies has remained steady at 19.30%. Victuallers has been doing his best to rally the troops but although there has been increased interest in Women in Red on the social media and indeed more views of our project page, this has not been reflected in any real progress on article creation. Over recent months, for some reason there seems to have been more interest in #1day1woman than in the other priorities we have selected for month-by-month attention. For this reason, I have been wondering whether a contest based specifically on this priority might not encourage wider participation. I was thinking in terms of an open-ended competition based on the maximum number of consecutive days individual editors (including new members of the project) could contribute one woman a day. In collaboration with WomenArtistUpdates and perhaps Megalibrarygirl who was behind the original concept, we could arrange awards for 5, 10, 20 and 30 days and even keep the contest running for more than one month for those who survive that long. I would nevertheless like to benefit from your reactions and take account of any other ways in which you think we could revive enthusiasm. It seems to me we also need to provide more incentives to those able to attract more members of our project but let's take one thing at a time. So as not to sound too negative about all this, I should point out that partly as a result of Women in Green, we have had 32 new GAs on women and their works in June and 16 in July. We've also been doing well with DYKs with 71 in July, the highest number since August 2021. I look forward to any reactions you might have before making any suggestions on our Ideas pages or on our WiR talk page but I do feel we need to take some form of effective action.--Ipigott (talk) 15:52, 5 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220805155200","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ipigott-20220805155200-Need_for_incentives_for_Women_in_Red","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20220805171300-Ipigott-20220805155200"]}}-->
Hi Ian. Thank you for your thoughtful proposal. I've noticed the same regarding metrics. I really like the idea of a #1day1woman contest with barnstar awards for 5, 10, 20 and 30 days. But I'd suggest not stopping there; let's make a grand-prize goal of 100, as a collaboration with m:100wikidays. As you can see on that page, I participated in 100wikidays twice and I can tell you, it takes quite the effort. My first start was at Wikimania 2016, when I was seated across the table from the 100wikidays founder and decided to go for it just based on her enthusiasam. I participated again a few years later, focused on uploading images rather than writing articles. Honestly, I actually thought about participating again in 100wikidays (article creation) starting this Thursday, the first day of Wikimania 2022, but I haven't made a solid commitment yet, nor have I thought about focusing on women's biographies. But now I will give it more thought! I think it would be great if you suggest such a contest on the WiR talkpage and see what people think. P.S. If Women in Red had a page on Meta, I'd suggest we facilitate the contest there and allow editors to participate in any language Wikipedia. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 17:13, 5 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220805171300","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20220805171300-Ipigott-20220805155200","replies":["c-Ipigott-20220805182000-Rosiestep-20220805171300"]}}-->
I was sure I could rely on you for some constructive ideas, Rosie. I distinctly remember your former involvement in #1day1women (as well as in earlier versions of Women Writers) and am happy to see you share future opportunities. I'll wait a day or two to see if there are any further reactions here but will then post suggestions on the other sites. And while I'm here, I would like to share with you some other good news. You may remember that I was involved with GLAM-related EU research projects in the late 1990s and early 2000s when I also gained a reputation for supporting women participants. For the first time since I have been active on Wikipedia since around 2006, today I had the pleasure of welcoming someone who actually remembers me, User talk:Nferranf, a Spanish girl who was in one of my projects back in 2003 or so and who is now involved at the University of Barcelona in research on gender studies. It's a small world and it's good to see there is an element of continuity. At the very least, some of my background credentials can at least be confirmed.--Ipigott (talk) 18:20, 5 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220805182000","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Ipigott-20220805182000-Rosiestep-20220805171300","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20220805183400-Ipigott-20220805182000"]}}-->

Ipigott, Rosiestep, I wonder if many of our members are working on larger projects at the moment. It's possible people are involved in overarching articles like the kind I've been working on with women's suffrage or what SusunW does with working on improving articles. Working on stuff like that affects numbers, too. Yes, Sue, the efforts you and Susun are making are of course appreciated and I have mentioned the quality improvements in GAs and DYKs. Furthermore, assessment stats for the popular WikiProject Women Writers show that only a quarter of articles are stubs (even less for Women Scientists and Women's History) whereas over 50% of articles on the EN wiki are stubs, including biographies. Part of the reduction in new women's biographies can certainly be assigned to the general fall in article creation. From the table in Wikipedia:Size of Wikipedia, it can be seen that for the year up to 1 January 2016, 363,000 new articles were created in the EN wiki compared to only 211,700 for 2021. Nevertheless, it is the fall in the increase of female vs male biographies which is most concerning. Our overall aim is to ensure a continuing increase in the proportion of female biographies as listed in Wikidata. At the moment, progress is minimal. I believe that if we can succeed in sensitizing editors to this situation, we can start to encourage more attention to article creation, possibly supported by a #1day1woman type contest. But I'm open to further comments and suggestions.--Ipigott (talk) 06:24, 6 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220806062400","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":7,"id":"c-Ipigott-20220806062400-Rosiestep-20220806033600","replies":["c-Adam_Cuerden-20220806093100-Ipigott-20220806062400"]}}-->
It's probably worth remembering, though, that it gets harder to make progress as progress is made, and that, like a Red Queen's race, you have to run very hard just to avoid going backwards. I think we all get that my focus is on quality rather than quantity, but that said, I still try to focus on article creation. The thing for me is I follow where the article leads, so for example, last month, when working on Eunice Foote (for our climate change and WIG's science editathon), I discovered Elizabeth Wagner Reed, who recovered Foote and 22 other women scientists, then I worked through those to make sure that all but 1, whose name was too common to differentiate sources, had articles. Beyond Foote, none of the others fit our categories, except 1day1woman, so it becomes the catchall. Not that I am uninterested in the monthly categories, just the way it pans out, because of the way I let the article lead me to the next woman. Recruiting new writers is always a problem. Not just because there is a learning curve to writing on here, but because behaviors make it difficult and real life has demands. It seems to me that the way to make real progress in recruiting is through academics. If we can convince them that it's a worthwhile project (and teach them that writing on here is the opposite of what they do in their jobs), they have access to tons of students who could become contributors. That's a great suggestion, SusunW, but how do we find them and encourage them to become involved? Perhaps we need support from some of those already involved in gender studies and the like to spread the word. Is there a network where we could encourage someone to state our case? Or could you put together something yourself which we could get Victuallers or others to include on the social networks?--Ipigott (talk) 15:35, 6 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220806153500","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":10,"id":"c-Ipigott-20220806153500-SusunW-20220806141400","replies":["c-SusunW-20220806160600-Ipigott-20220806153500"]}}-->
Well I do it by telling them about what we do. I often write academics for access to source materials. I tell them about the project and the women usually respond with sourcing and information. I have never received any shared information from any male academic I have written to, and only once even had a reply from a male academic, which basically came across as "thanks for contacting me, I'm not interested in helping you, because this is my topic". If they want to know how they can get involved, I refer them to Rosie. Perhaps she can tell you how she hooks them into Wiki-edu. Literally, it is just a matter of asking, IMO. Thanks, SusunW for referring them to me. Typically, we schedule a call where we talk about the lack of women's representation on Wikipedia. When they ask about editing training and support, I tell them about WikiEdu, and give them a point of contact. The WikiEdu teaching modules are best-suited for this. The professor commonly schedules me as a guest speaker halfway into their course to focus on explaining the reader+contributor+content gender gaps, society's role in Wikipedia's gaps, Women in Red, etc.; even with ~1.5 hours for my part, it's barely enough time when also including students' questions. I do enjoy it, though, very much. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:48, 6 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220806164800","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":12,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20220806164800-SusunW-20220806160600","replies":[]}}-->
SusunW, I was thinking a bit about what you wrote, "I let the article lead me to the next woman". What about a future WiR event that encourages editors to add more "breadcrumbs" within articles: redlinking women's names that aren't already redlinked in existing articles? While this would not be a "typical" WiR event as it doesn't directly encourge the creation of a new article, it might be interesting to try it as a long-term campaign to see if, eventually, some redlinks become blue. What the editor would indicate on the editathon page would be that on article Foo, they added redlinks for Woman1, Woman2, and Woman3. We already have hundreds of "redlists", but this would be a different way of informing people that there's a content gap. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:57, 6 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220806165700","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20220806165700-Need_for_incentives_for_Women_in_Red","replies":["c-SusunW-20220806170500-Rosiestep-20220806165700","c-Ipigott-20220809103700-Rosiestep-20220806165700"]}}-->
Or we could do a links-in-the-chain, write one article which turns up a redlink, which is then written and turns up another, etc., to see how long a chain can be made. That might be really interesting. I'm really sorry to hear, SusunW, that your male contacts have been so difficult. While WikiEdu is great for the Unites States, I wonder if there are any similar projects in Europe and the rest of the world. I think it would be useful to put together a set of recommendations on how to encourage academics to provide support. As for redlinks, I've noticed that some editors avoid redlinking women's names, perhaps afraid that they may have to create more articles. This also occurs in lists of award winners and sporting champions where names are often just included in normal black type. I don't know if a WiR editathon devoted solely to this would be effective but I certainly think more redlinked women's names in our articles would help us along. Use of "ill" links to biographies in other languages is also a help if they exist.--Ipigott (talk) 11:02, 7 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220807110200","author":"Ipigott","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Ipigott-20220807110200-SusunW-20220806170500","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20220807111500-Ipigott-20220807110200"]}}-->

Hi @Rosiestep:
Thank you for adding the paragraph on the Duxhurst Industrial Farm Colony to the Reigate page. Unfortunately, although Reigate was the nearest town to Duxhurst at the time of its foundation, it is not actually in Reigate. (The sources that I have been able to check state that it is near Reigate.) In fact, Duxhurst is in the Salfords and Sidlowcivil parish and the nearest settlement is Sidlow.
Would you be happy for me to move the paragraph from the Reigate page to the Sidlow page please?

Hi there - I proposed some updates to the David Copperfield article back in February here. Since the Request edits queue seems to be stalled and you’re a member of WP:LAS, I was wondering if you’d be interested in reviewing my proposals? I can’t do it myself because of a COI. Ha! That's so cute. Reminds me of my Persephone but less indignant than her. She put up with my crazy for so many years...alone. I put up with her disapproval of my wild and free spirited nature. I feel as though I may have scarred her for life, especially my overuse of butterfly wings on her. She's getting lazy and overweight off the fish we feed her now. And she gets spoiled by my nephews. I may have to encourage a local bear to put her in training or perhaps introduce her to the sled team. I wonder what disasters would occur on that adventure. --ARoseWolf15:47, 30 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220830154700","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20220830154700-Rosiestep-20220830152500","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20220830161200-ARoseWolf-20220830154700"],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->
ARoseWolf, Persephone sounds like quite the cat! But, of course, they all are in their unique ways. My tuxies (sisters) are 15.5 years old. They'd be scared witless if they saw a bear or even a sled team. Dogs go woof! LOL! We have deer on the property and their presence doesn't phase the cats; they just look at them with calmness. Their preferred entertainment includes the wild turkeys, birds of all feathers, butterflies, and the occasional lizards who make their way on the window screens. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:12, 30 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220830161200","author":"Rosiestep","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Rosiestep-20220830161200-ARoseWolf-20220830154700","replies":["c-ARoseWolf-20220830162600-Rosiestep-20220830161200"]}}-->
She absolutely holds Little Jack, my overactive and exceedingly giddy lead husky, in highest disdain. I was going to retire LJ last year but the replacement lead is taking a little longer to train so I may have to go through another winter. I simply love the multicolored eyes. We do see a lot more of that, especially in our husky's as they are a specifically mixed breed. It's not all that common in our Malamute's which are purebred. Just in case anyone is interested it's called Heterochromia. Our husky's are used primarily on tight trails or if we need to utilize speed. Our Malamutes are utilized for freight hauls as they are bred for their strength. Both breeds love sledding and take their role serious. I owe my life, a few times, to our teams over the years. I have a very tight bond with my team. Each one of us have our own team and while our trainer initiates the dog's into receiving commands and learning the trails the real fun begins when he works with us and our team in learning our voice commands. The dogs pick up on tones and pitches. It's a deeply personal bonding for me because my entire life has been about wavelengths, tones and pitches of sounds which tell me a story in musical notes and colors. I relate to them in this way. Anytime we introduce a new team member we go out for days and the only sounds these dogs hear are the other dogs, nature around us and the human musher. It's really a beautifully intricate dance. --ARoseWolf14:58, 1 September 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220901145800","author":"ARoseWolf","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-ARoseWolf-20220901145800-Rosiestep-20220901143600","replies":["c-Panini!-20220907152700-ARoseWolf-20220901145800"],"displayName":"ARose"}}-->

Awww, Rosie, you will continuously be in my thoughts until those health and personal issues are, hopefully, whisked away by a stiff north wind. Who knows, if I blow hard enough maybe I can start one coming your way. That or lose consciousness from lack of oxygen. (lol) One Summer in Cali was enough for me. I'm a snow and ice kind of girl. SusunW, okay, so maybe a Summer visit then. Here's to putting the sandals away for Winter and wildflower salads in Summer. @ARoseWolf and SusunW, every time I see a note from you two, I perk up. You are my people! #wikilove. I like it cold sometimes. I like it hot sometimes. Same same, every time I see y'all names it makes me smile. We have summer for 10 months a year and then probably what y'all would call spring for 2 months, 50s-60s. Too cold for me. We do get as high as the 60's in Summer. I look forward to seeing your names and hearing your experiences. I get a lot of time to myself, as you might imagine. We are supposed to receive some snow this weekend possibly. We'll have to see how the weather patterns develop but it looks like maybe our first "winter" snow. Not expected to be much with it. Enjoy vacation! - The rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto (my brother played in the orchestra), and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:38, 14 September 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220914173800","author":"Gerda Arendt","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Gerda_Arendt-20220914173800-September_music","replies":["c-Rosiestep-20220918044500-Gerda_Arendt-20220914173800"]}}-->

Gerda Arendt, very nice, Like as the hart; also enjoyed learning about James O'Donnell (organist). Wish I could have watched the funeral services yesterday but was travelling back home. While I'm so happy to be back home and am ready to catch up with things, I'm not at full speed yet. I had a medical issue while traveling and now need to balance what I do with resting. O dear, best wishes, especially for health, but also the luggage. The full livestream is linked from the bottom of the piece's article, and now also for the other one, Who shall separate us?. Why the camera leaves the choir during a world premiere, to look at the vaults and flowers, is not for me to understand. - The conductor going to Yale: a friend studied there and performed in their Hymnen, and was please to find that performance mentioned - by Jerome Kohl.
