Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of English Heritage properties, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Battlefield (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean.." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Circa

Whilst I agree that WP:MOSDATE states that c. is preferred over circa, this only applies to the visual content on Wikipedia. The Persondata template provides meta data for automated bots and the consensus is that a specific key word ie circa is the better choice. Actually, the preferred key word in this instance would be about but my editing software just expands the abbreviation.

Wikipedia is benefiting from my esoteric project as I am taking the trouble to fix the thousands of inconsistencies that my software has highlighted. However, as I am only personally interested in actual dates, I can not be bothered to argue about the use of c. or circa! I have left the article with the c. in the template but as it shows up as an error someone else may come along and change it! Periglio (talk) 09:02, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment and my sincere apologies. If this is the case, I will be using circa rather than c. in the Persondata dates from now on and have restored your edit to the article in question, George Boleyn, 2nd Viscount Rochford.Madame Bonheur (talk) 21:20, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May 2014 disambig contest: let's do it again!

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! I personally will be aiming to lead the board next month, but for anyone who thinks they can put in a better effort, I will give a $10 Amazon gift card to any editor who scores more disambiguation points in May. Also, I will be setting up a one-day contest later in the month, and will try to set up more prizes and other ways to make this a fun and productive month. Cheers! bd2412 T 18:49, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Persondata

Wow, you are the first anybody that I know who uses persondata. I've got a RFC written up, but haven't submitted it yet. I've asked a couple of people to look at it. It is located User:Bgwhite/Sandbox. Any comments or changes you see that needs to be made are very welcome. I'm not the real smart one when it comes to get info out of Wikipedia, Andy is the one extremely smart one. So, he's the one to ask about your work at User:Periglio/Persondata. Bgwhite (talk) 05:39, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It should be possible to build such lists from Infoboxes (or Wikidata, but that's less useful for checking content on this site). Bear in mind that your lists won't help us with cases where the persondata is different to that visible in the article. Also, please redirect the talk page of that page to this talk page. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:18, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
From my own experience, Persondata is the best source for a database of notable people despite its many faults. There are too many variations within infoboxes and the date templates making the process much more complicated. I agree that Wikidata is the way to go, but I have not seen any explanations on how the wikidata would be kept accurate and up to date. Josh Brody is a recent addition to Wikipedia, but no dates have appeared on Wikidata. Yashiki Takajin has two dates of death on Wikidata.
I used the data for my own personal, and admittedly trivia project. The point I want to make is that Wikipedia has an easy accessible database of over 1 million people. It is data available for serious research projects. Why delete it? Wikidata worries me as it is detached from the main Wikipedia project, and not subject to the same scrutiny. Persondata, revisted

Hi, Periglio. I am aware you were part of the group of 6 or 7 editors who made the judgment that there was no further practical means for transferring usable and accurate information from the English Wikipedia's Persondata templates. I also know that you expressed some trepidation about remaining usable information during the pending Village Pump RfC for the immediate bot removal of all remaining Persondata templates. Would you be willing to revisit your original decision and discuss an alternative plan for the continued manual transfer of accurate and usable elements of Persondata to Wikidata during an extended period of deprecation, say, 6 to 12 months? If you are receptive to such a discussion, I have some proposed details of such a plan to share. Thank you for your consideration. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:32, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
