I noticed you haven't edit Stove for a few weeks now, even though you have sign it up at the WP:30 kB drive. What's the hold up? @CactiStaccingCrane: Will probably withdraw. There are many more things that I want to remove from that article than add, but doing so would put me in a worse position for the drive. Besides, can't find any sources. I realized, the drive is sorta flawed, since it rewards only additions, not actually improving articles. Besides, the articles in the drive aren't even short: Stove has x3 the amount of prose of the GA I just promoted. Broad topics don't even need to be long, since they usually just have WP:SUMMARYSTYLE summaries. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 01:12, 9 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220809011200","author":"PerfectSoundWhatever","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-PerfectSoundWhatever-20220809011200-CactiStaccingCrane-20220808234400","replies":["c-CactiStaccingCrane-20220809094900-PerfectSoundWhatever-20220809011200"]}}-->
In practice, yes, I would often delete a large portion of junk from the article before adding content to it. I agree that this is a big flaw of the drive. I feel I should give a more detailed explanation as to my concern over this. Specifically, I was thinking of when I did the same thing at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ifnord#Oppose; I made the first oppose comment due to lack of content creation (which is a consistent position I've held over many years, with an essay explaining it). This didn't stop the candidate retiring from Wikipedia shortly after the RfA was closed as unsuccessful. (Also see my comment at User talk:Ifnord#Blueshift). Even if if I don't support an RfA candidate (I haven't decided on this one at present and want to see answers to the questions before I make my mind up), I want them to be absolutely sure it's nothing personal and it's not a rejection of them as a person - some editors just don't make good admins, but they're still good editors. I hope that makes a bit more sense. @Ritchie333: Thank you for the explanation . Hi @PerfectSoundWhatever, I saw your post on WP:Canada regarding Waterloo, and I was wondering if you're still looking for help. I'm a Waterloo resident, and happy to lend a hand in my spare time if there's something specific you want me to put my energy towards. Kwkintegrator (talk) 04:07, 15 August 2022 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20220815040700","author":"Kwkintegrator","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Kwkintegrator-20220815040700-Waterloo","replies":["c-PerfectSoundWhatever-20220815045600-Kwkintegrator-20220815040700"]}}-->
@Kwkintegrator: Hey there fellow Waterloo resident, thanks for reaching out! I'm still trying to improve Waterloo, Ontario, but progress has slowed a bit. Generally, I need help writing prose, rewriting sections, and trying to make sure everything referenced. I've mostly been rewriting sections: already done Recreation, Government, Roads, Rail, Libraries, Education, Media, Arts and culture, and Air. Currently, the Economy section needs the most improvement. Sports and History#20th and 21st centuries need expansion. History in general could use expansion, too. Some sections are overly long, like Public transportation. So, if you'd be willing, feel free to expand / improve one of the aforementioned sections. Or read through the article and try to think of gaps missing in its coverage, or general issues. You could also just give the whole article a copyedit. The source Waterloo: An Illustrated History, 1857–2007 (ISBN978-0-9691175-1-3) is very useful and available at WPL.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! Articles on individual Waterloo neighbourhoods is a good idea as well, but I have yet to find a definitive list of all the neighbourhoods, making a Neighbourhoods in Waterloo article a bit moot. There's a whole book on Westmount actually. I'm wondering if maybe the way to go at present will be to create a draft article or stub for Transportation. Could probably then put out a bat signal to some planning friends I have to point me in the direction of good resources and build it out over time. Doing so would allow you to get the one bulky/technical paragraph out of the article in advance of a GA review, even if the amount of content for a history page isn't quite there yet.
I'll give the article a copyedit and flag for missing references this weekend, and add citations where I can. Anything more substantial than this message and I'll ping you on the Waterloo talk page.
As to the neighbourhoods question, here is a good resource. Wish my undergrad thesis got published at some point, otherwise I'd point you there. @Kwkintegrator: Thank you, sounds good. I've stumbled upon the neighbourhoods page in the past, it seems to be a list of neighbourhood groups and associations, not an actual list of neighbourhoods. I guess the map sorta does list neighbourhoods, but it has a bunch of wierd borders, and gaps in residential areas. (e.g. no neighbourhood listed under the Lexington / Bridge intersection).
