Welcome! to Wikipedia!
Hello LX, this is Exir Kamalabadi, and I hope that you are having fun with Wikipedia. First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! Find something that can be improved, either in content, grammar or formatting, then fix it. Don't be afraid. Be bold! If you do something wrong, there is always someone who will clean up the mess.
Hello! I noticed your edit to Mikael Odenberg, so I thought I should drop by and tell you about the wonders of {{DEFAULTSORT}}.
A sortkey is an alternative term the article should be sorted by when listed in a category. For example to add an article called Albert Einstein to the category "people" and have the article sorted by "Einstein, Albert". You would type "[[Category:People|Einstein, Albert]]". This kind of sortkey you successfully added to Mikael Odenberg in your edit.
But, I reverted most of your edit! Why? Because there is a feature called "Default sort key", which changes the default sort key used by categories from the name of the article to the one specified with the magic word {{DEFAULTSORT}}. Instead of adding |Odenberg, Mikael you simply add {{DEFAULTSORT:Odenberg, Mikael}} above the categories, which I had already done in this case.
Ooh, neat. I didn't see that. Apparently, this is a new function in MediaWiki 1.10. That's really handy knowledge for the other Wikimedia projects that I'm involved in as well. Thanks for letting me know! —LX (talk, contribs)11:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought USFWS images were public domain as US federal gov agencies. If that's no longer the case, go ahead and delete (I've fixed the typo in the upload comment so that it at least makes sense when it's chopped). A pity, because USFWS has some good bird images. jimfbleak15:59, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're probably right about that, but you'll also have to provide more specific source information (such as a URL or an ISBN) so that it's possible to verify that the image actually came from USFWS. (Sorry for the delay in the response; I'm away from my personal computer, having started a new job in a new town and trying to find a place to live, so I lack both the means and the time to work on the wikis at the moment.) —LX (talk, contribs)21:22, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Muslim_Association_of_Sweden
Hi, there's debate as to whether the association put forward demands or suggestions. Here's the original in Swedish. The words translated as demand(s) are "krav" and "kraven" respectively. The words are used 13 times. --tickleme01:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Krav unquestionably means "demand" (kraven is plural). It could not reasonably be translated as "suggestion." However, the letter proclaims to put forth krav och önskningar, "demands and wishes." Also, some of the uses of the word "krav" are not in reference to the authors' own demands. —LX (talk, contribs)22:49, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You tagged this image as a replacable fair use, but finding a replacement would be tricky since he was killed in Iraq. JACOPLANE • 2007-06-10 22:19
LX but Commons
This discussion has been moved back to commons:User talk:Abril Novo#Please_do_not_recreate_deleted_images. Please respect my request to keep discussions where they started. Don't continue discussions from elsewhere on this page, as this makes discussions harder to follow. Thank you.
I believe you removed this image believing it did not have sufficient permissioning under the GNU license guidelines. Please clarify what is needed, because a previous administrator had told me that it was adequately permissioned. Also, I was not notified of any problems with the license, which I understand is customary policy, as a courtesy to contributors. Please advise how the image can be restored and what permissioning specifically (eg, what language specifically) is required. Thanks,
Roberterubin (talk) 11:01, 26 December 2007 (UTC)roberterubin[reply]
I deleted the image because that was the consensus of the deletion discussion, which you were indeed notified of. I strongly doubt any administrator would have told you that a Wikipedia-only permission was sufficient to upload the image to Wikimedia Commons.
Thank you for the response. If you look at the log of information for the original posting of Boolos.gif, you will see that I was asked for the same information you refer to in 2006. I provided it to the administrator listed there. Also, here is the text of the message provided to MIT:
"I would like to post this photograph of Professor Boolos on a Wikipedia article about him I have contributed to. However, the photograph will actually be posted to Wikipedia Commons, which requires a free use GNU license. May I have your permission?"
As you can see, when permission was granted, it was not just for Wikipedia.
As for my being notified, I flagged the Boolos.gif entry to alert me to any changes, and no alert was ever generated.
I am happy to repeat the entire process, but your assumptions above are in error.
I would respectfully ask you to double-check your facts before acting in the future.
I emailed you because there was no response to my posting, but I certainly will not email you in the future. I think, given the above information, you might understand that trashing someone's work in the way you did (although I imagine you acted with good intentions) is not appreciated.
You really do need to get them to respond with the declaration provided at Commons:Email templates to show that they have understood the licence they are choosing (not least because there is no such thing as "the GNU license"), otherwise we don't have a legal leg to stand on if they change their minds or suddenly realise that you what you asked them was to give everyone the right to use the image in original or modified form for noncommercial or commercial purposes.
None of the Commons administrators enjoy deleting files. It's tedious volunteer work and tends to get people angry at us. We do it because we have to delete images with missing legal information to protect the integrity of Commons and the many fine, free images there. If you obtain an unambiguous permission statement, your file will be undeleted and will be one of the millions of images we try to protect.
It appears that you have blocked my IP address in Wikimedia Commons. I cannot edit anything or create an account. Your reason given is that I am using a zombie computer. Please provide me with more information so that we can all resolve this. You can reach me at my email address ([email protected]) or at my user page. --Robo56 (talk) 00:39, 31 August 2008 (UTC
Sorry for the late response; I haven't been logged into English Wikipedia for a while. Without knowing what the IP address in question is, I can't look into the matter further, and since I am no longer a Commons administrator, I wouldn't be able remove the block anyway.
In all likelihood, the IP address was listed at commons:Commons:Open proxy detection, and I probably determined that blocking was the correct action based on edits on Commons (which may since have been deleted) or reports elsewhere on the Internet of open proxy activities. For more information on why open proxies are disallowed, see meta:No open proxies.
Sorry, but I'am french and I have to speak english to help another frenchman ! So, Fantassin72 has been blocked by you in June 2007 ! And now he can't use Wikimedia. Can you do something to solve the problem. He find this text explanation :
Your user name or IP address has been blocked. LX blocked Coloniale from 19:03, 13 June 2007 to indefinite; the reason given was: Re-uploads deleted copyright violations. Fraudulent authorship claims. Information for blocked users You can contact LX or another administrator (list) to contest the block. You cannot use the email this user feature unless a valid email address is specified in your account preferences, has been confirmed
I have never been an administrator here on English Wikipedia, so I have never blocked anyone on this project. There is no sv:Användare:Fantassin72 or commons:User:Fantassin72 on Swedish Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, which are the only Wikimedia projects where I have been an administrator.
The message you show refers to a user called Coloniale. It looks like I blocked a Coloniale from editing over at Wikimedia Commons after the user ignored multiple warnings and shorter blocks for violating copyright laws (just as the block message states). The block only applies to editing at Wikimedia Commons. It does not affect the user's ability to use Commons in read-only mode or their ability to edit other Wikimedia projects such as here at English Wikipedia, if they had an account here.
As I am no longer an administrator on Commons (nor on Swedish Wikipedia), I cannot unblock anyone there. However, DitiunblockedColoniale before you wrote this message here at English Wikipedia. I hope that Coloniale understands the reason for the block and is now ready to contribute constructively.
Hey I created that image from a stock photo I did not mean to imply that I took the photo it was just given to me as a free stock photo. I if that is not allowed go ahead and delete the file, but i was under the assumption that because I change stock photo that it is then a new image that i could freely use.TucsonDavid (talk) 20:07, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please help me understand how we can see that the pic of Madonna that I placed in the article, and you subsequently removed has a copyright? I am new to this in Wiki. Thanks. --BwB (talk) 08:28, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All recently created works are protected by copyright (with a small number of exceptions, such as works created by the United States Federal Government). File:Madonna by David Shankbone.jpg is also protected by copyright, but the copyright holder has published it under a free license, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose – the same way that you release certain rights to your edits here – provided that the author is attributed and that the license is preserved.
File:Resized madonna.jpg, by contrast, is a photo from the Associated Press news agency. They typically do not publish their work under a free license or release it into the public domain. Consequently, File:Resized madonna.jpg does not have a licensing template. All files must have such a template to indicate why we are allowed to use it. The uploader claims that they have e-mailed information to confirm the license to OTRS, but since they don't seem to know what that license is, that claim was probably just made to delay deletion of the file. —LX (talk, contribs)09:51, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "LX", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you.
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lotje (talk • contribs) 16:07, 24 July 2013
Huh?
Wikipedia:Username policy#Misleading usernames? Nope. I'm not impersonating anyone. LX is short for Alex, which is short for Alexander, which is my given name. The only one I can see that you might confuse me with might be de:Benutzer:LX, but they registered their account after me, as explained at de:Benutzer:LX0. The name is not giving the impression that I have any special permissions. It doesn't imply that I'm a bot. It doesn't imply any official affiliation with the Wikimedia Foundation or its projects. It doesn't resemble an IP address.
I firmly believe that my user name does not violate any policy. It certainly did not violate the policy at the time when I registered it in 2003. It's SUL registered on all but one project with over 100,000 contributions spread over 48 projects, and this is the first time in ten years that anyone has had a problem with it, so you'd to well to explain what you think the problem is. Cheers, —LX (talk, contribs)18:48, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't upset me – just puzzled me, really. I'll congratulate you on having such a lively imagination, but I still don't think that making you think of other random things based on free association makes my user name misleading, disruptive, offensive, promotional, confusing or otherwise against policy. I suppose it's a good thing I didn't base my user name on my middle name instead, because that happens to be even closer to "Linux." —LX (talk, contribs)06:00, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well LX Thanks for Blocking me and Deleting my files, !
Because How can if Put some Copyright Permission and Attributions to my almost 3-years and mainstream Files . if i dont have an acces my Accounts ..
you always doing it .... i dont take it personaly but you are a hit to me ... anyway i Disabled now !
it looks like you try to Block me so i cant put my permission there and explain.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Philipandrew (talk • contribs) 06:22, 2 May 2014
you are a big hit to me 50 of my mainstream files was deleted because of you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Philipandrew (talk • contribs) 09:25, 2 May 2014
No, they were deleted because of you not providing truthful source and authorship information. However, that's a matter concerning your activities on Commons, so it's something that should be discussed on your talk page on that project. And please learn to sign your comments. —LX (talk, contribs)11:54, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
oh sorry! if you said untruthful which become mainstream because i made them if it has only other part from other files theirs an attribution To Remix, the file from the Original . . . then you call a Admin to block me i must explain this i said that can we talk all this but what you do ? .. Call and admin to block me and ripped up my Medias ... Oh Common i have a License.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Philipandrew (talk • contribs) 03:56, 3 May 2014
You had plenty of opportunities to provide truthful sources and to stop uploading blatant copyright violations. But again, what does this have to do with English Wikipedia, and why do you insist on not signing your comments? —LX (talk, contribs)06:47, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well it was 3 (three) years ! . .since it was posted here.. So if its really a copyright then it should deleted within 12th Hours!
it 3 years and months have been passed ! before you complain ?? you know bro I think theirs an a bit biases sorry (my personal opinion), but their a complain about wikipedia which about posting about something which containing some corrective facts and medias about , Hispanic, Black and even Filipino . . . as i observed for long time it was been two - years since i posted my Self--made illustration of Filipino ethnic grops.. im sorry i am not putting my self in shallow mindedness but its my Personal opinion
P.Andrew (talk) 04:55, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The way you become the copyright holder of an image is typically (1) by being the author of the image (2) by commissioning the work as a work made for hire (3) by having the copyright transferred to you in writing or (4) by inheriting the copyright from the previous copyright holder upon his or her death. I'm not sure why you feel the need to change the main image at Jennifer Lopez, but there are plenty of alternatives to choose from at commons:Category:Jennifer Lopez and its subcategories. —LX (talk, contribs)22:23, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
LX,
Thanks for your thoughtful review of the recent edits I've conducted on Wikipedia. I am new to the platform as an editor but have used this site as a jumping-off point for research and information purposes in the past.
As a former journalist, I'm certainly sensitive to the importance of unbiased information. In my role, I'm simply trying to make sure the most timely and accurate information about the College is being presented on this site.
In order to do that, I need some help using this system to the best of its ability while still acknowledging my role at Lackawanna College.
I'm sure you get requests like this often, but can I solicit your help in conducting these edits properly within the respective guidelines of the Wikipedia community?
I would be happy to reach you via email to continue our discussion, as I am completely unfamiliar with this platform.
Please let me know what further steps I can take to make arrangements with you to meet Wikipedia's needs and the needs of the College to place accurate information on its page.
Thanks in advance.

Perth Australia does not exist. The use of the phrase is a fiction perpetrated by social media geographically challenged logarithms.
There are more than one - there is -Perth, Western Australia or Perth, Tasmania
just noticed on your user page JarrahTree10:11, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hope that helps - Trying to keep the context, by trying to point out there is more than one perth - has been an ongoing issue, :( JarrahTree10:24, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Added a link that points to the relevant article. Hope that helps avoid any confusion. Needless to say, I got my university education in the one that actually has universities. —LX (talk, contribs)10:25, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Edit conflict - nah I noticed Perth, Australia on your user page :)
Trying to keep the context, by trying to point out there is more than one perth - has been an ongoing issue, :(
The tendency for google and facebook to have 'Perth, Australia' just shows they should know better, there are thousands of place names that needs qualifying terms (country, state or region) after place names, specially in the states and canada
BTW its great that we have a former West Australian resident with language other than english - that is so good ! JarrahTree10:30, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Survey Invite
I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they affect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.
I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.
I was flagged for a conflict of interest on an article I created because I disclosed that I received permission to use the image from the owner. I do not work for SF Motors. I live in San Francisco, and heard through the grapevine they were about to issue a press release that stated they would be making electric vehicles to compete with Tesla. I knew there would be alot of eyes on my Wiki if I made it, so I did. Then I reached out to them on their Facebook to ask if I could use their logo. They said yes, and let me know they liked the wiki. They then suggested I use a picture of their new Headquarters to represent one of my sections, and they sent me several. They did not influence the article in anyway. They just cooperated via giving permission to use the images. If you see any Puffery in the article it can be edited out, somebody else ( User:Graeme_Bartlett ) already checked and approved the page...and even removed some things. That should be in the edit history. GypsyGold (talk) 23:13, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
First they reached out to you "to make their Wikipedia", now you reached out to them. Which is it? What is your relation to the company? I have no idea why you think that Graeme's edits to add categories and remove some of your promotional language amounts to some sort of official endorsement, but they don't. —LX (talk, contribs)06:55, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I checked that the page was good enough to avoid speedy deletion (such as copyright infringement, advert, no claim of importance, attack ...), and then patrolled it. I also removed some promotional language otherwise I would tag it with "advert". I did not check if the author had a conflict of interest. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:12, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have no relation to the company. I reached out to them for images to use. I poorly worded myself when trying to get the images approved. I was trying to ask how to document that I have permission to use said images. Was not trying to imply I work for SFMotors. I do not. I can link you my LinkedIn if that helps. GypsyGold (talk) 22:51, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Be that as it may (and I hope you'll forgive me for remaining skeptical), you nevertheless appear unable to write about the company and its employees in a neutral and encyclopedic tone. You say that they did not influence the article in any way, but several passages were taken verbatim from their website and press releases. Regardless of the reason for that, it's probably best if you give the topic a wide berth. —LX (talk, contribs)09:04, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I already did remove a whole bunch of promotional fluff and marketing speak. That's about the extent of what I have time for at the moment, but there is still more of the same. Again, it doesn't really matter whether your motivation for writing about the company is that you work for it or that, as a blogger (per your own statements) in the Bay area, you may be trying to build a portfolio for the Digital Marketing Manager position that they're advertising, or something else. I still think it would be best if you found other topics that you may be able to write about in a more neutral tone. —LX (talk, contribs)17:37, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, I probably could get that job. I'm sure my current one pays more. Well, I guess I have nothing really to add. I just rather not see the page get deleted. It is going to be getting alot of traffic, since the company will become a powerhouse within the next year. Its kind of like having street cred, for being the one to create and manage such a large page. Like I'm sure the guy who created and manages the Coca Cola page gets a large sense of joy and accomplishment from it. I'm fairly new to this, having only made one page prior back in 2007, and then recently began updating/maintaining it. I really do enjoy doing this stuff, so, I'm going top continue to stick around the SF Motors page. But if you have some specific advice as to how to make the page better, I'm all ears.71.198.254.158 (talk) 21:20, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
