If it's still showing up, it's likely due to caching issues. Thanks for your help with this page, but I'm only a newbie and don't understand what an "edit war" is. I'm trying to put references in, but the "edit war" flag is telling me I can't. I was frequently editing opera articles long ago, mostly French operas. Although Debussy composed a few operas, he left a big step in opera history and I only follow such view as do others (somebody might put the banner for that reason obviously). Besides, I'm also a member of WikiProject Museum and it is not odd that museum articles have somewhat overlapped wikiproject banners such as WP:WikiProject Architecture and WP:WikiProject Museum. Therefore, I can't agree with your point of view. Sorry.--Caspian blue (talk)

I do not think that banner is a decorative spam as you accuse. (I'm hurt by your reckless comment). Besides, I DO KNOW well the suggested list and article because I translated them into Korean for Korean Wikiproject. Besides, I did not apologize to you at all. "sorry" means "regretful" as well. I do have no intention to revert the talk page myself.--Caspian blue (talk) 05:16, 1 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-01T05:16:00.000Z","author":"Caspian blue","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Caspian_blue-2008-07-01T05:16:00.000Z-Sorry,_I_can't_do_that","replies":["c-Caspian_blue-2008-07-01T13:21:00.000Z-Caspian_blue-2008-07-01T05:16:00.000Z"]}}-->

Can you explain why you, as a person with an interest in classical music, added the prod template to country house opera. This was clearly an absurd action, and thankfully it was quickly reversed by a third party, as I have not been around much lately. Do you have some sort of personal animus against someone involved with country house opera? The fact that this sort of destructive action is allowed on Wikipedia is more evidence that it is probably more trouble than it is worth to contribute, so I'm glad I've kicked the habit. Hi, Kleinzach. I've seen you around the music articles, so maybe you can answer a question for me: I'm thinking of starting articles on a few of the compositions of Tōru Takemitsu. I've been collecting his scores for decades, and would like to upload short musical quotes/examples to illustrate whatever commentary I find on them. I've found Wikipedia to be very intolerant towards any sort of illustration at all, and, basically given up on ever uploading a picture of a person unless he or she died long before copyright law reared its ugly head... However, I've found that a film poster, used in the article on a film, if carefully described, and protected against constant bot-tagging, can survive. How does Wiki react to short musical quotes? Will I be wasting my time by scanning and uploading them? Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 02:26, 3 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-03T02:26:00.000Z","author":"Dekkappai","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Dekkappai-2008-07-03T02:26:00.000Z-Musical_quotes","replies":["c-Dekkappai-2008-07-03T05:38:00.000Z-Dekkappai-2008-07-03T02:26:00.000Z"]}}-->

Thanks for the feedback, Kleinzach. Yes, I've had working on Takemitsu's music in the back of my mind for a long time... I guess getting accosted by the image-flatfeet once too often (or a couple dozen times too often, more like it) has left me a little wary of the whole area. I see the editor who got the Takemitsu article up to FA status uploaded a couple bars successfully, so I'll take your advice and try one or two at first, following that format, and see if I get thrown to the lions or not. :-) Cheers! Hey. I saw your note in your sandbox and did some investigating. Somewhere along the line when others were updating the Opera template Category:WikiProject Opera articles was removed from the template, which was used to populate the category. I've added it and the category is slowly growing again. {{PAGESINCATEGORY:WikiProject Opera articles}} should provide an accurate count of the number of articles in Category:WikiProject Opera articles in a few days after everything has updated. (17,441) Hope that helps! §hep¡Talk to me! 22:23, 3 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-03T22:23:00.000Z","author":"Stepshep","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Stepshep-2008-07-03T22:23:00.000Z-Empty_category","replies":[],"displayName":"\u00a7hep"}}-->

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I am currently doing a show (now through the second week of August) and my time is limmited on here for the moment. Greetings! I am not at all at loose ends, nor are my edits random; I'm part of the stub-sorting project, which has a proposal for splitting this category either by century or by language. In order to get an accurate count for the possible split, I'm sorting out things that are not operas, i.e. opera singers & other people, and I will take on opera companies later. Since the articles in question have permanent opera-type categories, they will not be lost in the shuffle. If you feel strongly about a stub type, and you think there may be more than 60 articles for opera people who aren't singers, please feel free to propose {{opera-bio-stub}} or something related at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. According to the proposal at stub sorting (which is where stub proposals go), someone requested participation by the Opera project and got no response; then when WPSS acted according to stub guidelines, their efforts were reverted. I don't know how many edits I've made (you can take a look at my contributions if you like). I do understand many of the nuances of the opera world, and I understand your anxiety about making more work, but I have faith that the sorting I have done will help rather than hinder. As for notifying the Opera project, I gathered from the WPSS discussion that that had happened in the past and was about to happen again, so please stop admonishing me for not notifying the project. I'm puzzled by your removal of Category:Saxophone quartets from the Rova Saxophone Quartet today. In your edit summary you say "for music not musicians", but what else can this cat be used for other than to group saxophone quartets? --Bruce1eetalk 09:14, 4 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-04T09:14:00.000Z","author":"Bruce1ee","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Bruce1ee-2008-07-04T09:14:00.000Z-Category:Saxophone_quartets","replies":["c-Bruce1ee-2008-07-04T11:04:00.000Z-Bruce1ee-2008-07-04T09:14:00.000Z"]}}-->

I've reverted two of your edits related to this matter. I also tweaked the definition of Category:Saxophone quartets to (hopefully) eliminate ambiguity. I see that its sister category, Category:String quartets has a companion category, Category:Compositions for string quartet, which eliminates any possible ambiguity. --Bruce1eetalk 11:04, 4 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-04T11:04:00.000Z","author":"Bruce1ee","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Bruce1ee-2008-07-04T11:04:00.000Z-Bruce1ee-2008-07-04T09:14:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

YES, it's me, I am sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant H3 headings, not titles, the last 3 headings in my article, "Choral/Vocal music," "Film score" and "Incidental music" should be H3 headings. Did you see what they did to my attempt to put in a video too? It was a scene from his last opera, Le piccole storie which I introduced alla Renata Tebaldi: "YouTube - Scene from Le piccole storie in this video from 2007" but it did not work ! Now his photographs and video are on Freebase, such a pity... Meanwhile, I would be very grateful if we could solve the headings problem. Could you give a brief opinion on whether this is a viable FL nomination? It's on peer review at present; one reviewer has questioned the "Mozart's women" para in the lead, and also doesn't like the bibliography format. I think I can defend both of these, but I would value an informed view on the overall quality of the list, if you can spare the time. Brianboulton (talk) 17:34, 6 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-06T17:34:00.000Z","author":"Brianboulton","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Brianboulton-2008-07-06T17:34:00.000Z-List_of_Mozart's_operas","replies":["c-Kleinzach-2008-07-07T05:25:00.000Z-Brianboulton-2008-07-06T17:34:00.000Z"]}}-->

On the first point I am in two minds myself as to whether this might be better in the Mozart main article. The last time I looked at bibliography formats there didn't seem to be much of a consensus on WP about how to do them. Sources and references shows how we do them on the Opera Project - basically Harvard style. I'll have a look at the peer review as well. --Kleinzach 05:25, 7 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-07T05:25:00.000Z","author":"Kleinzach","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Kleinzach-2008-07-07T05:25:00.000Z-Brianboulton-2008-07-06T17:34:00.000Z","replies":["c-Kleinzach-2008-07-07T05:46:00.000Z-Kleinzach-2008-07-07T05:25:00.000Z"],"displayName":"Klein"}}-->

As to the lists, they look pretty informative. I've so far only looked in detail at Cherubini, and my initial comments are:-

  • Since there are far fewer links available to specific opera articles than is the case with Mozart, these lists are potentially an important source for anyone seeking details about the individual works, so the lists should aim to include as much information as is practically possible.

I'm some distance from a comprehensive music library. My own stuff is pretty well confined to Mozart and Wagner. I've been trying to help the guy who adds so much to this page. He left this note here:

Hi, Thanks for your observations on the Jon Christos Wikipedia article. Although I'm not the author of the page, as a friend of Jon's I do edit it occasionally. I'm not greatly familiar with the workings of Wikipedia and find it some of it quite complicated, but notice you found some great references on Jon which I could use as verifiable references on his career notes- if that's ok with you. I also wonder if you can let me know of a similar classical music artist Wikipedia page that would be a good example to follow in it's correctness. Regards, Alfshire. AB 16:56, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

When I think he's getting the idea he adds clearly fan-style, COI stuff — see the edit he's just added here. Some the references he adds are to content created by the subject or his record company eg [1]. I'm getting out of my depth; I've been trying to tidy it and make it more objective, but I feel I may be wasting my effort... Could you help me out a bit, citing WP policies etc? Thank you, almost-instinct 16:23, 11 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-11T16:23:00.000Z","author":"Almost-instinct","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Almost-instinct-2008-07-11T16:23:00.000Z-Jon_Christos_part_two","replies":[],"displayName":"almost"}}-->

This is now at FLC. It has so far attracted only limited attention, concerned with commas, full stops and minor style questions. It badly needs some informed comment about its content and utility. The list provoked some interest when it first appeared; it would be very helpful if you could spare a minute or two to leave a comment at FLC. Thanks. Thanks for the note. Just to let you know I am basically placing banners on articles in Category:Music theory stubs which seemed appropriate. I think it essential to banner articles under the projects perview as it helps recruit members and hopefully will foster an interest in the project. If you forsee any issues let me know and or have any advice as to limmiting where I and any potential new members should place banners let me know.Nrswanson (talk) 03:37, 23 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-23T03:37:00.000Z","author":"Nrswanson","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T03:37:00.000Z-Avoiding_banner_spam","replies":["c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:15:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T03:37:00.000Z"]}}-->

I am not sure exactly what you want me to do... I set out the scope of the project what more should I say? I started the project because I personally feel that many of the articles on music theory subjects are either poorly written, inaccurate, in need of expansion, and in many cases unreferenced. Also many of these articles have never had a banner at all and are currently orphaned from the rest of the encyclopedia. I personally would be more interested in improving already existing articles in a systematic way than writing new ones. At this point, the overall navigation of music theory articles is difficult since categories and lists are currently not used as effectively as they could be in this area. This is one reason I have been bannering article, so that I can get a more accurate picture of how best to organize the body of articles into useful categories, etc. I want this section of music articles to be as well organized as the opera project and right now it's a mess.Nrswanson (talk) 04:15, 23 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-23T04:15:00.000Z","author":"Nrswanson","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:15:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T03:37:00.000Z","replies":["c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:27:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:15:00.000Z"]}}-->
Sigh... It's taken me several hours to put these up and I frankly don't have the time to remove them right now. (I will be gone the next two days) Perhaps you know of a bot owner who could help? Also, many of the articles had no banner to begin with so what do we do about those. And when would banner placement be appropriate? etc. Nrswanson (talk) 04:27, 23 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-23T04:27:00.000Z","author":"Nrswanson","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:27:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:15:00.000Z","replies":["c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:35:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:27:00.000Z"]}}-->
I thought about doing a taskforce but honestly the classical music project is too narrow a project for this subject for several reasons. One, there are several elements of music theory used only in jazz, blues, etc. that would not be relevent to the classical project. Two, the foundations of musical theory are used in all western music and are therefore not only under the scope of the classical music project but the scope of multiple projects. It really makes more sense for it to be its own project. Organizationally a project makes more sense but perhaps a taskforce might be more practical. What do you think?Nrswanson (talk) 04:35, 23 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-23T04:35:00.000Z","author":"Nrswanson","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:35:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:27:00.000Z","replies":["c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:47:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:35:00.000Z"]}}-->
Agreed. Your way is best. I removed the music project banners simply because I think of that project as a catch all for random articles that don't fit anywhere else. I honestly didn't think they'd care since the policy seems to be to not place their banner on articles where another music project banner exists. On second thought, that probably was foolish on my part.Nrswanson (talk) 04:47, 23 July 2008 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-07-23T04:47:00.000Z","author":"Nrswanson","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:47:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:35:00.000Z","replies":["c-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:57:00.000Z-Nrswanson-2008-07-23T04:47:00.000Z"]}}-->
