The Structured Data team is hosting an IRC office hour this week on Thursday, 18 July, from 17:00-18:00 UTC. Joining information as well as date and time conversion is available on Meta. Potential topics for discussion are the testing of "other statements", properties that may need to be created for Commons on Wikidata soon, plans for the rest of SDC development, or whatever you might want to discuss. The development team looks forward to seeing you there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 16 July 2019 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2019-07-16T18:51:00.000Z","author":"Keegan (WMF)","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Keegan_(WMF)-2019-07-16T18:51:00.000Z-Structured_Data_on_Commons_-_IRC_office_hours_this_week,_18_July","replies":[]}}-->
Many thanks for participating in the SVG Translation Campaign 2019 in India. It had been quite a successful campaign—194 users from 19 Indic languages took part in the campaign for 38 days, and have created more than 2,500 SVG files, all of them having labels in native Indian languages. You may read the complete report of the campaign at https://w.wiki/3yn.
We would like to thank you again for translating SVG files as a part of this campaign, your contributions have given thousands of people the knowledge that they need the most. Now we would like to have your feedback about the overall campaign, how effective were the training sessions, the resources provided, the support etc.
Please fill the feedback survey at https://forms.gle/4TCicfYzjAGVvKTy6
Your responses are extremely valuable to us, and will be of immense help to understand further training needs or plan future activities in this area. Let us know if you have any questions.
Please note that 4 August 2019 is the last date to complete the survey. Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
Coordinator
A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.
This month's refresher course
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
Paid editing
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.
DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. On the talk page you can also sign up to make sure you're a part of the feedback for designs and prototype testing. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:57, 17 September 2019 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2019-09-17T17:57:00.000Z","author":"Keegan (WMF)","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Keegan_(WMF)-2019-09-17T17:57:00.000Z-Structured_Data_-_computer-aided_tagging","replies":[]}}-->

Hey, regarding your removal of a PROD tag on Heidi Joubert on the basis that it doesn't meet BLPPROD, PROD and BLPPROD are two separate deletion protocols, BLPPROD's restrictions do not apply to all PRODs on BLP articles (see WP:BLPPROD#Scope) Yes this is very confusing, no I don't know how we ended up with these names. My guess would be because BLPPROD tags can be removed by non-admins more similarly to PROD than to AfD or CSD.. I've decided to proceed to AfD anyway per the rule that PROD cannot be re-added even if it is removed for bad reasons, but figure I should let you know for future cases. signed, Rosguilltalk14:36, 3 October 2019 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2019-10-03T14:36:00.000Z","author":"Rosguill","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Rosguill-2019-10-03T14:36:00.000Z-PROD_vs_BLPPROD","replies":["c-KCVelaga-2019-10-08T17:49:00.000Z-Rosguill-2019-10-03T14:36:00.000Z"]}}-->
@Rosguill: I am still confused about this. The scope says that it applies to "to articles that are biographies of living people" The article is question is biography of a living person, then how doesn't that come under BLPPROD. Kindly explain how the article doesn't come under the scope of BLPPROD. KCVelaga (talk) 17:49, 8 October 2019 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2019-10-08T17:49:00.000Z","author":"KCVelaga","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-KCVelaga-2019-10-08T17:49:00.000Z-Rosguill-2019-10-03T14:36:00.000Z","replies":["c-Rosguill-2019-10-08T17:54:00.000Z-KCVelaga-2019-10-08T17:49:00.000Z"]}}-->
I think the easiest way to think about it is that PROD and BLPPROD are separate protocols. BLPPROD is valid if and only if an article 1) is a BLP and 2) has NO citations whatsoever. That latter criterion was not met in this case, but it still clearly didn't meet notability guidelines so PROD was appropriate.
The reason for why these are both called PROD is because of the method of deletion. Unlike speedy deletion, where an admin can delete at their discretion at any time once the tag is placed, a BLPPROD must stay on the article for a full week before it's time for deletion, similar to how a PROD works. signed, Rosguilltalk17:54, 8 October 2019 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2019-10-08T17:54:00.000Z","author":"Rosguill","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Rosguill-2019-10-08T17:54:00.000Z-KCVelaga-2019-10-08T17:49:00.000Z","replies":["c-KCVelaga-2019-10-08T17:59:00.000Z-Rosguill-2019-10-08T17:54:00.000Z"]}}-->
@Rosguill: Thanks for clarifying. I need to read more in this area. Namaste, KCVelaga. We would like to inform you about the recent changes to the WikiProject. As you may know, the old newsletter for WikiProject India ceased circulation in 2010. Now we have re-launched the newsletter in a new way. As a member, you are cordially invited to subscribe to the newsletter. Thank you.

Hello KCVelaga,
This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.
Getting the queue to 0
There are now 810 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.
Coordinator
Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.
This month's refresher course
Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.
Tools
It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback
Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.
Second set of eyes
Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee
The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.
Community Wish list
There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

@DiplomatTesterMan: I am pretty much active with Wikimedia - just busy with a few non en-WP projects. Thanks for giving me a heads up on this. I generally don't review articles related to Indian military because I work a lot around this topic area. However, since I haven't contributed almost anything to this article, I can take this up. But please give me ping again if no one takes up by 10 November -- I will take up then, and start reviewing. Also please note, due to my extremely hectic schedule, the review might go a bit slow. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

As per this and this short chat....this is a followup. I don't mind waiting a bit longer for someone to start the GAN. I only nominated it on 6 October so it hasnt been that long. Though you had said to remind you if no one takes it up by the 10th... I was just waiting for the COE to finish. You had mentioned the busy schedule last time, same here as of now. But yeh I am so looking forward to it since this will be my first. Reviewer of the Year
This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.
Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.
Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.
Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.
(The top 100 reviewers of the year can be found here)
Redirect autopatrol
A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.
Source Guide Discussion
Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.
This month's refresher course
While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Hey KCV, how are you? Remember that discussion we had about verifiability of medals on uniforms of Indian military personnel? That same issue is now a cause of edit-war on Gen. Naravane's article. The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
Discussions and Resources
There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

A plate of Shami kebab for you
Here is a plate of Shami kebab for you. is a popular Iranian and Indian variety of kebab, also found in Pakistani and Bangladeshii cuisine. It is composed of a small patty of minced meat, (usually chevon in India, but occasionally lamb or mutton), with ground chickpeas, egg to hold it together, and spices. Thank you.

Hi @Diannaa: thanks for the message. The document will soon be released by the copyright holder to Wikimedia Commons, along with a few other images which are to be used on the article. @Diannaa and Nat: Thanks you both for your inputs. I am thinking of a few of things at this point, please let me know if any of them works. Sorry for holding to this, I am just concerned that a lot of effort of has been put into getting the media released, and you would know that convincing government organisations is a great deal. Fortunately, the department is willing release/re-release it according whatever are our requirements to make it work. I just don't want it to be a wasted opportunity. Here are my thoughts;
If the copyright holder releases it under 3.0 again to Commons, and if we multi-license the file, wouldn't that mean 3.0 is still applicable? I mean, even if 4.0 takes precedence, that doesn't make 3.0 invalid - please correct me if I am wrong. @Nat, the Multi-licensing link you have shared talks about collages, where two images having different licenses are combined. But that is not the case here, the content is being used almost as it is, with a few modifications according to MoS. How will this work in such cases?
Is it possible to release the content under 3.0 again to permissions-en, as it is generally done for content release? If so, what is the procedure and email template for the same?
Is there any other way to make this work? If not, I am thinking of converting tables into paraphrased+summarised text. However, I only want this to be the last resort.
Thanks for the your time regarding this, I greatly appreciate it. Per how the licences work, 4.0 would supersede 3.0, and per policy, only the 4.0 would be displayed. I did a little gander on the CC website if a licence could be downgraded, and unfortunately not. It can only be "upgraded". Your best bet would be to paraphrase and summarise, and have a thumb of the pdf file next to the text. (the collage was just an example)
Please read Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing before adding/re-adding text (even if it's a summary or paraphrasing). --Ìch heiss Natùn ìch redd e wenig Elsässisch!Talk to me in EN, FR, PL, GSW-FR(ALS).21:55, 16 May 2020 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-05-16T21:55:00.000Z","author":"Nat","type":"comment","level":11,"id":"c-Nat-2020-05-16T21:55:00.000Z-KCVelaga-2020-05-16T21:26:00.000Z","replies":["c-KCVelaga-2020-05-17T05:49:00.000Z-Nat-2020-05-16T21:55:00.000Z"],"displayName":"\u00ccch heiss Nat"}}-->

@Nat: I have gone through the FAQs regarding "Separate agreements" and "Supplemental agreements" - from my understanding there shouldn't be a problem for adding a CC0 license tag. The argument primarily talks about different licencors such as CC and GPL. Anyway, it mentions there will be a problem or it shouldn't be done only when the other license doesn't "neutralize terms of the CC license" - in this case it is CC0. As CC0 is almost non-restrictive expect for "publicity or privacy rights" which is also a clause for 4.0 - apart from that there are no conflicting terms. I think there shouldn't any problem, the question now is about how can we do it on Commons - do you think a discussion on the copyrights village pump, admins noticeboard or any other similar would be appropriate? Hi KCVelaga, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Hi KCVelaga! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over three years.
In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in three years or more.
You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:
Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
Paste {{Frs user|{{subst:currentuser}}|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
Publish the page.
If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.
Note that if you had a rename and left your old name on the FRS page, you may be receiving this message. If so, make sure your new account name is on the FRS list instead.

Hello KCVelaga,
Your help can make a difference
NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.
Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate
In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.
Discussions and Resources
A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.

@KCVelaga: Hi, sorry for the trouble! This was the first trial run of the bot that's doing this pruning, and there was a bug initially with it where people with spaces in their usernames who had undergone a global rename wouldn't have their renames picked up correctly (you can see you've been addressed in the message by your old username, not your new one). The bug is now fixed - please feel free to readd your name :) Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 18:32, 1 July 2020 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-07-01T18:32:00.000Z","author":"Naypta","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Naypta-2020-07-01T18:32:00.000Z-KCVelaga-2020-07-01T18:28:00.000Z","replies":["c-KCVelaga-2020-07-01T18:37:00.000Z-Naypta-2020-07-01T18:32:00.000Z"]}}-->

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. Greetings,
I'm following up on a message from earlier in the year about the prototype development for Special:MediaSearch. Based on community feedback, the Structured Data team has developed some new features for Special:MediaSearch and are seeking another round of comments and discussions about the tool. Commons:Structured_data/Media_search is updated with details about the new features plus some other development information, and feedback is welcome on Commons talk:Structured_data/Media_search. Media Search works in any language, so the team would especially appreciate input around support for languages other than English. I look forward to reading about what you think. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)__DTREPLYBUTTONSCONTENT__-->__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-09-23T20:05:00.000Z","author":"Keegan (WMF)","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Keegan_(WMF)-2020-09-23T20:05:00.000Z-Commons_-_Media_Sarch,_new_feedback_round","replies":[]}}-->

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
