Been a while since we've been in touch! I'm thinking of doing a small article on the West Wales team which often formed a part of the tourists' itinerary in the amateur era, but I can't find a great deal about it. I know from match details in Rothmans books that it was comprised of players from Llanelli, Swansea and other clubs from west Wales (strangely enough!) but there isn't much else out there. The West Wales rugby union has a website but their membership seems to come from clubs lower down the strata and doesn't have anything about a West Wales invitational / representative XV. Have you got any info or thoughts? All the best. --Bcp67 (talk) 18:41, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-12-11T18:41:00.000Z","author":"Bcp67","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Bcp67-2012-12-11T18:41:00.000Z-West_Wales_XV","replies":["c-Bcp67-2012-12-12T20:32:00.000Z-Bcp67-2012-12-11T18:41:00.000Z"]}}-->
Thanks for the reply. Plenty of examples from tours around the 60s, 70s and 80s - they played the All Blacks in 67, 72-73 and 78, the Wallabies in 73, 81-82 and others like Argentina 1976. The 1973 Japan team played Western Counties (Wales). I'm thinking of writing something along the lines of "The West Wales rugby union team was an invitational team which played against teams overseas which were touring Wales" or similar. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:32, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2012-12-12T20:32:00.000Z","author":"Bcp67","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Bcp67-2012-12-12T20:32:00.000Z-Bcp67-2012-12-11T18:41:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
...for the barnstar. Welsh history wasn't previously "my thing" but I stumbled across some redlinks which I thought might be interesting to fill out and they suggested a couple of further articles to me. Would be interested in your view on another article I've been thinking about doing: Conquest of Wales is just a re-direct to Statute of Rhuddlan, which doesn't seem appropriate. I can't find any article which covers Edwardian Conquest of Wales, and while there is Norman invasion of Wales, there isn't an overview article that summarizes that and the Edwardian Conquest. I've been trying to establish if any of these would dupplicate existing articles, and I'm not seeing any. I can't see anything between Wales in the Early Middle Ages and Wales in the Late Middle Ages, other than the Norman Invasion article and History of Gwynedd during the High Middle Ages which might partially cover it. What would you think of new articles Conquest of Wales and Edwardian Conquest of Wales? If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited British and Irish Lions, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Wilcox (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Looking at the Category:Welsh rugby league players, I realised that any player who played before the 1970s, whose article name ended with the text "(rugby league)", e.g. Frederick Brown (rugby league) will likely have played rugby union before "Going North", yet their articles make no mention of their prior rugby union career, hence their article name. There are 95 articles that meet these criteria, would you know whether these players are detailed in either of Robert Gate's "Gone North" books? Best Regards. I haven't created a list, but any player article name ending with the text "(rugby league)" on the three pages of Category:Welsh rugby league players, would be worth investigating if their playing era was prior to the 1970s, e.g. Dennis Brown (rugby league), John Cheshire (rugby league), etc. but probably not post 1970s players, e.g. Joe Burke (rugby league), David Clarke (rugby league), etc. For example, of the fourteen players with the surname "Davies" and article names ending with the text "(rugby league)", 8 have pre-1970s careers, and 6 have post 1970s careers. As part of the investigation into the rugby union careers of pre-1970s Welsh rugby league players, I've found that the Cardiff RFC Season Review 1949 - 1950 webpage mentions a Malcolm Davies playing for the Cardiff Athletic XV, it's about the right era, so could this be Malcolm Davies (rugby league)? Is Cardiff Athletic XV a second team? Also, if you could please take a look at Talk:Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, there's another Malcolm Davies (rugby league) related query. Best Regards. Hi again, FM. I don't have a Welsh etymology for Tregaron, but always assumed it's based on St Caron, whose church is there. Now someone has written the following in the article Tregaron (estate): "Davies named the place "Tregaron" (village of the three wells) after his mother's ancestral home in Wales." Yes; around 18 came in during the day, most for 3-4 hours and a few stayed all day. This time we'll have two groups. The venue was superb and the staff at the Central Library were very accommodating. Let's do it! I'll leave a message on the Welsh Group talk page. Thanks for the insipration! Hey. Do you have a RS for the line-ups for the international matches played by 1888–1889 New Zealand Native football team? I have a pretty good source for the tour as a whole, but it doesn't explicitly give line-ups for those three matches (against England, Ireland, and Wales). If you do have a good source, would you be able to add an inline citation with page numbers to the article? Thanks. - Shuddetalk12:04, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-04-12T12:04:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Shudde-2013-04-12T12:04:00.000Z-International_fixtures_for_1888\u20131889_New_Zealand_Native_football_team","replies":["c-Shudde-2013-04-14T07:23:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-04-12T12:04:00.000Z"]}}-->

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Robert Thomas (sculptor), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Welsh (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I have been here over 7 years - the sad thing is that tagging something as unreferenced is noble but very rarely results in improvement. Surely it's much better to remove and start again? Or at least remove some entries (Dixie Dean had a car crash in the area?!) to make it limited to people born / lived long time in the town. Hey. Wondering if you have any ambitions to bring Arthur Gould (rugby union) up to Featured Article standard? I don't think it'll require too much work to do this, and was thinking I try and polish it a bit if the FAC for Thomas Ellison is successful (it's been open a while, but will hopefully pass). - Shuddetalk01:52, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-06-15T01:52:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Shudde-2013-06-15T01:52:00.000Z-Arthur_Gould_(rugby_union)","replies":["c-Shudde-2013-06-16T10:52:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-06-15T01:52:00.000Z"]}}-->
I have added a todo list to the Arthur Gould talk page. You should add any things you think need to be done to improve the article. I'm wondering if you think the article is comprehensive, and if not what more needs to be added? I was envisaging we try and polish the article, then take to a peer-review. After than we can consider a nom for FAC. - Shuddetalk10:52, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-06-16T10:52:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Shudde-2013-06-16T10:52:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-06-15T01:52:00.000Z","replies":["c-Shudde-2013-06-19T11:42:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-06-16T10:52:00.000Z"]}}-->

But seriously though, I believe having a notability criteria of 'Have fought at least n (number yet to de defined) professional fights for a top-tier organisation' would be perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, the thing about boxing associations/boards/councils/federations/organisations/unions is that there are so many to choose from.
I would define the top-tier as being; IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO.
And as this is the English language Wikipedia, I see no reason why the national boxing associations/boards/councils/federations/organisations/unions within the Anglosphere should not be considered top-tier, e.g. British Boxing Board of Control, Boxing Union of Ireland, etc. and subject to article creation; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, etc.
I'm off on holiday tomorrow for 2-weeks, so I won't be able to help with the redefinition of the Boxing Notability guidelines until I return, and by which time Nat Jacobs and Jimmy Cable will no doubt have been deleted. You may have noticed that my patience is running very fucking thin with Wikipedia, I've made Boxing notability the same as MMA notability, let's see how long that lasts. Best Regards. The List of Commonwealth Boxing Council Champions is now 'complete', I'm encouraged to see the large number of blue-links that appear on there, including all Welsh boxers, as far as I can tell, but there’s still a number of red-links to go at. Can I ask a favour? Do you have access to, e.g. ProQuest to help me identify which of Nat Jacobs' bouts this detail refers, as according to BoxRec he didn't have a bout around 14 October 1964; "PHONE CALL FROM JACOBS ENDS HUE AND CRY", The Irish Times (1921-Current File); Oct 14, 1964; ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Irish Times (1859-2011) and The Weekly Irish Times (1876-1958) pg. 4

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited David Jones (Baptist minister), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Caldicot (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks for your very welcome contributions to the scheduled monuments lists. I have done a format explanation at Talk:List of Scheduled Monuments in Vale of Glamorgan to give some background on what is being aimed at, including how I have organised the ref items. Any comments you have on that would be welcome. I have tweaked your coflein edited refs to include the coflien NPRN as the 'title', and move the Cadw SAM back to then end of the ref, so it can retain all three reference numbers. On 10 September 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Llanilid, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the settlement of Llanilid in Wales is home to a medieval church, the remains of an early fortification and a £330m film studio? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Llanilid. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

I see you're a member of WikiProject Wales and have contributed to Welsh articles. There's a new project, Llwybrau Byw!|Living Paths! under development which you might be able to contribute to. Lonely Planet rated the coast of Wales "the best region on Earth" in 2012, yet there is a very low number of articles on the history and culture of places along the Coastal Path and the many and various activities and attractions. This promises to be an exciting project as it gathers momentum with many Users joining in. Let's make this WikiProject, like the path itself, the best on earth! Hey, in the GA review for 1888–89 New Zealand Native football team, the reviewer has asked why Arthur Gould didn't like the four three-quarter system (see Talk:1888–89 New Zealand Native football team/GA1). A fantastic lot of images there - I've started cropping some to add to individual biographies of High Court / Court of Appeal judges where I know who they are (Christopher Pitchford, Nigel Davis, David Lloyd Jones, Wyn Williams, John Griffith Williams so far) and I've added a couple of the "group shots" to general images about judges in E&W. If there are particular images / people you'd like me to try to add to the file captions, let me know and I'll have a go. Hi FruitMonkey, according to the Aberavon RFC Club → History page… "The back play during this period was of a high standard and in a King George V Jubilee match - between Wales and The Rest - the entire Aberavon back division was selected. It comprised: Tommy Owen James, Arthur Bassett, Randall Lewis, Jack Thomas and Alan Edwards." As far as I'm aware, only Arthur Bassett won caps for Wales, would you know whether the text; "the entire Aberavon back division was selected" means; for this in 1935(?) match they were selected for 'The Rest' and so they were uncapped; or, does it mean that although they were selected for Wales, as this was a non-Test match they were uncapped? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 15:56, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-10-23T15:56:00.000Z","author":"DynamoDegsy","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-DynamoDegsy-2013-10-23T15:56:00.000Z-King_George_V_Jubilee_match\u2026","replies":["c-DynamoDegsy-2013-10-24T09:25:00.000Z-DynamoDegsy-2013-10-23T15:56:00.000Z"]}}-->
I can't say for sure, but comparing this photograph of an older Arthur Bassett in his Halifax days to the photograph of 'The Rest' featuring Frank Whitcombe, I would say that the younger Arthur Bassett is sat on the floor, on the right, cross-legged. If so, this may mean that the entire Aberavon back division was selected for 'The Rest', and not Wales. As an aside, I'm assuming that 'The Rest' was 'The Rest' of Wales, not Britain, nor the World? Hey. I've been pretty busy the last couple of months, but have been planning to get a little more active again. I've had another read through Arthur Gould (rugby union) and I think it's nearly ready for a peer review. I was thinking about giving it a copy-edit and then requesting a peer review – probably sometime this weekend. Are you okay with that? Another couiple of things I've been meaning to mention: is there a ref for footnote b? And is the Lloyd, John Edward; Jenkins, R.T. (1958) referenced in the article, or can it be moved to further reading? Cheers. – Shuddetalk11:23, 26 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-11-26T11:23:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Shudde-2013-11-26T11:23:00.000Z-Arthur_Gould_(again!)","replies":["c-Shudde-2013-11-30T08:15:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-11-26T11:23:00.000Z"]}}-->
I've opened the peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review/Arthur Gould (rugby union)/archive1. I am going to leave a few messages on people's talk pages asking them to contribute to the review. If you know any people that may be able to provide good feedback, then maybe you could add a quick note asking for their feedback? Often PR's linger without requesting feedback directly. I do have one question: the article states "No accurate records are available until 1886, but from 1887–98 Gould scored 136 tries and dropped 42 goals for Newport" -- the only source I have is [1] which lists his total (over all years). Is there a source you have for that statement? Or should we change it to match the Newport club's site? -- Shuddetalk08:15, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-11-30T08:15:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Shudde-2013-11-30T08:15:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-11-26T11:23:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
Hey. A further question. There is a discrepancy in the article regarding the 1885 match against England. Did Wales score two tries or one? -- Shuddetalk11:48, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-12-11T11:48:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Shudde-2013-12-11T11:48:00.000Z-Arthur_Gould_(again!)","replies":["c-Shudde-2014-01-08T11:55:00.000Z-Shudde-2013-12-11T11:48:00.000Z"]}}-->

Hey. It was from Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (url) -- but I have access to a login for it. There are a large number of Welsh biographies on that database actually. If there are other existing sources that can be used instead see here, then I'm fine to do that. I was actually going to message you sometime today. The Gould PR looks more or less done. There are a couple of remaining sourcing concerns to need to be fixed, but once that is done I think it's ready for FAC. I'll probably close the Peer Review in the next day or so as long as that is okay with you. -- Shuddetalk08:29, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2014-01-12T08:29:00.000Z","author":"Shudde","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Shudde-2014-01-12T08:29:00.000Z-Shudde-2014-01-08T11:55:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
Hello again. I archived the peer review, which I hope is okay by you, and have added a list of remaining things to do to the article's talk page. There are not actually that many, but there are some statements that need to be cited. I was hoping you could help with that? The other things I can deal with.
