Hello. I hope this is not too odd, as it is about something that happened a while ago and you may not remember. But it has been on my mind and it feels important to message you.

Last year in September, when I was early in doing AfC reviews, you sent me a message that said “Please stop reviewing academics at AfC, you clearly have no idea how to apply the guidelines”. You were correct in calling me out on not following guidelines for academics thoroughly, and I am thankful for that. But even though it was not overly aggressive, the attack on my abilities rather than my edits made me feel like I was not “good enough” to contribute to Wikipedia. I stopped editing for a few months after the message. Now I edit again, but I am hesitant to do AfC work and I get nervous when I have a notification on Wikipedia.

I understand that to someone with as experience as you, such a message might not have the same impact. But for a less experienced editor, the tone of such feedback is significant.

I see all the things you contribute and I want to be clear that I do not think badly of you at all, I am thankful for all that you do. But I wanted to share how that interaction affected me, and ask for more kindness and patience with other editors in the future.

Hello Notcharizard -- Thanks for having the courage to come to my talk page to raise this issue. My message was indeed overly abrupt -- I'm sorry it came over as aggressive, and even more sorry that it caused you to have to take a wikibreak. I actually do recall the whole Learned Society of Wales brouhaha, and in my defence, I was deeply annoyed at the notion (not yours) that someone volunteering for a learned society should be treated as a paid editor and have their contributions drummed off the 'pedia, and I fear that you got caught in the crossfire.

That said, Hywel R. Thomas in particular is extremely obviously notable; to someone versed in British academia it felt a bit like rejecting a draft on Donald Trump that stated he had been the President of the United States, as "not notable". There is a need to balance the feelings of the reviewer with the feelings of the creator, and in the case of a biography of a living person, the article subject.

To be honest, I've been reflecting on your message since I received it -- I don't have difficulty with being patient & AGFing like mad with new editors who are attempting to negotiate their earliest edits here, but I perhaps do have a history of being grumpy with editors who work in AfC, NPP and the various deletion processes when they make clear mistakes, because their good-faith but incorrect declines/deletion requests can be very offputting for the new editors who receive them. Anyway, food for thought. I will try to bear your words in mind going forwards, and I am genuinely glad that you are back editing now. User Talk:German198 has recently begun editing Super Sentai-adjacent articles. On one hand, they've been cutting some probably arbitrary milestones. On the other hand, they are scrubbing any mention of its adaptation into Power Rangers, calling such references "[unnecessary sentences]" or "false information". Said "false information" is reliably sourced.

When I pressed them on their reasoning, they said they did it because the show "is a shameless plagiarism and a rip off". (Never mind that the showmakers actually bought the rights to use the Sentai footage). I feel like I'm getting nowhere talking to them. So, what now? German198 appears very new and some of the content they've been removing appears unsourced. Also usually editors are given more latitude on the civility front on their own user talk pages, and here they are addressing the show rather than an editor. • Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
• Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.

@Jean-de-Nivelle: Sensible outcome, I think; sometimes a dash of IAR really is necessary to improve the encyclopedia. I had a quick look at Project Muse, which is generally the best bet on the Library for television topics, and found a lot of "iconic" mentions but not nearly enough detailed sourcing to support a separate article, though a more careful source search might well uncover such if you were interested. Wikipedia's EastEnders pages tend to be over-detailed and under-sourced. A lot of the information is "in universe" detail added incrementally by editors who watch the series, and as a result is difficult to source after the fact. That said, the loss of the page on the Queen Vic has left a big logical gap in our coverage of the soap. I don't watch it myself, so I'm not in a good position to rewrite the page, but I'm still hoping I can interest some of the regular EastEnders editors in helping out. I think it's worth saving in some form - I just hope I don't have to start scouring eBay for EastEnders annuals! I was very glad for the nudge to start writing down some of the likely-notable names and topics I’d love to get to eventually, or hand off to anyone else interested. I’ve begun that at User:Innisfree987/Red list. There are really so many that I started somewhat at random with named chairs in major US universities’ African-American studies departments. Half are women at the moment. I’ve just listed their title (for notability purposes), and that’s not terribly enticing I realize, but if you ever are looking for ideas, clicking through to see their faculty pages has more interesting info on their research interests. I’m also very happy to take requests—I noticed you’ve written about a number of virologists and other scientists in the past, so maybe I’d look for scientists next. Hi Innisfree987 -- Thanks for the link! I'm glad it proved a useful notion. I don't think I've ever tried African-American studies academics, but now I know just where to go! Indeed, I was once (many many moons ago) a virologist, and I probably write more bios of biomedical scientists than any other single topic, but if there's any topic that I'm all over it at the moment, it would probably be architects, if you happened to have any up your sleeve? I'm hoping to do some more musicians next year, and seem to have accidentally embarked a wee bit early with my current project. Hello Cuidro -- It looks as if the only significant remaining warning is for lack of sources, which remains true; everything in a biography of a living person should have an inline citation to a reliable source, though you can use the subject's CV (if hosted by their university)/university profile for basic material such as date of birth, dates in positions. It's more of a problem as here when the CV is hosted by the person themselves -- is there a copy hosted by one of their universities? I have marked some places where sources would be useful explicitly. I will take care of the orphan tag shortly.

One side-note, if you ask a question relating to an article, it's wise to assume that the person will edit the article in response, so don't edit it yourself for a while for fear of edit conflicts! I noticed that tonight you removed PROD tags from two articles (although there might have been more from other days). We don't have enough editors who will review PROD'd articles. Yesterday, we had 128 PROD'd articles, which is much higher than our usual 20-40 PROD'd articles/day and I had wished some editors had reviewed some of them before they were deleted.
