I particularly enjoyed your eloquent edit in the Melian Dialogue part of the article on Milos, though I think you should take into account that it may be a bit too much for a layman consulting Wikipedia. I will not edit it myself, I just wanted to let you know my opinion, just in case you come up with something even better.--FocalPoint07:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry for not getting back on the chat I promised you on the article. I'm presuming that you will pursue this, so here goes:
The article you wrote was much better than the one currently, I think we both agree on that. Apparently the problem then was that there was copyright infringment and the article was deleted. The problem now is that I can't verify any infringment because the url cited is now a deadlink (the situation occured nearly two years ago). As an admin, I can view the page, so I'll see if I can merge the deleted info (not the exact text) into the current article. Sr1306:51, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I placed reference to it at the beginning of the section, linking it to the article. Although genuinely interesting, I believe you gave too much importance to a minor portion of Shaw's colossal work.
Shaw was not an "unbeliever". He rejected the theologies of Christianity and other religions, but he believed firmly in a "Life Force" which benignly directed evolutionary development.

Hi Deipnosophista. My user name comes from the lesser used Anglicisation of the above. Gallowglass is too associated with the book of the same name and its modern connotations. Hope this answers your question. Cheers Galloglass00:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. Falklands War
While much of your efforts have improved the article, I would just draw your attention that you placed a [reference required] tag in the middle of a direct quote from a source. Justintalk22:36, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd corrected it already, just thought I'd make sure you were aware of it (if only to prevent the same mistake twice). Justintalk23:57, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome...the problem with Alexius I was that it had been moved and then the redirect was subsequently edited, so you couldn't move it back. I had to use my fancy admin buttons to do it properly.
I'm not sure what the conventional spellings are. They were all under Latinized spellings when I started editing, or because I created them, four or five years ago; a couple of years ago they were all moved to Greek spellings, after a lengthy but not very conclusive discussion. I see both spellings often, even in the most current scholarship, so I suppose it doesn't really matter, but I bet some people are going to be very offended that you've moved them back. Hi, I agree with you that it's definitely in that servant/master tradition, but for it to be included in a featured article, it really needs a citation. I've therefore had to remove it, but if you can find one it could certainly be included. Thanks. Bobtalk12:08, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit summary seems right to me, as a user of British English, but the change in the text seems to say the opposite. Am I missing the point? As Old Moonraker, this is an all-too-frequent occurrence now. Best. --Old Moonraker (talk) 17:02, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I found this one, but as most people in the south of England drop their h's on hotel (but perhaps not in 'artford 'ereford and 'ampshire ;) and don't use "an" anyway its "a onion init?" I'm not sure if this Oxford note is a useful indicator, although it is a reliable source. -- PBS (talk) 20:44, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for jumping in, but this page happens still to be on my watch list from a similar query, above. I've added a ref from Peters to the paragraph in question.--Old Moonraker (talk) 21:51, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's common knowledge: see eg Fowler's Modern English Usage, 1949 edition, p 238: "hotel: The old-fashioned pronunciation with the h silent (cf humble, humour, humorous, honorarium) is certainly doomed, and is not worth fighting for." Deipnosophista (talk) 21:45, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Deipnosophista! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
Thank you for your recent contributions to the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway article. In particular, please could I draw your attention to WP:DASH ("Do not space em dashes.") and WP:UNITS ("Numerical ranges use unspaced en dashes"). Once again, thank you for taking the time to contribute to Wikipedia. —Sladen (talk) 01:58, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've just been new page patrolling and came across your page (I have no idea why it took so long for someone to review it!) I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to read a fully-formed, well-sourced article that comes in out of the blue like that. The vast majority of new pages I review are either schoolchild pranks, advertising, or stubs with no context or references. Your article made my day! Dead links
I noticed your edits to Court leet. Nowadays, we don't just remove dead links (I vaguely remember that we used to - but no matter). Wikipedia:Link rot puts it thus Do not delete cited information solely because the URL to the source does not work any longer. WP:Verifiability does not require that all information be supported by a working link, nor does it require the source to be published online and gives practical advice at WP:KDL. Speedy deletion nomination of A Call To Action (British Catholic association)
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
Hello again, Deipnosophista, and thank you again for your contributions to the Wikipedia project.
You wrote
Dear Shirt58,
I created the page A Call To Action today, and am surprised that you added an advert tag to it. I'm very happy to alter the tone, but I'm struggling a bit to see what you find to be a problem. The topic, I recognise, is capable of being seen as controversial, and I have tried quite hard to be objective. Could you explain a bit more where you see material "like an advertisement" or "promotional content" or "inappropriate external links" or content not "written from a neutral point of view"?
I agree that I may have been somewhat over-zealous in applying Wikipedia's rather complex policies and guidelines at that point. Please do note that I also declined the speedy deletion of this article.
Does this answer your questions? Please let me know if it doesn't.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Jock Scott fly, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to contain material copied from http://www.fish4flies.com/Salmon_Atlantic/Fully_Dressed/Jock_Scott, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), version 3.0", or that the material is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Talk:Jock Scott fly with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Jock Scott fly saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
I am a bit surprised you have not responded to me or this issue by now. The Jock Scott is clearly worthy of a WP article and there are sufficient sources about to do it justice. We should probably change the title to Jock Scott (salmon fly) to align with our title and disambiguation guidelines. I will be happy to help pull the article together with you. Let me know! --Mike Cline (talk) 16:06, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'll let the copyvio folks sort this out, but if you compare the lead as you wrote it and the lead paragraph on the fish4flies website, all you did was rearrange the sentences. The entry was a classic example of close paraphrasing. But as I said, once the copyvio issues get sorted, the topic still deserves an article and I'll be happy to help with it. --Mike Cline (talk) 15:05, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to press the point, but the style was poor, especially the catachrestic use of "academia" and "due to". One has a duty to the reader to draft well, not sloppily. Deipnosophista (talk) 18:58, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by HitroMilanese was:
This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved.
If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:Hive.co.uk and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
If you now believe the draft cannot meet Wikipedia's standards or do not wish to progress it further, you may request deletion. Please go to Draft:Hive.co.uk, click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window, add "{{Db-g7}}" at the top of the draft text and click the blue "publish changes" button to save this edit.
If you do not make any further changes to your draft, in 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.
Hello, Deipnosophista!
Having an article declined at Articles for Creation can be disappointing. If you are wondering why your article submission was declined, please post a question at the Articles for creation help desk. Hello, Deipnosophista. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Hive.co.uk, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Draft space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for article space.
If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion under CSD G13. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it. You may request userfication of the content if it meets requirements.
If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available here.
Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to Bookshop (company). Since a draft is not yet ready for the main article space, it is not in shape for ordinary readers, and links from articles should not go to a draft. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. These links have been removed. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 11:08, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Deipnosophista! Your additions to Drum, County Roscommon have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.

If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
