MOS:COMMA

I have opened a new RFC at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style § RFC: Proposed amendment to MOS:COMMA regarding geographical references and dates. sroc 💬 08:32, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey, (first, I want to state that I hope I don't step on toes) but I just wanted to let you know that I changed back those dab's that you reverted as the fact that they have a red link is not a reason to revert. If you check out the disambiguation page here it states,

It may contain red links to help editors create articles on notable entries.

you will note that red links are ok as they increase the chance that the "red link" article will get created if someone sees that, otherwise it may never get created. Thanks for your fastidiousness regardless of the outcome. speednat (talk) 22:36, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

@Speednat: You quote from WP:Disambiguation from a sub-section specifically about set index articles, which are different from disambiguation pages. One of the significant differences is that they may contain redlinks. The guidance for redlinks on disambiguation pages can be found at WP:DABRL:
A link to a non-existent article (a "red link") should only be included on a disambiguation page when an article (not just disambiguation pages) also includes that red link.
Further guidance is at WP:DABMENTION:
If a topic does not have an article of its own, but is mentioned within another article, then a link to that article should be included. In this case, the link does not start the line, but it should still be the only blue wikilink.
Regards. olderwiser 00:27, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
understood, the only time I add section on dab pages is if I have just added the red link on an article page. All three of those or four... I am not sure how many were done.... but anyway, they are all within the article Amdo. If needed, I will write the articles, I just didn't have that on my plate for the day. Let me know is you want the articles started at least. I just felt that if I left them red someone with more knowledge on the subject might write the article. My knowledge on all of those is a bit weak. speednat (talk) 00:32, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
@Speednat: Basic idea is that disambiguation pages cannot introduce information that is not already present in other articles. Disambiguation pages are primarily intended to assist readers in navigating existing pages. olderwiser 00:34, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
actually they are not in that article. I am not sure what I was thinking. Give me a couple of days and I will write the article as I will need to do some research. speednat (talk) 00:48, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
Please try to be cooperative and think of this community as a team. I am trying to solve a problem that I saw while doing research on Tibet for the Amdo article, I noticed that the Lo People were not documented anywhere on the wiki, nor were their variations in spelling the Klo or Glo. So, to help out the future wiki readers and editors, I added what I felt was needed and helpful information. You, arbitrarily decided that i was not doing things the right way and reverted my changes without discussion and when I start a discussion, you still revert without waiting for me to try to fix things to your satisfaction. If you don't like the way things are going, with my edits, then discuss them with me as per most suggestions on the wiki. It is always easier to effect change by discussing and convincing someone of your POV rather than cramming it down their throat. I will try to fix the dab's to your satisfaction but in the future, please do not revert as I am trying to improve the wiki, and will change what I am doing if warranted to effect that change. speednat (talk) 22:16, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
I have now added the variation in spelling on the Lhoba people page and I sincerely hope that this helps solve the issue that you are having with my constructive changes. Please do not revert again, and if there is something else...please, please, please, talk to me and I will try to adhere to what you perceive as the correct way. speednat (talk) 22:23, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm glad you added information to the article. For the moment that is sufficient for inclusion on the disambiguation pages. But, do you have a reference for these alternate spellings/transliterations? Please understand that people make all sorts of claims on Wikipedia about things they think they know, some of them may be true and some not, but the information must be verifiable. And, as I've explained before, disambiguation pages cannot present information that is not supported by an existing article. olderwiser 02:14, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
When I go to my school library next week, I have the books on Tibet that I was using to write the article on Amdo. I will place references, then speednat (talk) 05:41, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

I would like to know why you are deleting the stayfree content ??

please can you tell me why you are deleting the content of Stayfree page .Are you working for Johnson and Johnson??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Getdpg (talkcontribs) 14:39, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Because your edits are re-writing the article to be country-specific (and are completely unreferenced and written like an advertisement). olderwiser 16:59, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

@Getdpg: Have you looked at the product web site, http://www.stayfree.com/ ? It clearly states it is published by McNeil PPC and that they are responsible for its content. McNeil is a consumer healthcare division of Johnson and Johnson. olderwiser 12:46, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Li surname (郦)

Hi Bkonrad, thanks for fixing the title capitalization of Li Surname (郦). Could you please further move the article to Li (surname 郦), as "surname" should be part of the disambiguator, like all other surname articles. I tried to do it myself but for some reason it's on the title blacklist. Thanks! -Zanhe (talk) 19:53, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Huron

On November 28th 2013, the links with the article "Huron" (disambiguation) were canceled on English articles whose title includes the word "Huron". There is certainly a good intention behind that action. Put in perpectives, that these links to disambiguation article may seem unnecessary to some people, but very useful for others.

On Wikipedia, desambiguation articles and links in the related articles help greatly users to navigate in this ocean of information. Homonym articles help particularly to understand the origin of the name or toponyms, and their interrelation. The word "Huron" is commonly used in many designations.

In my contribution to Wikipedia, much effort has been invested to make connections with disambiguation pages in different languages. It is regrettable that these links with English article "Huron" (disambiguation) have been deleted in related articles. Against my proposal is to restore these links with the English article "Huron" (disambiguation). Thanks to reconsider this initiative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Veillg1 (talkcontribs) 14:28, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

@Veillg1: It is not customary on English Wikipedia to add disambiguation hatnotes on articles where the title is not in fact ambiguous and only happens to include an ambiguous word (these are termed "partial title matches"). olderwiser 15:01, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

RE: Publius (journal)

Have you seen where that link leads?...to the Oxford University Press article, where the journal isn't even mentioned! What is anyone going to get out of that? In fact, I've nominated that redirect for deletion. WQUlrich (talk) 20:42, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

I see. I had assumed the journal was mentioned, but regardless, a disambiguation entry without any blue link is useless. olderwiser 20:53, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

About you moving Geuleon Neo (Disturbance)

Did you even open up the talk page? Cheers. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 15:16, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

@Raykyogrou0: Yes, and I don't see any clear support for what you did. And besides, as the proposer of the move, you have no business closing the move. olderwiser 00:39, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
I know admins usually close RMs but the outcome seemed clear to me since the discussion had shifted course. The name I requested to move it to made no more sense when someone else made it clear that the korean text (Geuleon Neo) does not mean "Disturbance" but something else. So per Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs#Style I suggested the alternative title Geuleon Neo (Disturbance) that no one opposed to. My message has been there for over a week so I decided that the wait has been long enough. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 02:35, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
It doesn't necessarily need an admin to close, just someone who is not a partisan in the discussion. Is there any reliable English-language source that refers to the song as "Geuleon Neo (Disturbance)"? If not, it appears to be an invention. olderwiser 02:38, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
I know that, but the discussion wasn't about moving it to Disturbance (song) anymore. No. At WP:SONG, it says that if the "title does not use the Latin alphabet, the article name should be the transliterated form of the title using Latin characters" "Geuleon Neo" is a romanization/transliteration of 그런 너. And "Geuleon Neo" does not translate to "Disturbance". As one user pointed out in the discussion, "Disturbance" is the English marketing name. But since the American iTunes also uses the Korean name (it's even in the url), the name of the song is "Geuleon Neo (Disturbance)". Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 03:16, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, i have been noticing that you are deleting my edits on the page ISD, i wrote International School of Dongguan, run by International School Services, you later deleted it and changed it to QSI, i know that the school QSI in dongguan exists, because i have been in it for 2 years, but there is another school called ISD run by International School Services that i am currently in, it does exist, i hope that you don't delete it because i am sure it exists, i am currently in this school. This is my fourth year living in dongguan, and i have spent all these 4 years in international schools, i know every international school in dongguan. If you don't believe this school exists, heres the website: www.i-s-d.org Also, Quality School International is QSI, and should be put under the page QSI, and not the page ISD. thank you for taking your time to read this message, i hope you can understand what i am trying to say here. Yours truly

@Longseeyes:The entry you added contains nothing but redlinks. An entry on a disambiguation page must contain a blue link to an article that supports the claimed usage of the ambiguous term. olderwiser 11:12, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

ok, sorry about that, ill check to see if a page could be made, perhaps you could help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Longseeyes (talkcontribs) 11:14, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

opps

opps, i found why all my links are red, the organization i was linking too was International Schools Services, but the first time, i wrote it as International School Services, without the s behind school, anyway, i have changed the problem, and it now as a blue link, this that acceptable? thanks!

Longseeyes — Preceding unsigned comment added by Longseeyes (talkcontribs) 11:25, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
@Longseeyes: Well, that's a start, but the International Schools Services article make no mention of the school in Dongguan. That is necessary to support the entry on the disambiguation page. I'll leave it alone for now, but you do need to somehow add that information to the article. olderwiser 11:33, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Help!

I think that if i can somehow add a link to the school's website, i can solve that problem, thing is, i am fairly new as a wikipedia editor, and I don't know how to add references, can you help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Longseeyes (talkcontribs) 11:39, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Dabs

Hi B, Re this edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=TBB&diff=585849952&oldid=585848314 , are you aware that the example in MOS:DABORDER shows the miscellaneous entries near the top of the page rather than in a "Other" section? (I only realised that when one of my edits was reverted). Maybe that part of the MOS should be changed, but, in the meantime, W's restructuring is actually correct. However, the rest of what W's doing is clearly a problem. As (s)he's continuing after a talk page message and what must by now be a large number of reversions I'm wondering whether something like WP:RFC/U might be appropriate. DexDor (talk) 06:07, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

The example is not very illustrative of a miscellaneous list. The example as given only shows a short list of uses followed by a list of people with the surname (which actually illustrates a different point under MOS:DABNAME, where a list of persons with a name or surname can be included below the other entries). If you look at Moss (disambiguation) now, it does not match the example. I'm not sure an WP:RFC/U is needed just yet, more discussion on his/her talk page would be appropriate, IMO. olderwiser 12:48, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
