He was first appointed to the Supreme Court in 2001, and served until June 2002, when he took up the position of special counsel to the Commissioner of Taxation until December 2003. He was appointed to the Supreme Court again in May 2007, and was the judge in charge of the Commercial Court.[9] He is a professorial fellow at the University of Melbourne.[10]
The Honorable Tony Pagone QC was appointed as Commissioner to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety on 13 September 2019.
In 2022, Pagone was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2022 Australia Day Honours for "significant service to the law, to the judiciary, and to professional associations".[11]
