As of 2011[update]census, the mandal had a population of 54,081. The total population constitute, 26,791 males and 27,290 females —a sex ratio of 1019 females per 1000 males. 5,403 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 2,758 are boys and 2,645 are girls —a ratio of 959 per 1000. The average literacy rate stands at 66.93% with 32,578 literates.[2]km
The mandal plays a major role in education for the rural students of the nearby villages. The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.[10] As per the school information report for the academic year 2015–16, the mandal has more than 6,491 students enrolled in over 61 schools.[11][12]
