The Blue Shrimp is a seafood restaurant in Zona Romántica, Puerto Vallarta, in the Mexican state of Jalisco. It was established on Morelos Street in 1999, and relocated to Playa de los Muertos in 2010.

Description

In her 2020 Moon guide for Puerto Vallarta, Madeline Milne describes The Blue Shrimp as a "sophisticated palapa-style restaurant with beautiful natural decor".[1] The interior features "relics of ancient ships" and walls resembling reefs. Aquariums and blue lights also contribute to the nautical theme. The bathrooms are shaped like shells.[2] Fodor's says, "The Blue Shrimp is a beautiful beachfront thatched-roof palapa restaurant right on the heart of the Zona Romántica. This is one of the go-to place for expats living in the area and tourists who want to try the famous Mexican seafood cuisine. The Blue Shrimp serves delicious dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and some of the best cocktails in PV. For lunch, you may want to try the Campechano Cocktail, which comes with a mix of shrimp and octopus, while the lobster enchiladas are a must for dinner."[3][4]

The menu features fish (including mahi mahi and tuna), and the restaurant has a salad bar.[2] The Blue Shrimp has also served bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese, guacamole, and the shrimp boat, which has calamari, ceviche, coconut, diabla shrimp, garlic bread, and tequila, served in a small boat.[5]

The restaurant was established in 1999 and originally located on Morelos street. It relocated to Playa de los Muertos in 2010.[6] The Blue Shrimp participated in Restaurant Week in 2018.[7] The restaurant has served special dinners for Christmas and New Year's Eve.[8][9]

Reception

Debora Mestre of The Infatuation wrote, "Delicious seafood, great margaritas, and a front-row view of the beach: The Blue Shrimp checks a lot of boxes for a casual group dinner. Get a frozen mango margarita when you sit down, enjoy the incredible people-watching, and order as many dishes as you can share."[5] She included the restaurant in the website's 2023 overview of Puerto Vallarta's best bars and restaurants.[10] The American Automobile Association has given The Blue Shrimp a three-diamond rating and has described the restaurant as "the spot for shrimp lovers".[11]
