Template talk:Toronto landmarks

I question the need for this template. "Landmark" is an inherenetly POV term. - SimonP 06:10, Dec 29, 2004 (UTC)

Seconded; I would consider, say, the Eaton Centre more of a landmark than a cathedral I've never been to. But that's my subjective, POV opinion. Radagast 18:17, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

I never understood why there was any opposition to this template. I created it modelled on the template for Atlanta landmarks and I think it should be expanded to other cities. J2rome 06:27, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2005-07-19T06:27:00.000Z","author":"J2rome","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-J2rome-2005-07-19T06:27:00.000Z","replies":["c-Captmondo-2005-10-25T17:04:00.000Z-J2rome-2005-07-19T06:27:00.000Z"]}}-->

For what it is worth, I think this is a good idea. POV or no, it is genuinely *useful*. And I think it is understood that these places are inherently "visit-able", and the scope is "building-sized".
Am thinking of amending it so to group together more like items, i.e. Museums/Zoo, Cathedrals, Transportation Hubs, Public Buildings, etc. Any objections? Perhaps there should be some kind of procedure in place for adding new landmarks. Not everyone may agree, but if those who are interested on keeping the template up to date have a say, it'll at least seem more fair. Or at the least, just some guidelines? --coldacid 17:18, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2005-11-10T17:18:00.000Z","author":"Coldacid","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Coldacid-2005-11-10T17:18:00.000Z-Captmondo-2005-10-25T17:04:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

I have added these two articles into the template, but DoubleBlue had deleted them. These places are landmarks because they are indeed unique, since they are museums featuring footwear and ceramics respectively. If Atlanta's World of Coca-Cola for example is a landmark, then Bata Shoe Museum would definitely be a landmark. DoubleBlue, explain how some places, such as Robarts Library, Honest Ed's, or Sam the Record Man, are landmarks. If Robarts Library is a landmark, then the Toronto Reference Library would definitely be a landmark. If the Toronto Islands are a landmark, why are the Scarborough Bluffs not a landmark, since the sediment from these bluffs created these islands, or Leslie Street Spit? If the Royal Alexandra Theatre is a landmark, why are the Poor Alex Theatre or the Bloor Cinema not landmarks? If Nathan Phillips Square is a landmark, why not Mel Lastman Square? If San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, London's Tower Bridge, Sydney's Harbour Bridge and New York City's Brooklyn Bridge are all landmarks, how about the Prince Edward Viaduct, the Leaside Bridge, or the Hogg's Hollow Bridge? How are parks landmarks? If they are not landmarks, then remove them. According to the Dutch language Wikipedia, those are two of our landmarks.

Start scrapping Greektown because Malta Village is taking over!

Little Mogadishu and Malta Village are still both smaller than Greektown, even if combined. This meant that Greektown should be kept, since it is a tourist attraction. The Dutch Wikipedia has a different objective than the English one does. I was making a (very weak) joke, Johnny.
Little Malta, I assume, is that area on Dupont where the street twists underneath the railway overpass. Years ago, I saw a TTC bus jammed in the underpass.
I have no idea where Little Mogadishu might be. I should just ask the Dutch!

Um.. Is Scarborough Town Centre really a landmark? No, I really don't think so. It sure is a local attraction, but when someone visits Toronto, Scarborough Town Centre usually isn;t on the top of their list... I'm removing it, but if you really think it's an attraction, add it back. It is just a local attraction, as Scarborough Town Centre is no different from most suburban malls (despite the fact that it contains Scarborough's Walk of Fame, which is considered local interest).
