Deborah Evans Price, of Billboard magazine reviewed the song unfavorably, questioning why Black would want to "waste his time composing refried Beach Boys music like this?" She concludes the review by saying that it sounds like Black "has been spending a little too much time in the sun."[1]
Music video
The music video for "Summer's Comin'" was directed by Clint Black. It premiered on CMT on March 29, 1995 during "The CMT Delivery Room." The video begins with a man, played by actor and TV personality Howie Mandel, skipping out from his job on a beautiful day and driving to a beach. Meanwhile, Clint Black is shown singing and playing guitar on a beach. He then approaches a woman, but every woman he approaches turns out to be a man. The video also shows shots of Clint Black singing and playing guitar on the beach. At the end of the video, Clint Black's real-life wife, Lisa Hartman Black, waves as she climbs off of a personal water craft and begins running towards him. After opening his arms, assuming that she's running to him, Mandel is surprised when she shoves him aside and runs to Black instead. Black turns to Mandel and says, "Don't even think about it." As Mandel appears heartbroken, actor Joey Lawrence pops up in front of the camera and utters his signature catchphrase, "Whoa!"
