The school converted to academy status in October 2013 and is sponsored by the Ormiston Academies Trust.
In late 2018, the school was involved in a scandal in which an adult asylum seeker aged approximately 30 attended classes purporting to be a 15-year-old boy.[2][3]
The current head master of the school, or principle as they are referred to, is Karen Baldwin. She aims to let the former head teacher, Andrew Robinson's, dream of Stoke becoming the 'best school in Ipswich' a reality. French teacher, Claire Welsby agrees saying in an interview 'oui, je suis d'accord'.
In 2024, the school decided it would be a good idea to install a pig farm on site. PE teacher Paul Tankard strongly believes that working around animals is a great way for kids to learn about pig rearing, which knowledge thereof is dangerously scarce.
