Stephan van den Berg (born 20 February 1962) is a retired windsurfer from the Netherlands .[ 1] He was world champion in 1983 and in the 1984 Summer Olympics , Long beach, California won the first Olympic Gold medal[ 2] [ 3] [ 4] in the Windglider for the Netherlands .[ 5] [ 6] [ 7] [ 8] [ 9] [ 10] [ 11] [ 12] After that he turned professional and therefore missed the 1988 Olympics. He returned to amateurs to compete at the 1992 Olympics ,[ 13] [ 14] Barcelona [ 15] where he finished in seventh place in the Men's Lechner A-390 .[ 16]
