The president of the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), formally referred to as the president of the National Executive Committee of the National Regeneration Movement, holds the highest leadership position within the party. The current president is Luisa María Alcalde Luján, who assumed office on 1 October 2024.
MORENA was established on 2 October 2011, initially as a civil association, and was formalized as a political party on 9 July 2014.[1] Since its establishment as a civil association in 2012 and subsequently as a Mexican political party in 2014, MORENA has been led by six presidents.
Selection process
Party presidents are chosen during the party's national congresses. At these congresses, delegates from all 32 Mexican states—who are themselves elected through internal party elections—come together to vote for key leadership positions, including the party president and the secretary general.[2][3]
