Saint John the Baptist Parish Laveen, the Saint Johns Mission, is in Komatke. The name is taken from the mission school founded by the Franciscans in 1894.[6] It has an estimated elevation of 1,030 feet (310 m) above sea level.[7]
As of the census[9][10] of 2000, there were 1,174 people, 241 households, and 218 families residing in Komatke. The population density was 227.3 inhabitants per square mile (87.8/km2). There were 256 housing units at an average density of 49.6 per square mile (19.2/km2). The racial makeup of Komatke is 1.6% White, 0.1% Black or African American, 93.6% Native American, <0.1% Asian, <0.1% Pacific Islander, and 2.3% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. 15.8% of the population were Hispanic of any race.
