Bakkelund began his career as a Junior in 2011. Since then, he won both raw and equipped world titles, including one at the 2022 World Powerlifting Championships which were held in Viborg, Denmark. In 2022, he brought home a gold medal from the 2022 World Games. Following his switching between raw and equipped lifting throughout his career, Bakkelund decided to focus on raw meets.[3] He competed at both 2023 IPF Classic World Championships in Malta and at the European Powerlifting Federation's Classic Championships where he got a gold medal for lifting 907.5 kg.[4] As a result of his competition, Bakkelund broke both IPF Raw Deadlift and Total World Records in 74 kg lifting.[3][5]
