Kelsey Teneti (born 12 May 2003) and is a contracted New Zealand 7srugby union player and athlete.

Early career

Teneti attended her last 2 years at Hamilton Girls' High School. She was an age-grade hockey player representing Poverty Bay in all grades and represented NZ Maori both in the U21 and Women's teams from the age of 13. In waka ama she had a NZ National sprints J16 singles title and won National and world titles in her 6 man and double hull events with her Horouta team and topped this off with a World 6 man Long distance title race in Australia in 2016.[1] Kelsey was also a National Judo Champion in 2013 in both the +36 kg and Open Junior girls categories [2]

Rugby career

Spending her last 2 years of school at HGHS Teneti played for Waikato in the Farah Palmer Cup in 2020 and 2021.[3] In 2021 Teneti was named in the Chiefs squad for their historic match against the Blues at Eden Park in April.[4] Teneti was Awarded the Waitomo Chiefs Rookie of the year in 2021 as well as Waikato Supporters Club FPC Back of the year and Waitomo Group Farah Palmer Cup Player of the Year https://www.facebook.com/mooloo/posts/2021-gallagher-waikato-rugby-awards-congratulations-to-all-of-our-winners-dale-c/10160390683961318/and was nominated for NZRPA women's young player of the year in 2021.

2022 Teneti was contracted to the Black Ferns sevens team straight out of high school at the age of 18 and made her debut in Dubai at the HSBC 7s in December 2022. sevens[3] Kelsey featured in the 2022, 86th edition of the Rugby Almanack book as the most promising player of the year.

Teneti was called in as an injury cover for the Black Ferns squad for the 2022 Pacific Four Series.[5][3] She made her international debut on 6 June 2022 against Australia at Tauranga.[6][7]

2023

In 2023, she was named in the Black Ferns side to compete in the Pacific Four Series and O’Reilly Cup.[8][9] In July, she scored a try in her sides 21–52 victory over Canada at the Pacific Four Series in Ottawa.[10][11]
