In this Malay name, there is no surname or family name. The name Erih is a patronymic, and the person should be referred to by their given name, Mohd Janin. The word "bin" or "binti"/"binte" means 'son of' or 'daughter of', respectively.
Janin was born on 18 June 1949. He holds several academic credentials from British universities, including an MBA. He has spent the most of his career working in the educational sector,[2] such as being a lecturer at the Sixth Form Centre in c. 1979.[3] From 1986 until 2004, he worked at the University of Brunei Darussalam in a variety of roles, the last of which was Assistant Vice Chancellor from 2002 to 2004. From 1982 to 1986, he was employed by the Ministry of Education, serving from 1985 to 1986 as the unit's head of building planning. In 1976, he began working as an educational officer.[2]
