Mauigoa attended high school at Aquinas. In his senior season, he would throw for 1,113 yards and 10 touchdowns while also rushing for 475 yards and four touchdowns. Mauigoa would also notch 46 tackles with five going for a loss and an interception.[1] Mauigoa would commit to play college football for the Washington State Cougars as a linebacker.[2][3]
College career
Washington State
In Mauigoa's first career season in 2021, he totaled 17 tackles with half of a tackle being for a loss.[4] In week four of the 2022 season versus Oregon, Mauigoa intercepeted a pass and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown.[5] During the 2022 season, Mauigoa started in eleven games notching 60 tackles with five and a half going for a loss, three and a half sacks, an interception, and three forced fumbles.[6] After the conclusion of the 2022 season, Mauigoa would deicde to enter the NCAA transfer portal.[7][8]
Miami
Mauigoa would decide to transfer to play for the Miami Hurricanes.[9][10] In week one of the 2023 season, Mauigoa tallied a team-leading five tackles in a win over Miami (Ohio).[11] In week six, Mauigoa notched four tackles with one and a half going for a loss, and an interception against Georgia Tech.[12] For Mauigoa's performance on the 2023 season he was named second team All ACC.[13][14]
