Fordo (Persian: فردو; Persian pronunciation: [foɾˈdow] or [foɾˈdo])^[a] is a village in Fordo Rural District of Fordo District, Kahak County, Qom province, Iran, serving as capital of the district.^[4] It is near the Shia holy city of Qom.^[5]^[6]

Demographics

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the village's population was 732 in 230 households, when it was in the former Nofel Loshato District of Qom County.^[7] The following census in 2011 counted 667 people in 227 households.^[8] The 2016 census measured the population of the village as 839 people in 303 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district.^[2]

After the census, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Kahak County, and the rural district was transferred to the new Fordo District.^[4]

In September 2009, it was revealed that Iran had a second uranium enrichment plant near the village of Fordo.^[10]
