As of 2001[update] India census,[12] Dhaunsar had a population of 9,205. Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Dhaunsar has an average literacy rate of 48%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 59% and, female literacy is 35%. In Dhaunsar, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Collieries functioning in the Kusunda Area of BCCL are: Basuriya, East Basuriya, Gondidih, Khas Kusunda, Kusunda, Industry, Godhur and Dhansar.[13]
Transport
State Highway 12 (Jharkhand), locally popular as Jharia Road, passes through Dhaunsar.[14]
There used to be a railway station in Dhansar falls in Dhanbad-Jharia-Patherdih route. But now it's no more because that section has been dismantled in 2007 and the station is also no more.
