Cezary Skubiszewski

Cezary Jan Skubiszewski (born 1948) is a Polish-born Australian film and television composer. He composed film scores for Red Dog, Two Hands, The Sapphires and TV series Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Career

Skubiszewski first made his mark composing the score for Jerzy Domaradzki's Lilian's Story. He has worked with many Australian directors, composing scores for Gregor Jordan's Two Hands, Tony MacNamara's The Rage in Placid Lake and Gillian Armstrong's Death Defying Acts. Skubiszewski won awards from the Australian Film Institute (AFI) for Bootmen and La Spagnola.[1]

Skubiszewski also co-composed the music to the Australian Army's "Rise" recruiting campaign,[2] Carlton Draught's 'Big Ad' and 'VB Symphony'.

Personal life

Cezary Jan Skubiszewski was born in 1948 in Poland,[3] he was naturalised as an Australian citizen in August 1978.[4] Skubiszewski's mother was a classical pianist and he took lessons from age eight.[5] During his teen years he joined jazz groups and rock bands.[5] He is the father of actress, film director and writer Viva Bianca and of composer/producer Jan Skubiszewski, with whom he regularly collaborates on film and TV scores. Awards and nominations

APRA Music Awards

The APRA Music Awards are sets of annual awards to celebrate excellence in contemporary music, which honour the skills of member composers, songwriters and publishers who have achieved outstanding success in sales and airplay performance. They are presented by APRA AMCOS (Australasian Performing Right Association and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society), which commenced in 1982.[7] The APRA Awards include the Screen Music Awards, which were first presented in 2002 by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC).[8][9] The APRA Awards also include the Art Music Music Awards (formerly Classical Music Awards), which are distributed by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre (AMC) since 2001.[10]
