Hough played in the youth team at non-league side Runcorn Linnets until under-10 level, before signing for Oldham Athletic in June 2013, after scoring over 30 goals during the 2012–13 season.[3] He progressed through the youth system to sign a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2019, having already played for the under-18's whilst still a schoolboy.[4] He made his first team debut whilst still a second-year scholar at the age of 17 on 22 September 2020, when he started in the 4–0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers under-21's in the EFL Trophy group stage.[2][5] Despite this, it was announced in May 2021 that he would not be signing a professional contract and that he would be released at the end of his scholarship.[6]
Following his release he signed for Northern Premier League Premier Division side Warrington Town in early 2021, having spent pre-season with the club and also received a recommendation from former Oldham player, Ben Garrity.[7] He made his debut for the Yellows in a 2–0 win over FC United of Manchester.[7] In October 2021, he won the Goal of the Month award for his strike in the 3–0 win over Stalybridge Celtic at Cantilever Park.[8] He made 24 appearances in all competitions with his final appearance for the club coming in the play-offs semi-final penalties defeat to South Shields in April 2022.[9]
In June 2022, he signed for fellow NPL Premier Division side Ashton United, becoming their fifth signing of the summer.[10] He was joined at Hurst Cross by fellow Warrington player, Matthew Regan, who had made the switch earlier in the summer.[10]
