The plot revolves around the complex love–hate relationship between three characters, Arya (Allu Arjun), an obsessive but well meaning man; Ajay (Navdeep), Arya's childhood friend and a businessman; and Geetha (Kajal Aggarwal), a woman working at Ajay's company, whom both Arya and Ajay love.
The film theatrically released on 27 November 2009.
Plot
Two orphans, Ajay and Arya, meet at an orphanage, where Arya forces a friendship with Ajay, growing possessive while Ajay secretly despises him. A rich family grows fond of both, but can only adopt one. They toss a coin, and Arya lets Ajay win. Ajay becomes a successful businessman, while Arya remains reckless. When thugs trouble Ajay, Arya injures them using surgical instruments and gets arrested. Ajay bails him out, but their car crashes due to Arya’s reckless driving. Arya demands a job at Ajay's company in exchange for his life, and Ajay reluctantly agrees, with the condition that Arya reforms.
Arya transforms into a hardworking, sophisticated businessman and gains respect at Ajay’s company. Shanti, a colleague, develops a crush on Arya, but he rebuffs her advances. Both Ajay and Arya fall for Geetha, a new employee. While Ajay hides his feelings, Arya continuously confesses his love for her. Geetha, disturbed by Arya’s obsessive behavior, tries to expose him but fails. Eventually, she emotionally manipulates Arya into confessing his love, then confesses to Ajay to rid herself of Arya. Ajay, knowing Geetha doesn’t truly love him, frames Arya for a car crash, hoping Geetha will love him instead.
As Ajay and Geetha grow closer, Arya decides to help them get married. However, Geetha’s violent family forces her into an arranged marriage to settle a gang feud. Arya travels to her village to bring her back and prevent the wedding. After saving Geetha from a gang fight, Arya marries her to protect her from the arranged marriage, while secretly planning to reunite her with Ajay. Back home, Arya realizes his father-in-law read his diary revealing Ajay and Geetha’s plan. He rushes to the station to save Ajay from being killed by Geetha’s father, Raji Reddy. In a dramatic turn, Arya makes Kashi Reddy hold Geetha hostage to secure Ajay’s release. Arya and Subbi, a friend of Geetha’s, help the trio escape, arranging passports for Ajay and Geetha. Arya demands one final day with them, feeling they’ve never truly considered him a friend. Geetha grows fond of Arya, and Ajay changes their destination to Australia to prevent Arya from finding them.
As the escape plan unfolds, Geetha confesses to Ajay that she called her father to come clean about their relationship. Raji Reddy arrives and beats Ajay, and Arya threatens to kill Geetha. Raji Reddy tries to stab Ajay, but Arya steps in front and gets stabbed. At the hospital, Arya asks Ajay to press a button, causing the oxygen supply to stop, but Ajay presses it without ill intentions. Arya is saved, but Geetha slaps Ajay. Arya apologizes in secret, and Ajay realizes that Arya’s love for Geetha was genuine. Ajay leaves with a smile, accepting their love.
The soundtrack and background score were composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The music was released on 1 November 2009 at Rock Heights, Madhapur, Hyderabad. The audio rights of the soundtrack were purchased by Sony Music India. It was also recorded in Malayalam and Hindi.[2] The tracks "Ringa Ringa", "Uppenantha Prema" and "My Love Is Gone" topped the music charts. The song "Ringa Ringa" received a cult status. The music of the song was re-used by Devi Sri Prasad in the Salman Khan's film, Ready as "Dhinka Chika". And it was also re-used in Kannada movie 5 Idiots.
Jeevi of Idlebrain.com rated the film three out of five and wrote that "On a whole, Arya 2 is a different film that can appeal to A centers and class crowds".[6]Rediff.com rated the film two out of five stars stating that "It's only the first half of the film which makes for interesting viewing, otherwise the film is the usual routine stuff interspersed with some good dances and slick technical work".[7]
Release
Arya 2 was released in 1000 screens worldwide. It was also dubbed in Malayalam under the same title, in Odia as I Love You Geeta , in Hindi as Arya: Ek Deewana (2010) and was remade under the title Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay in Bengali
Box office
The film grossed ₹25 crore (US$2.9 million) in its first week, including ₹18 crore (US$2.1 million) from Nizam area.[citation needed] However the film was affected when its screening was halted in Telangana region due to Telangana Agitation.[8]
The film was dubbed into Malayalam with the same title, and released across Kerala on 5 February 2010 with 100 prints and was successful in the state.
