Ankhi Mukherjee
Indian literary professor
Ankhi Mukherjee is an academic specialising in Victorian and Modern English literature, critical theory and postcolonial and world literature. In 2015, she was appointed a Professor of English and World Literatures by the University of Oxford.
Career
After studying in India and the UK, Ankhi Mukherjee received a doctor of philosophy degree (PhD) from Rutgers University in the United States. She was visiting lecturer at Royal Holloway College in London between 2001 and 2002, and for the next academic year took up a post at Wadham College, Oxford, as an English lecturer. From 2003 to 2006, she was a post-doctoral research fellow with the British Academy and subsequently took up a post as a tutorial fellow at Wadham and, in 2014, was a visiting fellow at the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian National University. In 2015, she was awarded the title of Professor of English and World Literatures by the University of Oxford. Mukherjee also chaired the Preliminary Examinations board in the 2012–13 academic year.[1][2] In 2015, she was awarded the Rose Mary Crawshay Prize by the British Academy.[3]
Works
Mukherjee's first book, Aesthetic Hysteria (2007), focused on Victorian literature. drawing on English literature from across the world, her second work, What is a Classic? (2014) studied the way that classic works of literature "emanate from postcolonial histories and societies"; the book won the British Academy's Mary Crawshay Prize for English Literature in 2015.[4] A list of her works are included below:[1]
