Andover is a city in Clinton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 109 at the 2020 census.^[2]

History

Andover was platted in 1886, and incorporated as a town in 1910.^[3] It was named by a railroad official after Andover, Vermont.^[4]

Andover's population was 83 in 1925.^[5] The population was 76 in 1940.^[6]

As of the census of 2020,^[10] there were 109 people, 35 households, and 28 families residing in the city. The population density was 608.5 inhabitants per square mile (234.9/km²). There were 39 housing units at an average density of 217.7 per square mile (84.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.5% White, 0.0% Black or African American, 0.0% Native American, 0.0% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.0% from other races and 5.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 0.0% of the population.

Of the 35 households, 45.7% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% were married couples living together, 8.6% were cohabitating couples, 2.9% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 22.9% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 20.0% of all households were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals, 0.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.

The median age in the city was 32.5 years. 36.7% of the residents were under the age of 20; 3.7% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 29.4% were from 25 and 44; 20.2% were from 45 and 64; and 10.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 54.1% male and 45.9% female.

There were 38 households, of which 47.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.9% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.15.

There were 39 households, out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 23.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.77.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.4% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
