Fire and sinking

At around 3 a.m. a boat carrying Haitian migrants traveling illegally from the port of Labadee in Fort Saint-Michel en route to the Turks and Caicos Islands in the United Kingdom on a 150-mile (250-kilometer) journey caught fire after a passenger lit a candle to start a voodoo ritual, causing two explosions on board off the northern coast of Haiti making the boat sink.[6][7][8] 40 Haitian migrants were killed including the captain of the boat and 41 others were rescued by the Haitian coast guard. 11 injured people were sent to nearby hospitals, of which at least several were burn-related injuries.[9]
