2019–20 San Jose Sharks season
Professional ice hockey team season
The 2019–20 San Jose Sharks season was the 29th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 9, 1990.[ 2]
The season was suspended by the league officials on March 12, 2020, after several other professional and collegiate sports organizations followed suit as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic .[ 3] [ 4] On May 26, the NHL regular season was officially declared over with the remaining games being cancelled and the Sharks missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2014–15 season , and only the second time since 2002–03 .[ 5]
Regular season
The Sharks lost their season opener 4–1 to the Vegas Golden Knights on October 2. Erik Karlsson missed the game due to the birth of his daughter.[ 6] [ 7] They fired Peter DeBoer and hired Bob Boughner on December 11, 2019.
