    اللتر أحد وحدات قياس الحجم. 1 لتر يعادل حجم مكعب طول ضلعه 10 سنتيمتر.

    هو وحدة قياس الحجم الرسمية عالميّا. منذ سنة 1964 صار تعريفه مساويًا لـ : 1 ديسيمتر مكعب الذي يعادل 1000 سنتيمتر مكعب.

    علميا اللتر يساوي الحجم الذي تحتله كمية 1 كيلوغرام من الماء النقي عند درجة حرارة 3.98 مئوية (درجة الحرارة هذه تكون عندها كثافة الماء أعلى ما يمكن للماء، حيث يتمدد الماء عندما تقل درجة حرارته حتى يصل إلى الصفر المئوي ويتحول إلى ثلج) .[7]

    فيمتو لتر

    فيمتو لتر هو جزء من مليون مليار جزء من اللتر أي (عشرة مرفوعة للقوة -15). ويستخدم الفيمتو لتر لقياس حجم الخلايا. وكما هو المقياس المستخدم لقياس حجم كريات الدم الحمراء في الحجم الكروي الوسطي.
