O laurelero (Laurus nobilis (Linnaeus, 1753)[3]) ye una especie de planta d'a orden d'os Laurales y familia Lauraceae que ye orichinaria d'a rechión mediterrania y se fa servir a suya fuella pa apanyar en a gastronomia. Seguntes o poeta Luciano, a sacerdotisa d'o templo d'Apolo conoixida como Pitia suposadament mascaba fuellas de laurelero d'un arbol sagrau que creixeba adintro d'o templo pa inducir o suyo trance a partir d'o cual pronunció as profezias oraculars per as cuals yera famosa.[4]

En a cultura romana, lo laurelero yera un simbolo de victoria. Tamién s'asoció con a immortalidat, con a purificación ritual, a prosperidat y la salut.[5]

Os antigos romanos creyeban que os laurelers yeran immunes a los rayos, lo que brindaba protección a qui os brandiban. Una d'as razons d'ista creyencia ye que o laurelero no se crema facilment y petarria con fuerza cuan ye cremau. Levó a los antigos romanos a creyer que la planta yera habitada per un "demonio de fuego celestial" y, per tanto, yera "immune" a menazas externas como lo fuego u mesmo los rayos.[6]
