'n Unesco-wêrelderfenisgebied is 'n spesifieke plek (soos 'n woud, bergreeks, meer, woestyn, gebou of stad) wat benoem is vir die internasionale wêrelderfenisprogram wat deur Unesco bedryf word.[1]

Die program poog om terreine van besondere belang, kultureel of natuurlik, te katalogiseer, genoem en bewaar vir die gemene erfenis van die mensdom.[2] Plekke op die lys kan fondse vanuit die Wêrelderfenisfonds ontvang onder sekere omstandighede. Die program is gestig deur die Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage wat aangeneem is deur die Algemene Konferensie van Unesco op 16 November 1972.[3] Sedertdien het 192 lande hierdie konvensie geratifiseer, wat dit een van die mees voldoende internasionale instrumente ter wêreld maak. Net Liechtenstein, Nauru, Somalië en Tuvalu is geen party van die konvensie nie.[4]

Teen 2023 is altesaam 1 199 gebiede ingesluit in die lys, waarvan 933 kultureel, 227 natuurlik en 39 gemengde plekke in 168 Staatspartye is.[5][6] Italië het tans met 59 die meeste wêrelderfenisgebiede, gevolg deur die Volksrepubliek China (57), Duitsland en Frankryk (52 elk), Spanje (50), Indië (42), Meksiko (35) en die Verenigde Koninkryk (33).[n 1] Daar is tans tien wêrelderfenisgebiede in Suid-Afrika.[7]
