Morfologie (biologie)

Die begrip morfologie het verskeie betekenisse afhanklik van die tak van die biologie wat dit gebruik.

Plantkundiges maak 'n duidelike en formele onderskeid tussen plantmorfologie en plantanatomie. Die eersgenoemde verwys na die heelplantvorm en die organisasie van dele, laasgenoemde na die fynstruktuur, of histologie, van dele. Dierkundiges is vaer in hul gebruik van hierdie terme. Morfologie "handel oor die vorm van lewende organismes, en oor verwantskappe tussen hul strukture". Dit is van die Griekse stam morpho- afgelei, wat vorm beteken. Anatomie is "die wetenskap van die struktuur van die liggame van mense, diere en plante" is (afgelei van die Grieks stam -tomie, wat "sny" beteken en die voorsetsel ana- wat op herhaling dui. [1]
