Zamrud

Zamrud berbentuk segi enam.

Zamrud (Be3Al2SiO6) adalah batu permata atau batu mulia yang berwarna hijau sampai hijau tua. Zamrud termasuk mineral silikat beril (mengandung beryllium) dan warna hijaunya disebabkan oleh kelumit kromium. Adanya vanadium dan besi yang menyertai kelumit kromium akan menyebabkan ragam zona pada warna hijau tersebut. Kekerasan zamrud termasuk tinggi (7,5 dalam skala Mohs).

Penghasil zamrud kualitas tinggi adalah Kolombia, Siberia, Afrika Selatan, Zimbabwe, dan Brasil. Saat ini tambang batu zamrud di Rusia (Siberia), sudah di tutup karena minimnya deposit yang ada di dalamnya. Penambangan batu di Brazil dan Kolombia masih terus dilakukan, dimana lebih dari 60% batu zamrud yang dijual di pasaran berasal dari Kolombia.

Batu zamrud yang berasal dari Kolombia tidak semuanya berkualitas tinggi, ada juga yang berkualitas rendah. Batu berkualitas rendah ini sering kali memiliki banyak cacat berupa crack atau retakan yang ada di dalamnya.

Untuk mempercantik tampilan batu zamrud yang cacat tersebut, biasanya pedagang akan memberikan treatment oiling. Adanya minyak (oil) yang menutupi celah retakan pada batu zamrud akan membuat cacatnya menjadi tidak terlihat kasat mata. Tetapi apabila minyak tersebut menguap atau tersapu oleh air maka crack akan kembali tampak.

Treatment pemberian minyak ini disebut dengan CE (Clarity Enchancement). Ada 3 tingkatannya, yaitu Major, Moderate dan Minor. Batu zamrud yang memiliki banyak cacat masuk ke dalam kategori Major. Biasanya jika tidak sering diberi minyak, maka batu tersebut akan cepat berubah menjadi banyak retakan.

Batu zamrud yang diberi treatment oil ini perlu dirawat dengan benar supaya terjaga keindahannya. Paparan sinar matahari secara terus menerus, bilasan air dan sabun dapat membuat oil yang ada di dalam batu zamrud keluar sehingga cacat pada batu akan terlihat kembali.

Menurut Indogems, ada 4 hal yang perlu dilakukan untuk menjaga kualitas batu zamrud treatment CE agar terlihat tetap indah. Keempat hal tersebut yaitu :

  • Jangan memakai batu zamrud ketika mencuci, terutama mencuci baju yang membuat batu zamrud yang kita pakai ikut terendam cairan deterjen.
  • Jangan terkena sinar matahari terik secara terus menerus, karena akan membuat oil di dalam batu menguap.
  • Simpan batu ditempat yang lembab dan memiliki kelembapan tinggi
  • Olesi batu zamrud anda dengan baby oil setiap 2 minggu sekali untuk menjaga jumlah oil di dalam batu zamrud yang anda miliki.
