Wilson Ruffin Abbott (c. 1801 - 1876) adalah seorang warga kulit hitam Kanada kelahiran Amerika yang merupakan seorang pengusaha dan pemilik tanah yang sukses di Toronto, Ontario. Ia adalah ayah dari Anderson Ruffin Abbott, dokter kulit hitam pertama di Kanada.

Biografi

Lahir dari seorang ayah berdarah Skotlandia-Irlandia dan ibu berdarah Afrika Barat di Richmond, Virginia, Wilson Ruffin Abbott meninggalkan rumah saat berusia 15 tahun untuk bekerja sebagai pelayan di kapal uap Sungai Mississippi[1]

Ia menikah dengan Ellen Toyer, dan pindah ke Akron, Ohio, di mana ia membuka sebuah toko kelontong umum, tetapi pergi pada tahun 1834 setelah menerima peringatan bahwa tokonya akan dijarah.[1] Pada akhir tahun 1835 atau awal tahun 1836, ia pindah ke Toronto, Upper Canada, di mana ia menjadi kaya raya sebagai seorang pebisnis.[1] Ia bertugas di milisi yang melindungi Toronto dari para pemberontak pada Pemberontakan Kanada Hulu tahun 1837 dan terpilih menjadi anggota dewan kota Toronto pada tahun 1840.[2]
