Walik dada-putih ( Ptilinopus rivoli ) adalah spesies burung dalam keluarga Columbidae .

Sebaran

Spesies ini dapat ditemukan di Kepulauan Maluku, Papua dan Kepulauan Bismarck . Ia juga terdapat di banyak pulau yang berbatasan dengan New Guinea. Antara lain terjadi di Kepulauan Maluku, Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru .

Pulau-pulau yang relatif banyak dihuni oleh burung ini antara lain Buru, Seram, dan Karkar .[2]

Habitat

Habitat alaminya adalah hutan dataran rendah lembab subtropis atau tropis dan hutan pegunungan lembab subtropis atau tropis. Ia hidup terutama di hutan pegunungan primer, namun juga mendiami hutan sekunder dengan kepadatan lebih rendah.

Di Papua biasanya ditemukan di ketinggian antara 1.000 dan 3.260 meter di atas permukaan laut. Namun di pulau-pulau kecil seperti Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru juga dapat ditemukan di dataran rendah. Ini adalah spesies yang lebih menyukai kanopi pohon.

Keterangan

Ptilinopus rivoli dapat mencapai panjang tubuh 23,5 hingga 26 sentimeter.[3] Ia lebih kecil daripada merpati kerah Afrika, tetapi lebih dempak daripada merpati ini. Ekornya lebih pendek dan bulat. Pada spesies ini jenis kelaminnya dimorfik . Laki-laki memiliki penutup kepala berwarna ungu yang mencolok. Betina hampir seluruhnya berbulu hijau. Bulunya didominasi warna hijau tua. Terdapat pita putih besar berbentuk bulan sabit di bagian dada. Tergantung pada subspesiesnya, pita ini mungkin juga memiliki semburat kekuningan. Warna perut dan bagian bawah ekor juga berbeda-beda tergantung subspesiesnya. Terdapat bercak memanjang dan sempit berwarna ungu di bagian perut. Bulu ekornya berwarna kuning cerah. Namun pada beberapa subspesies, perutnya juga berwarna kuning murni dan bulu ekornya berwarna hijau. Paruhnya berwarna kuning cerah.

Biologi

Ptilinopus rivoli merupakan spesies pemakan buah yang memetik buah dari dahan, namun jarang di tanah. Sarangnya dibuat dari ranting. Bertelurnya terdiri dari dua butir telur, yang tidak lazim pada merpati buah asli Papua.[2]
