Wabah SARS 2002–2004 yang terjadi akibat penyakit sindrom pernafasan akut berat (SARS) berasal dari Shunde, Foshan, Provinsi Guangdong, Republik Rakyat Tiongkok pada November 2002. Lebih dari 8.000 orang terinfeksi, dan setidaknya 774 meninggal di seluruh dunia.[1]

Pada Mei 2005, Jim Yardley dari The New York Times menulis:

"Tidak satu pun kasus sindrom pernapasan akut berat telah dilaporkan tahun ini [2005] atau pada akhir 2004. Ini adalah musim dingin pertama tanpa kasus sejak wabah awal pada akhir 2002. Selain itu, jenis epidemi SARS yang menyebabkan setidaknya 774 kematian di seluruh dunia pada Juni 2003 belum terlihat di luar laboratorium sejak itu."[5]
